Switching power supply

A switching power supply for achieving a constant current drooping characteristic of sufficient accuracy with low cost and the minimum number of components. In the switching power supply, a secondary duty limiter circuit outputs a clock signal from the time a switching element is turned off until the time the on duty of secondary current, which starts flowing to a secondary winding of a transformer, is fixed at a predetermined value. A clock signal selector circuit selects and outputs the clock signal when a load increases and the on duty of the secondary current reaches the predetermined value. Consequently, when the load increases, a direct current output voltage decreases and an output characteristic becomes a constant current drooping characteristic. At this point, when the voltage of an element current detection signal reaches an overcurrent protection reference voltage, a drain current control circuit outputs a turn-off signal for determining the turn-off of the switching element, therefore the peak current of the secondary current is kept at a fixed value.

An apparatus for regulating a transient response of an output signal of an electrical generator. The apparatus comprises a tapped output winding means for providing a first AC signal and a second AC signal. The first and second AC signals have respective RMS values. The RMS value of the first AC signal is greater than the RMS value of the second AC signal. An AC switching means for selecting between the first AC signal or the second AC signal, and thereby providing a switched AC signal which has a duty cycle. A rectifier means for rectifying the switched AC signal and providing a rectified DC signal. The rectified DC signal has a DC signal component, a square wave signal component and a ripple signal component. The square wave signal component has a duty cycle. The duty cycle of the square wave signal component is equal to the duty cycle of the switched AC signal. A filter means for filtering the rectified DC signal and for providing the output signal. The filter means is operable to filter the rectified DC signal by averaging the square wave component and filtering the ripple component. The AC switching means is responsive to the output signal to adjust the duty cycle of the switched AC signal to regulate the output signal.

Wireless data and power transfer over an inductive telemetry link

A telemetry device includes a resonant inductive link with a primary LC tank and secondary LC tank configured to resonate at a carrier frequency. A modulator assembly in communication with the secondary LC tank implements data-synchronized cyclic on-off keying modulation (COOK) to periodically create a short across the secondary LC tank in response to a pulse from a phase selector and phase-locked loop. During the full cycle-length of the short, data can be transmitted across the inductive link while the charge across the secondary LC tank is preserved. Power may be transferred across the link during non-shorted cycles.
