780 results about "Grip strength" patented technology

Grip strength is the force applied by the hand to pull on or suspend from objects and is a specific part of hand strength. Optimum-sized objects permit the hand to wrap around a cylindrical shape with a diameter from one to three inches. Stair rails are an example of where shape and diameter are critical for proper grip in case of a fall. Other grip strengths that have been studied are the hammer and other hand tools. In applications of grip strength, the wrist must be in a neutral position to avoid developing cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs).

Adhesives for vehicle body manufacturing

Two-component systems are described which are suitable for underlining, adhesive bonding of the crimped fold and sealing of auto body sections, particularly for crimped fold sealing of add-on vehicle parts. The two-component systems attain the requisite grip strength for mounting the add-on parts on the body as well as the requisite strength and dimensional stability for the production process up to and with the CIP passage, within the predetermined cycle time, on the basis of cross-linking of the sealant composition twice. In one embodiment, the surface of the two-component system is pre-cross-linked by a UV-induced reaction and by the cross-linking of the two-component system to the extent of portability. In addition, two-component systems are described which cross-link intentionally only partially up to a consistency that permits a rugged course of the process through cleaning baths and which harden completely only by means of a further hardening process, for instance in the CIP forced circulation oven.

Tamper-resistant fastener and method and tool for use with same

A fastener includes a round, blind hole or pocket in its head. Installation and removal of the fastener is accomplished with a tool containing an eccentric segment on the end of a shaft. When rotated within the pocket, the eccentric segment displaces laterally relative to the shaft to provide a friction grip to the lateral wall of the pocket. The strength of the grip is proportional to the applied torque. Eccentric displacement allows rotation but prevents the tool from spinning out of the fastener thereby eliminating cam-out and surface damage resulting from contact with a spinning tool tip. The eccentric head of the tool can be made disposable and to shear off when a predetermined torque is reached. The smooth-sided round hole offers no purchase for commonly available tools; making the fastener tamper-resistance. In another embodiment, the fastener includes a raised portion in the pocket. A tool having a complementary opening shears off the raised portion at a predetermined torque.

Solar panel grounding system and clip

The present invention is a clip and related grounding device. The grounding device has a wire connected to two clips at either end. Each clip is configured to be attached to the frame of a solar panel. The device eliminates fasteners that require bolts or screw to make a sufficient electrical connection between the panel frames. Because the grounding connects frame to frame, it is not necessary to ensure that the frames have a grounding connection to the underlying solar panel mounting system. This enables use of mounting systems that do not conduct electricity. The grounding device is has sufficient gripping strength that the anchoring teeth penetrate through paint, oxidized coating, or annealed finish to create an electrical connection.

Golf club fitting system

ActiveUS7195565B2Quickly and easily learnAvoid misuseSurgerySomatoscopeEngineeringGolf Ball
An improved golf club fitting system for fitting a set of golf clubs to a player includes the steps of measuring a player's hand grip strength and selecting a representative golf club having a dead weight directly proportional to the player's grip strength. The club length and the swing weight of the representative golf club are then determined by standard testing procedures commonly used in the golf club industry. A balance index (BI) for the representative golf club is then computed by dividing the dead weight (DW) by the swing weight (SW) (DW / SW=BI) and the balance index (BI) is compared to the dead weight to determine generally corresponding values for the remaining other golf clubs in the set such that the system user can match different irons and woods to the representative golf club thereby creating an ideal matched set of golf clubs for the player.

Apparatus and method for lifting weights

InactiveUS7662073B1Possesses structural strengthPossesses durabilityMuscle exercising devicesEngineeringWeight lifting
A dynamically adjustable weight lifting aid that eliminates hand grip strength as the limiting factor in weight lifting, including a strap and a slidable sleeve encircling the strap. The strap has a wrist loop at one end and an attachment loop at the other end. The attachment loop is suitable for removably attaching the strap to a weight bar or other handle on a weight lifting system or machine. The wrist loop is suitable for receiving a person's wrist. Specifically, the person's hand is inserted through the wrist loop, and the person's palm contacts the slidable sleeve. The wrist loop cradles the person's wrist, and the effective diameter of the wrist loop is dynamically adjustable by the person's hand by sliding the slidable sleeve in either direction along the length of the strap. The person may then lift a weight of the weight lifting system by pulling on the strap.

Surgical clip and method for making same

An improved clip or clamp is provided having a one-piece wire-form construction that is suited for rapid and repeatable manufacture. The clamp, which may be disposable or reusable, includes a first jaw portion, a second jaw portion, a first handle portion, a second handle portion and a central coil or tensioning device, all of which are formed from a single piece of wire. The central coil or tensioning device comprises one or more turns. The handle portions may include ring-shaped distal ends that further enhance grip. The jaw portions may be shaped, curved, bent or otherwise configured to provide access to specific areas of a procedure. The clamp may be coated with a material providing improved traction and padding. In a method of the invention, a single wire is wound at least one turn forming the central coil and two extensions. A first extension of the wire is formed into the first jaw portion by bending back on itself, the first extension is then returned to the central coil where it is formed to rest upon an outer surface of the central coil. The bent first extension, which now extends rearward in a direction opposite to the direction of the first jaw portion, is then bent again forming the first handle portion. A second extension is similarly bent to form the second jaw portion and the second handle portion. The single-wire construction of the clamp may be achieved through programmed wire forming. In another aspect of the invention, a plurality of clamps may be placed upon a traction rod made from a metal or plastic material to align two or more stump portions of a severed vessel or tissue for reconnection or anastomosis.

Grip pressure sensor

Grip pressure is monitored by a collection of battery powered components embodied in an assembly analogous to an ordinary wrist watch, that is a watch housing or casement and a stretchable band. The system, which we shall refer to as a swing monitor, is worn on the wrist and deployed in such a way that the back of the housing or casement is cinched securely to the back or underside of the wrist. A pressure plate on the back of the watch makes contact with the pulse region of the wrist. The flexing and relaxing of the muscles and tendons of the wearer is read by an electronic pressure sensing device, a piezo sensor. A tighter grip will register greater pressure and a looser grip, less pressure. The device records grip pressure associated with the swing of a golf club, tennis racquest or baseball bat, among other articles of sports equipment meant to be swung. The grip pressure determined to be optimal, that is giving the desired result, can be SAVED in the memory of the swing monitor system. Subsequent swings and their associated grip pressures are compared with the SAVED value of the optimal or best swing. An audible signal alerts the wearer if the grip pressure departs from that registered on the optimal or best swing.
