Reinforced battery electrodes

The gravimetric and volumetric efficiency of lithium ion batteries may be increased if high capacity materials like tin and silicon may be employed as the lithium-accepting host in the negative electrode of the battery. But both tin and silicon, when fully charged with lithium, undergo expansions of up to 300% and generate appreciable internal stresses which have potential to spall off material from the electrode on each discharge-charge cycle, resulting in a progressive reduction in battery capacity, also known as battery fade. A method of reinforcing such electrode materials by incorporating within them fiber reinforcements or shaped, elongated reinforcements fabricated of shape memory alloy is described. Electrode materials incorporating such reinforcements are less prone to damage under applied stress and so less prone to battery fade.

Electronically controlled tow hitch assembly

InactiveUS20100109286A1Safety easeEase of operation of towTowing devicesEngineeringBiological activation
An electronically controlled tow hitch assembly for a vehicle is provided which has a controller for locking and unlocking the assembly. The assembly has a locking unit with a receiving aperture into which a connector attached to a flange for holding a load or trailer is inserted. The locking unit has a locking shaft that extends through the aperture of the unit and passes through a groove in the wall of the aperture and an aligned groove in the connector for locking. An electric motor with a reduction gearbox is utilized to lock and unlock the connector from the locking unit. A spring loaded safety pin is used for locking the locking shaft with the tip of the safety pin entering the aperture and locking the locking shaft in position. The locking unit has an activation switch that determines when the connector has been fully inserted into the unit. The controller will only control the motor to lock the locking shaft when activated by the activation switch. A roller switch is provided to determine when the safety pin has been removed from the locking shaft and conveys the information to the controller which may not allow the motor to unlock the locking shaft unless the safety pin has been held out for a specified length of time. The controller measures the rotation of the locking shaft during locking, the amperage being drawn by the electric motor and the time for locking and uses these factors to determine whether the locking has been satisfactory or not. If not, the controller will reverse the motor which will unlock the connector.

Sealed coaxial cable connector and related method

A connector is provided for coupling an end of a coaxial cable to a terminal, such as a cable terminal, a terminal for coupling to another connector, and the like The connector includes a coupler, such as a nut, having a receiving port for engaging the terminal. The coupler also includes an annular collar. The connector also includes a body member, one end of which includes a lip. The lip is inserted through the collar opening. The other end of the body section includes an inner surface portion. The connector still further includes a post, an end of which is sized for insertion between the dielectric and the outer conductor of the cable. The post further includes a post flange and a post shank. The post shank forms a post channel sufficient in diameter to receive the inner conductor and the dielectric of the cable. The post is movable between a cable-insertion position and a cable-installed position. In the cable-installed position, the post shank is received in the body member to form an annular chamber between the post shank and the inner surface portion. The annular chamber is sufficiently narrow in this cable-installed position to compress the outer conductor and the jacket with the post shank and the inner surface portion for establishing a distal seal. Tightening of the coupler to the terminal compresses the lip between the post flange and the annular collar for establishing a proximal seal. Related methods also are provided.

Fixture with integral stops

An improved fixture is provided for securely mounting attachments to an underlying substrate. The fixture includes an outer support member, an inner retainer, a biasing means for biasing the inner retainer relative to the outer support member, and stops for controlling movement between the retainer and support member. The outer support member includes a central bore for receiving the inner retainer which holds an attachment, such as a threaded fastener. In use, the fixture is temporarily secured to a substrate with the inner retainer positioned so that the attachment does not engage the underlying substrate. Thereafter, the inner retainer is forced towards the substrate to a second position wherein the attachment engages the substrate. The fixture's stops project radially outward from the inner retainer and are sized and configured so as to engage the outer support member in the second position so as to prevent inadvertent excessive movement of the inner retainer towards the substrate.

The present invention generally relates to a screw, and more particularly to the improvement of a drive recess of a screw head or a bolt head. The drive recess of the screw head includes four symmetrical arc-shaped grooves and a square groove formed at the center of the arc-shaped grooves. Thus, the types of slot, cross, cross-square combination, square and double-cross of the drive bit of the conventional screw driver bit can be adapted to insert into and engage with the drive recess of the present invention. Particularly, when the screw driver bit having arc-shaped drive bit is simultaneously used, it is easy to control the screw during locking and to generate larger driving torque, thereby achieving the object of practical utility and economizing effort.

Method and device for the transfer of a jaw model in relation to a hinge axis

The invention relates to a method and a registering system for the transfer of a jaw model in relation to a hinge axis, for example, in an articulator, and to a connection device for connecting a lower jaw adapter (1) to a measuring carrier (4), and a bite carrier (3) for producing a bite key. The invention is characterized in that the transfer of the mandibular joint geometry, especially the exact position of the hinge axis of the patient, can be carried out in a state of assembly or an articulator using only a hinge axis determination relative to the lower jaw of the patient. The transfer of the facial arc required until now in prior art is rendered superfluous by the invention. Moreover, the possibilities of use of the transfer in relation to the hinge axis are extended, modularised and simultaneously simplified and accelerated. Sources of error are eliminated, the expenditure on equipment and costs of the transfer of the model can be critically reduced.
