A fiber-reinforced composite material with graded stiffness, and method of making the same. The degree of stiffness variation may be controlled via modifications to the fabrication processes. Products with varying stiffness along their lengths are described. In one example, a dental post is fabricated from material according to the present invention which has one end with low stiffness adapted for insertion into the root of the tooth, and a high stiffness end suitable to support the restoration.

A post for a dental crown is disclosed having improved structural features—including increased post strength and reduced likelihood of root fracture. In one embodiment, the post includes a quadrangle (4-way) split shank for increased compliance and root stress reduction while providing very high mechanical grip strength and pull-out resistance. In another embodiment, a shortened threaded section and a thread-free shank tip minimize the possibility of root fracture while still providing high grip strength and pull-out resistance. Embodiments also include a radiused transition from a primary thread to a secondary thread portion of the shank for stress reduction; and axial grooves, cross-axis through holes and other shape features of the post head for increased crown retention strength.

A personalized metallic dental pile simulating mechanical properties of natural teeth comprises a pile and a core. The pile and core formed integrally; the metal dental pile comprises a compact part and a loose part; the loose part is located in the contact area of the dental pile and the residual root or residual tooth; and the elasticity modulus of the loose part is lower than that of the compact part. The manufacturing method of the metal dental pile comprises the following steps: conducting conventional repair design and tooth preparation; acquiring digital dental impression of a patient; designing a three dimensional model of the dental pile with according to the structure characteristics of the root canal and the residual tooth of the patient's; conducting adaptation of the pile and the root canal of the residual tooth, and finding out the contact area of the dental pile with the residual root or residual crown; setting the contact area as the loose part; setting the area outside of the contact part as the compact part; forming the dental pile; and trimming the dental pile to make the dental pile seal with the root canal of the patient's. The invention has the advantages of high adaptation, high flexural strength and no damage to the tooth root.

The invention relates to a dental restoration thread fiber pole which is characterized by comprising a head part, a middle section and a tail part, wherein the head part is provided with an oblique spiral groove, the tail part is a cone-shaped part, the shape and the size of the tail part are consistent with the shape and the size of a cone-shaped part of a dental drill bit, the cone-shaped part of the middle section near the tail part is provided with a groove, and a smooth straight section is arranged between the groove and the oblique spiral groove of the head part. A dental restoration thread pole core is an integer and is formed once, and physical locking force of the dental restoration thread pole core and a light-cured resin core is increased by the designed oblique spiral groove so as to increase interface strength. The dental restoration thread fiber pole reduces restoration failure caused by debonding the pole core in clinical application, but also has better transfer stress with the core, thereby avoiding the dental post break caused by stress concentration. The dental restoration thread fiber pole can be finely processed by a machine tool, has simple method, small errors and high consistency and can be produced in a large scale.

Fiber reinforced composite material for dental root canal post and preparation method thereof

The invention relates to a poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fiber reinforced composite material for a dental root canal post and a preparation method thereof. The fiber reinforced composite material for the dental root canal post comprises a surface modified PBO reinforced fiber which is used as a reinforcing phase and a nanometer modified toughening resin which is used as a matrix. The composite material is compounded by mixing the PBO reinforced fiber with the toughening resin, wherein the PBO reinforced fiber adopts a 3D braided structure. According to the invention, a breakthrough is made to the design of unidirectional reinforcement with single-phase fibers in conventional fiber post structures, the high-performance PBO fiber and the 3D braided structure are introduced into a dental post material, so the flexural behavior of a conventional fiber post is improved, and good interfacial bonding force between the high-performance fiber and the resin matrix is guaranteed; and through adoption of the 3D braided structure, layering of the laminated composite material is effectively avoided, so excellent mechanical properties of the composite material in vertical, transverse and thickness directions are guaranteed.

The integrated fiber post for dental restoration is characterized by integrating a post and a core and comprising a post and core tail part and a head core part; the conical structure of the post and core tail part is consistent with the conical structure of a dental drilling head; the head core part is in an umbrella cap structure; the lower edge of the umbrella cap structure is fully matched with the residual part of a defected tooth; the outline part of the umbrella cap structure is fully matched with a crown part; and a porcelain crown is directly sleeved on the head core part. The method for forming and machining the integrated fiber post comprises the following steps of: (1) acquiring CT (computed tomography) data of the defected tooth; (2) reconstructing the three-dimensional model of the tooth and a post and core crown through a computer; (3) building a CAD (computer-aided design) model of the integrated post and core; (4) transferring the information of the CAD model of the integrated fiber post and core into a CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) numerical control center; and (5) cutting and machining the integrated fiber post and core by a machining center of a numerical control machine. The fiber post of the invention has improved strength, reduced post and core abhesion in application, and avoidances of breakage of tooth posts and failure of restoration caused by stress concentration.
