Optical layer survivability and security system using optical label switching and high-speed optical header generation and detection

An optical signaling header technique applicable to optical networks wherein packet routing information is embedded in the same channel or wavelength as the data payload so that both the header and data payload propagate through network elements with the same path and the associated delays. The technique effects survivability and security of the optical networks by encompassing conventional electronic security with an optical security layer by generating replicated versions of the input data payload at the input node, and the transmission of each of the replicated versions over a corresponding one of the plurality of links. Moreover, each of the links is composed of multiple wavelengths to propagate optical signals or optical packets, and each of the replicated versions of the data payload may be propagated over a selected one of the wavelengths in each corresponding one of the plurality of links.

Post patch assembly for mounting devices in a tire interior

A modular electronic assembly for integration with a pneumatic tire includes a mounting patch, a power source, and at least one electronic device supported by a substrate. The mounting patch is preferably adapted for positioning on the inner liner of a pneumatic tire, and the power source is at least partially embedded in the mounting patch. Such embedded positioning of the battery results in an overall structure with a lower center of gravity than previous tire electronics assemblies, thus having increased mechanical stability and survivability in a tire environment. Electronic device(s) supported on the substrate may receive power from the power source, which in some embodiments corresponds to one or more batteries. The substrate supporting the at least one electronic device may be attached to the mounting patch by a variety of fashions. Exemplary attachment configurations may correspond to an adhesive layer, a hook and loop tape combination, or physical interconnection via terminals extending from the power source through the support substrate. Exemplary electronic devices may include such components as condition-responsive devices including transducers, acoustic devices, sensors, etc. for sensing certain environmental conditions such as temperature and / or pressure, tire revolution counters, vehicle speed sensors, sidewall deflection sensors, tire displacement sensors, microprocessors, memory modules, RFID transponders, light assemblies, data transmitters and / or receivers, and power, supply components. Selected of the electronic devices (including one or more antennas associated with any RF devices) may be encapsulated by a non-conductive rubber or elastic material to facilitate effective transmission characteristics. Conductive springs, flexible conductive elastomer or fatigue-resistance metal may be used to interconnect various electronic components (such as an RF device to an antenna).

Implantable biosensor

The invention consists of a sensor with multiple indicating (sensing) electrodes covered with a selectively permeable membrane for monitoring fluid concentrations in a biological environment. The indicating electrodes respond to changes in certain analytes, such as glucose, through an enzyme-mediated reaction. The currents generated from the enzyme-mediated reactions are transmitted through radio signals to an external receiver where the information is processed and recorded. Through the use of various biomaterials and biochemicals associated with the sensor, the monitoring accuracy is improved and the overall viability is prolonged. The process of foreign body fibrosis (formation of a scar capsule around the implanted sensor) eventually limits the functional life of the device. We teach methods of delivery of certain biochemicals that can increase the functional life of the sensor by inhibiting the formation of the foreign body capsule or by stimulating the growth of capillaries into the capsule.

Methods and devices for monitoring the distance between members of a group

Emergency workers and other personnel are often endangered by losing contact with other personnel, for example, firefighters working in hostile conditions. Methods and devices for improving the survivability and reducing the potential for injury or death of emergency personnel and others are provided. The methods and devices monitor the distance of members of a group to, among other things, minimize or prevent personnel from being separated from the group. Devices worn by members of a group monitor the distance between members by monitoring the characteristics of wireless communication, for example, signal strength, between members. If the distance between members exceeds or is less than a predetermined distance, an alarm is sounded to alert members to the potential for contact between members or loss of a member of the group. Though aspects of the invention may be used by emergency workers, such as firefighters and policemen, other aspects of the invention may be used to monitor objects or children, among others.

Computer-implemented method and apparatus for audio data hiding

A computer-implemented method and apparatus for embedding hidden data in an audio signal. An audio signal is received in a base domain and then transformed into a non-base domain, such as cepstrum domain or LP residue domain. The statistical mean manipulation is employed on selected transform coefficients to embed hidden data. The introduced distortion is controlled by psychoacoustic model to ensure the imperceptibility of the embedded hidden data. Scrambling techniques can be plugged in to further increase the security of the data hiding system. The present new audio data hiding scheme provides transparent audio quality, sufficient embedding capacity, and high survivability over a wide range of common signal processing attacks.

Optical transmission system with two-mode ring protection mechanism for prioritized client signals

An optical transmission system that offers more efficient bandwidth usage in normal operation, as well as enhanced fault tolerance for higher service availability. A transponder converts high-priority and low-priority client signals into high-priority and low-priority wavelength signals to be added to network traffic. An optical switch fabric normally delivers high-priority and low-priority wavelength signals to high-priority and low-priority paths, respectively, where the two paths run in opposite directions. Such signals and paths are prioritized in terms of survivability against network failure. In case of a network failure, the optical switch fabric performs protection switching in either duplicate switching mode or path switchover mode depending on network failure information and drop wavelengths of each optical transmission device. In duplicate switching mode, high-priority wavelength signals are directed to both the high-priority and low-priority paths. In path switchover mode, they are routed to the low-priority path, instead of the high-priority path.

Segment protection scheme for a network

This invention broadly comprises a novel segment protection scheme (survivability framework) for a network, which we refer to as PROMISE (Protection using MultIple SEgments). It combines the best of existing link and path protection schemes (e.g., bandwidth efficiency and fast recovery). The PROMISE approach divides an active path or AP (along which a survivable connection is established) into several, possibly overlapping active segments or ASs, and then protects each AS with a detour called backup segment or BS (instead of protecting the AP as a whole as in path protection schemes). This facilitates the bandwidth sharing not only among the BSs for different APs, but also among those for the same AP. In addition, recovery time can be shortened due to the limited length of each AS and BS. This technology can be applied to MPLS, ATM, SONET, WDM and other high-speed link layers under the evolving G-MPLS framework.
