System and method for enabling the originator of an electronic mail message to preset an expiration time, date, and/or event, and to control processing or handling by a recipient

An electronic mail system and method enables the originator of a message sent by electronic mail to select a date, time, or event at which the message and all incarnations of the message to self-destruct, regardless of the number and types of computers or software systems that may have interacted with the message. The system and message also permits the originator to include processing and handling limitations. The necessary control over the message is achieved by encrypting the message and enabling viewing only through a viewer applet arranged to facilitate destruction of the message upon the occurrence of the selected expiration time, date, or event, and to implemented the handling and processing limitations. A central server can be used to exercise additional control over the message by serving as a proxy destination, and by streaming the encrypted message to the viewer applet. The viewer applet can be transmitted to new recipients with the message so that the system and method can direct mail to any electronic mail user.

Owner Controlled Transmitted File Protection and Access Control System and Method

An owner controlled file protection and control system that uses a protected file that is encrypted and has embedded with access and use control features. The file is selected and encrypted and combined with a set of encrypted policy rules by an encryption software program. The policy rules are one or more ‘access rules’ and ‘use rules’ that determine who, what, when, and where the protected file may be accessed and how the protected file will be used. They may be selectively changed at any time and may be location, time and date sensitive. The protected file may be sent to the recipient or stored in a file that the recipient may accessed. During use, each recipient must register with the system and is assigned a registered ID. Using the ‘access rule’, the owner may assign a particular recipient ID to the protected file. A recipient then uses a reader program to generate a request to access and use the protected file to a management server. Management server then reviews the policy rules associated with the protected file to determine if they are satisfied. If the rules are satisfied, then time sensitive digital certificate is sent to the recipient that allows the protected file to be accessed and used according to the policy rules.

Encryption key exchange process using access device

Encryption key exchange processes are disclosed. A disclosed method includes initiating communication between a portable communication device including a token and a first limited use encryption key, and an access device. After communication is initiated, the portable communication device receives a second limited use key from a remote server via the access device. The portable communication device then replaces the first limited use key with the second limited use key. The second limited use key is thereafter used to create access data such as cryptograms that can be used to conduct access transactions.

Electrode of lithium sulfur battery and preparation method thereof

The invention discloses an electrode of a lithium sulfur battery and a preparation method thereof. The electrode of the lithium sulfur battery includes an active substance layer containing sulfur, and conductive hydroxyl or carboxyl layers are formed on the upper surface and the lower surface of the active substance layer respectively; the active substance layer and the conductive hydroxyl are combined, or the active substance layer and the conductive carboxyl layers are combined, through external pressure, a surface substance of the active substance layer generates cross-linking interaction and hydrogen bond interaction with a fiber component of the conductive hydroxyl or carboxyl layers. The hydroxyl or carboxyl layers have high specific surface area, can adsorb polysulfide and inhibit a back-and-forth shuttling effect. The three-layer electrode structure has higher porosity, can store more electrolyte liquids, is conducive to slow down dissolution of sulfur and polysulfide, thereby ensuring occurrence of positive electrode reactions and improving the discharge capacity of the battery. Increase of the electrolyte liquid viscosity due to dissolution of the sulfur and polysulfide is also effectively alleviated. The preparation method is simple, and is easy to popularize and apply.

Actively-switched direct refrigerant battery cooling

A thermal management system for a battery pack having a conductive cooling plate and battery cells includes a compressor, flow control valves, temperature sensor(s), and a controller. The compressor circulates refrigerant through the plate to cool the cells. The temperature sensor measures a temperature of the battery pack. The controller is programmed to receive the temperature from the temperature sensors and selectively transmit switching control signals to the valves to command a change in direction or flow of the refrigerant through the cooling plate. This limits a temperature variance between the battery cells over time. A vehicle includes a transmission, an electric traction motor, a battery pack, and the thermal management system noted above. A method includes receiving the temperature, transmitting switching control signals to the valves, and controlling a flow of refrigerant through the plate via the valves in response to the switching control signals.

Line performance measure

A method is proposed for calculating a line performance, or stability, measure for a telephone line. Various physical parameters associated with the line, such as insulation resistance, capacitance and DC voltages, are measured. The values for each of the parameters are compared to expected values, which are based on historical values measured for that line. Individual performance measures for each parameter are calculated based on the difference between the actual and expected values, normalised by the deviation of that parameter. The deviation accounts for general fluctuations across all the lines. A weighting value is also applied, based on knowledge of values relevant to the good operation of lines. The deviation effectively gives a scaling, and the weighting gives a context to the measured values for a single line. The individual performance measures are summed to get the final performance measure for the line. Thus, the performance measure for the line gives an indication of the stability of that line, based on analysis of the past performance of that line, and taking into account the general fluctuations seen over all lines.
