An improved system and method of fairly and securely enabling timed-constrained competitions over the Internet among millions of competitors while compensating for the variable network communication latencies experienced by client machines used by the competitors. The system employs globally time-synchronized Internet information servers and client machines in order to synchronize the initial display of each invitation to respond (e.g. stock price to buy or sell, query to answer, or problem to solve) on a client machine so each competitor can respond to the invitation at substantially the same time, regardless of his or her location on the planet, or the type of Internet-connection used by his or her client machine. Also, by using globally time-synchronized client machines, each competitor's response is securely time and space stamped at the client machine to ensure that competitor responses are resolved within microsecond accuracy.

System and method for identifying individual users accessing a web site

An improved method and system for identifying individual users accessing a web site. A web site server is able to identify distinct users by using a unique identifier associated with each client computer system requesting access to the web site. The unique identifier comprises an Internet address, such as an Internet Protocol (IP) address, and a time value associated with each client computer system requesting access to the web site. On starting up a web browser, an application program or browser plug-in may synchronize the internal clock included with the client computer system with a global time standard. The synchronized time value may be based on an event associated with the client computer system, such as the start of a web browser. A web site server may determine the uniqueness of the client computer system by comparing unique identifier records of users accessing the web site. A user may be identified as distinct if no matching record exists in the database. Multiple client computer systems having a common Internet address may be identified by using this method. Users privacy is also protected as the unique identifiers are erased when the client computer system's user exits the web browser or powers down the computer.

Data Sensor Coordination Using Time Synchronization in a Multi-Bus Controller Area Network System

A method is provided for synchronizing time in an unsynchronized vehicle controller area network system. A master control unit receives a global time from a time synchronization source. The master control unit estimates a respective time delay in transmitting messages by electronic control units on each controller area network bus. The time delay is a difference between a time when a message is generated by a respective electronic control unit for transmission on a respective controller area network bus and a time when the message is transmitted on the respective controller area network bus. The global time is adjusted for each respective controller area network bus based on the estimated time delays associated with each respective controller area network bus. Global time messages from the master control unit are transmitted to each electronic control unit that include the adjusted global times for an associated controller area network bus.

Techniques to manage a flow cache

Techniques are described herein that may be used to invalidate all entries in a table. For example, the table may be a flow cache. For example, an expiry time may be associated with one or more entries in the table. The expiry time of an entry may be initially set to the sum of the system time, the expiry time of the protocol associated with the entry, and a global time variable. To check if the entry is expired at any time, the current system time may be added to the global time variable and if the result is greater than the expiry time in the entry, then the entry is expired. To invalidate all the entries, the global time variable may be incremented by a large amount which may equal the maximum expiry time of all protocols. This may cause all entries to expire. New entries may be added using the new incremented value of the global time variable and will hence not expire.

A global time reckoning system simultaneously indicates local time and global time. The global time reckoning system can be practiced with standard clock timer drivers, including electromechanical and digital clock motors, in combination with a novel global time system clock face to allow a user to reckon time locally or anywhere on the globe without time zone conversion calculations. The global time system clock face has multiple time scales, at least one of which is driven by the clock drive in cooperation with an hour indicator (e.g., an hour hand). The global time system clock face simultaneously displays global time (relative to any location on the globe) and local time. Additionally, the global time reckoning system, with the appropriate clock timer driver is adaptable to indicate a number of other global time related information, including sunrise / sunset, days of the week, lunar phase and solstices / equinoxes.

Maintaining a global time reference among a group of networked devices

Synchronization is maintained among a plurality of network devices having local clocks that participate in a network. A first packet is broadcast from a first network device to other network devices that participate in the network. The first packet includes a global time reference derived from the local clock of the first network device. The clocks of the network devices that receive the first packet are adjusted to be closer to the local clock of the first network device. A first network local time reference and a second network local time reference may be maintained for a device that participates in a first network and a second network. A free running clock is maintained on the device. The difference between the free running clock and a first network global time reference is determined. A first network offset is calculated to account for the difference between the free running clock and the first network global time reference. The difference between the free running clock and a second network global time reference is determined. A second network offset is calculated to account for the difference between the free running clock and the second network global time reference.

High efficient and real-time analytical method of vehicle fake license suspicion and apparatus thereof

The invention, which relates to the intelligent traffic industry, discloses a high efficient and real-time analytical method of vehicle fake license suspicion and an apparatus thereof. According to the invention, all data for fake license analyses are stored in a memory; it is maintained that each vehicle is corresponded to only one record during the processing process and the total amount of the data is controlled; and it is determined whether a vehicle a fake licensed one by calculating whether a time difference of the same vehicle between two checkposts is less than a time threshold between the two checkposts, so that it can be rapidly and accurately determined whether there is fake license suspicion. Because distance between checkposts are various and the speed limits are different, time for driving a distance between each two checkposts is different from others; therefore, the shortest time for passing through the two checkposts can be determined by calculating a time threshold between the two checkposts; and the determination result is more reasonable than an arranged unified global time threshold. Moreover, a memory analytical mode is used to replace a traditional Oracle database query analytical mode; therefore, efficiency is high and operability is strong; and an operation burden of the Oracle database is reduced.

Method and apparatus for identifying and disabling worms in communication networks

A method and apparatus for enabling a network security service and network security infrastructure to detect, identify, mitigate, neutralize, and disable worms through distributed worm probes that can be linked to centralized monitoring systems for emergency response process is disclosed. The worm probes track packets with destination unreachable errors on a per source IP address basis. In one embodiment, when the number of such errors exceeds a predefined local threshold, e.g., within a predefined local time period at a worm probe, the count of such errors as well as the source IP address will be sent to all other worm probes in the network as an alert. When the number of such errors exceeds a predefined global threshold, e.g., within a predefined global time period, traffic from the endpoint device with the identified source IP address will be blocked to prevent that endpoint device from spreading worms further.
