Parity check matrix storing method, block LDPC coding method, and apparatus using parity check matrix storing method

The present invention relates to a low density parity check (LDPC) encoding method and an apparatus thereof. In the LDPC encoding method, a matrix multiplication corresponding to ET−1 and T−1 is eliminated according to a structural characteristic in an encoding process. Accordingly, shift weights that are not −1 among shift weights corresponding to partial blocks A, B, and C of a parity check matrix are used to perform an encoding operation, and a cyclic shift operation of an information unit block is performed in parallel so that a first parity block and a second parity block may be simultaneously generated.

Video encoding and decoding methods and corresponding devices

The invention relates to the field of video compression and, more specifically, to a video encoding method applied to an input sequence of frames in which each frame is subdivided into blocks of arbitrary size. This method comprises, for at least a part of the blocks of the current frame, the steps of: generating on a block basis motion-compensated frames obtained from each current original frame and a previous reconstructed frame; generating the said motion-compensated frames residual signals; using a matching pursuit algorithm for decomposing each of the generated residual signals into coded dictionary functions called atoms, the other blocks of the current frame being processed by means of other coding techniques; coding said atoms and the motion vectors determined during the motion compensation step, for generating an output coded bitstream; said method being such that any atom acts only on one block B at a time, said block-restriction leading to the fact that the reconstruction of a residual signal f is obtained from a dictionary that is composed of basis functions gγnæBrestricted to the block B corresponding to the indexing parameter γn, according to the following 2D spatial domain operation: gγnæB(i,j)=gγn(i,j) if pixel (i,j)εB; gγnæB(i,j)=0 otherwise (i.e. (i,j)∉B).

Partial block erase architecture for flash memory

The invention provides a method and system for increasing the lifespan of a flash memory device by selectively erasing sub-blocks of a memory block. Each physical memory block of the flash memory device is dividable into at least two logical sub-blocks, where each of the at least two logical sub-blocks is erasable. Therefore, only the data of the logical sub-block is erased and reprogrammed whileunmodified data in the other logical sub-block avoids unnecessary program / erase cycles. The logical sub-blocks to be erased are dynamically configurable in size and location within the block. A wear leveling algorithm is used for distributing data throughout the physical and logical sub-blocks of the memory array to maximize the lifespan of the physical blocks during programming and data modification operations.

Partial block allocation for file system block compression using virtual block metadata

A file server has a data compression facility and also a snapshot copy facility or a data de-duplication facility that shares data blocks among files. Compression of the file data on a file system block basis leads to a problem of partially used file system data blocks when the data blocks are shared among files. This problem is solved by partial block allocation so that file system data blocks are shared among files that do not share identical data. Block pointers in the file mapping metadata point to virtual blocks representing the compressed data blocks, and associated virtual block metadata identifies portions of file system data blocks that store the compressed data. For example, a portion of a file system data block is identified by a sector bitmap, and the virtual block metadata also includes a reference count to indicate sharing of a compressed data block among files.

Partial Block Erase For Block Programming In Non-Volatile Memory

A non-volatile memory system utilizes partial block erasing during program operations to mitigate the effects of programming pass voltage disturbances. A programming request is received that is associated with a group of word lines from a block, such as all or a portion of the word lines. The system erases and soft programs the block prior to beginning programming. The system programs a subset of the word lines of the block for the programming request. After programming the subset of word lines, the system pauses the programming operation and performs an erase operation for the unprogrammed word lines of the block. The already programmed word lines and one or more optional buffer word lines may be inhibited from erasing during the erase operation. After erasing the unprogrammed word lines, the system completes the programming request by programming the remaining user data in the unprogrammed region of the block.

System and method for adaptively loading input data into a multi-dimensional clustering table

A system and associated method load an input data stream into a multi-dimensional clustering (MDC) table or other structure containing data clustered along one or more dimensions, by assembling blocks of data in a partial block cache in which each partial block is associated with a distinct logical cell. A minimum threshold number of partial blocks may be maintained. Partial blocks may be spilled from the partial block cache to make room for new logical cells.
