Fishing chest

The invention is a fishing cooler that has wheels and a handle. The fishing cooler also features a plurality of cup holders, an externally removable and attachable rod holder, and a tackle box that can be attached either internally or externally. The fishing cooler has two internal compartments. The first compartment is for storing bait, and is smaller than the second compartment, which is for storing caught fish. Water can pass between each compartment, and a drain plug enables evacuation of all water inside of the cooler. Integrated on top of the cooler is a measuring line for such uses as measuring caught fish. The handle is hingedly connected at one side of the cooler, and extends when in use to enable the end user to pull the cooler behind he or she. The cooler may also include a drain cup and aerator that can be attached to either of the two drain plug holes. A portable light may be attached to the cooler.

Multi-function electronic fishing float

A multi-function electronic fishing float having an identification number automatically generates radio frequency (RF) signals, if a fish takes bait or is hooked. The generated RF signal is sent to a receiver, and an angler can clearly identify a sign of a fish's bite or hooking through sound, vibration, or light generated by the receiver, without checking the float with eyes.A transmitter sending RF signals corresponding to the fish's bite or hooking is installed in the electronic fishing float that partially comes up above the water surface by buoyancy, and the transmitted RF signals are received by the receiver outputting sound, vibration, and light as information on the fish's bite or hooking.

Light emitting fishing lure

A light emitting fishing lure has a hollow body encompassing a multiple emission color light source and / or an ultraviolet LED light source. A light pipe is provided to transmit emission from the internal light source to the exterior of the lure. A regularly changing color emission is found to be attractive to fish during at least part of the color change cycle. Ultraviolet light emission operates to charge a phosphor decorating the lure body after ultraviolet light emission has ceased.

Light-emitting fishing lure

PCT No. PCT / JP98 / 00159 Sec. 371 Date Jul. 2, 1998 Sec. 102(e) Date Jul. 2, 1998 PCT Filed Jan. 16, 1998 PCT Pub. No. WO98 / 31218 PCT Pub. Date Jul. 23, 1998It is an object of the present invention to provide a lure (A) which does not require batteries to be changed, and a lure (B) wherein the changing of batteries has been simplified. Lure (A) is structured in such a manner that a solar battery (10) housed within a fish-shaped case (1) serves to charge a secondary battery (11), thus rendering it unnecessary to change batteries. Meanwhile, lure (B) is structured in such a manner that a lid unit (23) holding a battery (24) and a light-emitting body (25) can be inserted into and released from an aperture within a fish-shaped case (21), it being possible to remove the battery (24) when the lid unit (23) is released, thus permitting the easy changing of batteries without the need for exaggerated action and without any risk of injuring the fingers on hooks (5). These lures are structured such as to have an illuminated band stretching from either side of the head, which is shaped in imitation of a fish, towards the underside, and thus facilitate improved efficacy in luring fish by means of a light-emitting lure.

Input means (37) are provided for inputting: (i) geographical positioning data indicating the geographical position of a point for fishing in substantially real-time relative to a region: (ii) weather data indicating the prevailing weather conditions applying to the geographical position of the point in the region; (iii) fish data characterising the fish located at or obtained at the point; (iv) time data specifying the date, time or season corresponding to the real-time at the point; and (v) water condition data of the prevailing environment at the point. A database (60) is provided for storing the data input by the input means (35) relative to the geographical position of the point and linking the data to any previous data stored for the particular geographical position of the point. A graphical user interface accesses the linked data of the database and outputs it in an appropriate medium, usually a display that presents an image pane (141), for interpreting by a user of the system. The system is particularly suited to lobster or prawn fishing in the ocean and can be used to predict where to fish. A method for fishing based on the system is also described.

Twist closure drop fishing net

An automatically closing drop fishing net is provided for commercial fishing operations. The drop net assembly includes an upper float ring, a lower weight ring, and a net formed in a generally tubular configuration. The upper end of the net is attached to the float ring and the lower end of the net is attached to the weight ring. The drop net assembly has several torque lines that extend from locations on the float ring on the outside of the net to locations on the weight ring that are initially angularly offset at least one hundred eighty degrees relative to their points of attachment to the float ring. The torque lines are shorter than the vertical length that the net would assume in a stretched condition with the float ring buoyed upon the surface of a body of sea water and with the weight ring suspended therebeneath and held only by the structure of the net. As gravity pulls the weight ring downwardly from the float ring in the water, tension is exerted on the torque lines. This tension causes the weight ring to rotate relative to the float ring above it. The twisting of the weight ring also twists the net, thereby closing the lower portion of the net and changing its shape from a generally cylindrical configuration to a configuration of an upper inverted cone and a lower, upright cone. Fish are entrapped within the upper, inverted conical portion of the drop net assembly once it has been deployed.

Methods and systems for determining fish catches

The present disclosure is directed towards determining, at sea, the respective weights of fish species that are part of a fish catch. By way of the present disclosure, images of a fish catch are taken using triangulation techniques involving stereo-photogrammetry. According to one embodiment, a method for estimating a total weight of a fish catch includes receiving a fish catch on a fishing vessel and capturing images of the fish catch. From the images, fishes are identified and the species to which the corresponding fishes belong are also identified. Using the images, lengths of the identified fishes as well as the total volume occupied by the fish catch are determined, which can be used to estimate the total weight of the fish catch.
