Power management of transponders and sensors in an RFID security network

An RFID transponder with an associated sensor used in a security network including at least one RFID reader that transmits signals at a first frequency. The transponder has a processor controlling its other components. Transmitter circuitry coupled to a transmit antenna transmits signals to the reader at a second frequency. A receive antenna receives signals in a frequency band that includes the first frequency. One or more RF diodes obtain the signal from the receive antenna and output a power envelope signal representing the power level of the signal obtained from the receive antenna. An amplifier coupled to the output of the RF diode amplifies the power envelope signal received from the RF diode. The processor receives the amplified power envelope signal and decodes any data that have been encoded using an on-off keyed modulation scheme applied to the signal obtained from the receive antenna.

The methods also involve combining the FPCPES with the FSS to generate a first product signal (FPS) and combining the SPCPES with the SSS to generate a second product signal (SPS). A constant power envelope signal is generated using the FPS and SPS.

Method for improving tx gain in envelope tracking systems

A method and system enhances the gain of a propagation path of a radio frequency (RF) signal while utilizing an envelope tracking (ET) mechanism to provide power to a power amplifier within the propagation path. An envelope tracking (ET) controller detects using the ET mechanism an RF envelope of the RF signal being propagated towards the power amplifier. The ET controller applies envelope pre-distortion to the RF signal. The ET controller initiates a function for shaping the supply voltage of the power amplifier by selecting a shaping table that can provide a specific level of increasing amplifier gain at higher signal drive level. The ET controller shapes the supply voltage for the power amplifier by adjusting values corresponding to the detected RF envelope. As a result, RF signals are propagated from the transceiver to the power amplifier output port across high and low transceiver drive levels with net constant gain.

Double-talk detection

Within audio telecommunications for audio-visual conferencing a means of reliable double-talk detection is required for several reasons, including control of residual echo, and control of adaptive algorithms used to estimate the echo. Existing techniques tend to either fail when echo return loss is very low or require highly complex algorithms to increase the range of detecting whether double-talk is occurring. The invention is based upon a new method of estimating the power envelope of the double-talk signal. This estimation is then employed in conjunction with a slightly modified version of an echo return loss enhancement (ERLE) based statistic, to form a double-talk decision based on a combination of the two statistics. The resulting decision rule works for both low-ERLE and high-ERLE situations, which is useful when there can be large variations in the magnitude of the echo path seen by the algorithms, or where near-end noise prevents the achievement of high ERLE.

Low loss optical fiber designs and methods for their manufacture

The specification describes an improved optical fiber produced by a hybrid VAD / MCVD process. The core of the fiber is produced using VAD and the inner cladding layer has a depressed index and is produced using MCVD. In preferred embodiments, the optical power envelope is essentially entirely contained in VAD produced core material and the MCVD produced depressed index cladding material. Optical loss is minimized by confining most of the optical power to the VAD core where OH presence is low, as well as by maximizing the optical power in the un-doped silica region. The MCVD substrate tube material is essentially devoid of optical power.

The method comprises determining a current and a future traffic load on a downlink channel over a plurality of communication periods and adjusting a transmit power of the transmission from the communication node across at least two communication periods of the plurality of communication periods based on the current and future traffic loads. Base station software including a power step limiting algorithm and a scheduler may ramp the transmitted power from a transmitter slowly over several frames as data transmission increases and / or decreases with time at a base station. By smoothing out a transmitted power envelope a carrier may operate at a maximum data and power level during a busy time period. In this manner, an increase may be avoided in a saturated power of a power amplifier and the effects of an increased peak-to average power ratio on a power step limiting algorithm and a pre-distortion unit may be reduced.

Systems and methods for wireless power transfer in multipath vehicle environments

Systems and methods for leveraging multipath wireless transmissions for high data rate communication and charging devices within multipath vehicle environments are described. The techniques include deploying a wireless charger, including an array of antennas, within a vehicle interior. The wireless charger may detect an incoming signal from a client device (1120). Each antenna in the array may determine an offset for the received signal (1130), which is then used to tune parameters for each antenna individually (1140). Upon transmission, the resulting signal is directionally biased toward theleast lossy pathways between the device and the charger (1170). These pathways avoid passengers and other sources of signal attenuation. Thus, for a given total power envelope, a greater total signalamplitude may be delivered to the device, with reduced exposure to any occupants of the vehicle. Additionally, the interior of the vehicle may be provisioned (910a, 910b, 910c) to help improve multipath focusing of transmissions.
