The mask forms a sealed cover over the nose and mouth, but may also cover the eyes and other vulnerable soft tissues of the face. Most gas masks are also respirators, though the word gas mask is often used to refer to military equipment (e.g. field protective mask). The user of the gas mask is not protected from gas that the skin can absorb. Most gas mask filters will last around 24 hours in a nuclear biological chemical (NBC) situation.

A family protective shelter which can be erected quickly inside in a home living room, family room, patio, or on an outside lawn area. This dome tent enclosure is designed of clear plastic sheet material which is impervious to gases used to conduct chemical warfare (such as nerve gas, mustard gas, serin, cyanide, and the like) dispersed biohazard aerosol compounds (such as anthrax, smallpox, polio, bacteria, viruses, or fungi), or other atmospheric toxins, such as those from a nuclear fallout. A pneumatic sealing system for a gas mask, which seals the mask to the face of the user by using a pump that employs air from inside the gas mask to variably inflate a mask seal during the breathing cycle. A double diaphragm pump, which has a driving diaphragm and a driven diaphragm, is connected to the inflatable mask seal via a hose duct. The double diaphragm pump is driven by the pressure difference inside the gas mask. During inhalation, the driving diaphragm fills with ambient air and the driven diaphragm fills with filtered air. During exhalation, the driving diaphragm and the driven diaphragm compress, releasing and trapping air in the mask seal.

Drink fluid is drawn from the reservoir through a drink tube to a mouthpiece. A chemical and biological protection mask that combines a filter cartridge with a miniaturized high-intensity shortwave UV disinfecting system in a compact easy-to-wear and fully portable form factor. The gas mask comprises a mask portion for covering at least the nose and mouth of a user, a one way exhalation valve mounted on the mask portion, a coupling to an inhalation opening into the mask portion, a filter canister, and a novel UV-illumination tube attachable between the inhalation valve coupling and filter canister. The UV-illumination tube further comprises an aluminum tube, a plastic insert positioned inside the aluminum tube, and a plurality of circuit boards seated within the insert. The circuit boards each have a plurality of UV LED lights axially mounted thereon to irradiate and disinfect air passing through the UV-illumination tube. The UV LED lights preferably emit light within a range of from 240 nm˜280 nm wavelength, and are powered by a battery connected to a voltage regulator. A current chopping circuit is connected between said voltage regulator and said UV LED lights for providing pulsed current thereto. An optional solar cell is disclosed for powering the UV LED lights directly or for recharging the battery, and the solar cell may be mounted atop a visor attached to said mask.

The ear pieces fit over the ears, and are configured to receive the strap at a point proximate the tragus portion of the ear, causing pulling forces to be on the posterior center portion of the ear rather than on the top of the ear. The ear pieces have a downwardly exterior anterior leg and a downwardly extending posterior leg. In one embodiment, the ear pieces are substantially U-shaped. In another embodiment, the ear pieces are substantially ring-shaped.

The transparent end of the conduit is coated internally with a chromogenic reagent that changes color when either the target gas or the gas produced in the reaction reaches it. The ESLI / RLI may be inserted into the filter from different directions to accommodate practical filter or mask designs. The ESLI / RLI may contain more than one chromophore to alert users of the penetration of different gases or classes of gases.

The spool is moveable between a first position and a second position, and normally biased toward the first position. When in the second position, the first outlet is in a closed position and fluid is delivered to the gas mask mouthpiece.

This invention relates to respirator, a half face mask with the shape of a concave-rectangular cup that fits the facial features comfortably. The mask covers user's mouth and nostrils to provide a breathing chamber and has three opening ports, one on the bottom receiving the filter cartridge and two of the same dimension on the sides receiving the exhalation tubes. The three components are grooved-fitting embedded into the mask and have one-way air flow functionality controlled by the mean of flapper valve mechanism. In the present invention, the periphery of the exposure hole, which is formed on the headscarf, is connected to the face mask by means of the connector so that the headscarf is securely and quickly connected to the face mask, thereby protecting the head of the wearer from toxic substances.

Method and apparatus for measurement of pressure at a device/body interface

A system and method for measuring contact pressures between two surfaces, and especially, between the body and a device resting on the body, e.g., the skin and a breathable gas mask. A deformable, resilient probe having a flow passage therein is initially placed between the two surfaces such that the flow passage is blocked. Fluid pressure within the probe is then increased until the pressure in the probe overcomes the contact pressure between the two surfaces, such that fluid begins to flow through the flow passage in the probe. The pressure at which the fluid begins to flow through the flow passage in the probe is recorded as the contact pressure between the two surfaces. Contact pressure maps created using this apparatus and method may be used to create anthropometric models of the face and other body parts.
