Marine lantern controlled by GPS signals

A remotely adjustable lighting device configured to an operational mode customized for the geographic location of the device. The lighting device is powered by a battery provided with solar charging. The lighting device, under control of an integral controller, is turned off and on for an illumination period as a function of both local sunrise and sunset times determined by a combination of time and date information and GPS positioning. The luminosity of the lighting device is autonomously controlled as a function of battery charge and the determined required illumination period. The solar charging system is oriented by the controller to optimize its energy collection by periodical adjustments.

Guide device for production risers for petroleum production with a "dry tree semisubmersible" at large sea depths

A system for use in petroleum production at sea includes a guide frame for one or more riser pipes, on a semisubmersible production vessel. One or more main buoyancy member are arranged separately on at least one riser to carry the main part of the riser's weight. Each riser separately carries a Christmas tree on its top, near a main deck of the vessel. The guide frame comprises vertical main elements extending vertically downwards from the deck, through the splash zone and through the upper, more wave- and current-influenced zone of the sea. The guide frame also includes horizontal guide plates comprising vertically open cells formed of a horizontally arranged framework of beams. Lateral stabilization devices guide the risers' and the main buoyancy members' vertical movement relative to the vessel and restrict horizontal movement of the risers with respect to the guide frame. The guide plates are arranged in at least two levels on the guide frame. A lower guide plate is arranged at the lower ends of the vertical main elements', and a guide plate is arranged just below or near the splash zone. At least one main buoyancy member is held on the riser in level with, and guided by, lateral stabilization devices arranged in one or more guide plates below the upper, more wave- and current-influenced zone near the sea surface. The risers are without buoyancy elements through the splash zone, and thus are less exposed to the water forces in the upper zone of the sea.

The alignment guide extends away from the exterior surface and includes a hole therethrough in alignment with the recesses. The mating element is matable with a second, substantially identical mating element by the well of each mating element receiving the alignment guide of the other element. The channel formed by the cooperation of the recesses and holes of both mating elements is sized to contain a light source.

Method and apparatus for dynamically controlled buoyancy of towed arrays

The present invention relates generally a method and apparatus for adjusting the buoyancy of towed seismic arrays comprising a plurality of streamers and specifically to the dynamic buoyancy control of the buoyancy of a towed array of streamers by means of applying current to electroactive polymers (EAP) incorporated within the towed array of seismic streamers. The bulk density of the streamer array is electrically altered to accomplish neutral buoyancy for a towed array of streamers within the full range of water-densities from fresh to extremely dense seawater.

Drilling riser buoyancy modules

Buoyancy modules for subsea riser pipes are made of syntactic foam solid cores covered with tough high density polyethylene shells. Inner surfaces have partial semi-cylindrical surfaces to fit the riser pipes. Internal radial grooves hold flexible contact pads. Recesses in the inner surfaces hold auxiliary lines. Flat surfaces between the inner and outer semi-cylindrical surfaces have complementary longitudinally extending semi-cylindrical grooves to position choke and kill lines. Grooves in the outer semi-cylindrical surfaces hold composite fiber tensioning straps directly outward from the flexible contact pads. Flat areas of the grooves hold tensioning hardware. Tensioning the straps grips the riser pipe with the pads and grips the choke and kill lines in the semi-circular grooves. Cavities in the ends allow the buoyancy module halves to be assembled on the riser pipe around clamps which hold the accompanying lines.

Self-powered illumination device

A self-powered illumination device includes an illumination source protruding from its lower surface for projecting light into a body of water to provide light that is emitted preferentially outwardly to illuminate the sides of a pool. Light emitted with an upward angle of inclination strikes the underside surface of the water-air interface surrounding the device and is reflected outwardly and laterally away the from the light source after striking such underside surface. Preferably, the illumination source has a length that extends downwardly that is commensurate or greater than its width and may be in the form of a fluorescent tube. The illumination device is fully self righting when inverted on the surface of a body of water.

Payment V.I.P. card

This invention relates to a universal financial product and enables to use it for managing money resources, e.g., sums being on a personal account. The housing of the pay card may be made of a precious or rare metal, bone, finewood; the elements of the features of a pay system and an issuing bank as well as those of protection and personalization are also made of the said materials, including precious stones, by engraving and inlaying. A place is provided for a standard electronic chip, which may be replaced. Periods of use of the pay card and the reliability of its level of protection against imitating and counterfeiting are increased.

Modular vertical floating pipe

Modular vertical floating pipe comprising a plurality of modules, each module formed by (a) two pipe segments of slightly different diameter, the lower segment with the smaller diameter segment joined by a collar with the upper pipe segment and (b) an annular floater of such dimensions that could slide up only in the lower vertical segment. A longer pipe would be formed by inserting one module on top of another, and repeating the operation until all modules have been utilized. The additional weight of a new module will be pushing the section of the pipe already formed down. The difference in diameter between the upper and lower segments will allow the pipe to bend with undersea currents. Appropriate seals will dampen the bending movements and cabling supporting a weight attached to cabling guides will prevent disengagement of the modules. By tying the cable to the top floater, the long pipe could be lowered and disconnected from the platform, allowing the platform and the pipe to ride a threatening storm independently.
