Injection devices

A one-shot throwaway injection device has a barrel that houses a syringe initially in a retracted state held back by a trigger against a drive spring. Actuation of the trigger causes the syringe to be thrust forwards by the spring acting on its plunger until the needle is fully projecting, and then the dose is ejected by the final expansion of the spring. Release of the trigger allows a return spring to urge the syringe back and retract the needle. The barrel is a unitary plastics moulding of two longitudinally split halves hinged together with the trigger integrally formed with one of these halves. The other components and the syringe are positioned in one half which is then closed up and fastened to the other half to complete the barrel.

Charge pump circuits having circuit components such as transistors which may be damaged by voltage transients greater than the normal operating voltage levels of the charge pump circuit, such as may be experienced during powering down. The circuit components to be protected are connected in parallel with a leakage element arranged to have a leakage current that is small enough during normal operation to allow the charge pump to operate effectively but which is large enough, during development of a voltage transient, to prevent excess voltage levels being achieved. The leakage element may have a significant leakage current at a voltage less than the breakdown voltage of the circuit component. Suitable leakage elements are poly diodes.

Method and system for latency-independent peripheral device identification

Method and system for latency-independent peripheral device identification. In one embodiment, a computer system receives an interrupt from a peripheral device coupled to a computer system communications port. In response, an interrupt notification message is posted alerting a notification handler running on the system. It is determined whether the interrupt is indicates peripheral class compliance. In one embodiment, communications port device sense pin voltage is determinative. If the interrupt indicates peripheral class compliance and the communications port is inactive, the port is opened, and inquiry sent to the peripheral device via the open port. The computer system then waits for response from the peripheral device. If response is received within a predetermined time, identification is posted based on the response, including peripheral device classification information, so that a software handler registered with the operating system can handle the identification message when received. Thus, this embodiment imposes no time-critical interrupt response.
