Methods, systems, and kits for lung volume reduction

Lung volume reduction is performed in a minimally invasive manner by isolating a lung tissue segment, optionally reducing gas flow obstructions within the segment, and aspirating the segment to cause the segment to at least partially collapse. Further optionally, external pressure may be applied on the segment to assist in complete collapse. Reduction of gas flow obstructions may be achieved in a variety of ways, including over inflation of the lung, introduction of mucolytic or dilation agents, application of vibrational energy, induction of absorption atelectasis, or the like. Optionally, diagnostic procedures on the isolated lung segment may be performed, typically using the same isolation / access catheter.

Wound dressing with micropump

InactiveUS20110112492A1Great patient comfortEasy ambulationWound drainsPlastersWound dressingMicropump
A composite wound dressing apparatus promotes healing of a wound via the use of a micropump system. The micropump system includes a micropump that applies a subatmospheric pressure to the wound to effectively draw wound fluid or exudate away from the wound bed, or deliver fluids to the wound bed, without the need for a cumbersome external pressure (e.g. vacuum) source. Hence, the wound dressing and micropump system is portable which allows the patient mobility that is unavailable when an external vacuum source is used.

Urological device for the incontinent male

The present invention features a device to prevent the unwanted flow of urine in incontinent human males. This penile clamp is designed to provide an external pressure applied to the underside of the penis at the base thereof to close the urethral canal. The apparatus includes a rigid projection on the lower member of the device that applies a concentrated force on the canal. The upper bar of the device provides an attachment for a pad as an integral part of an easily disinfected clamp that is hinged at one end and provided with an adjustable tensioning closure device at its other end. The closure device is easily removable to allow one hand release of the penis restriction. A screw-type adjustment is easily set and is easily disassembled by a quick-release apparatus. While the clamp can be closed over the penis of an incontinent male to prevent urination, it does not appreciably restrict blood flow therein.

Manually operated switch for enabling and disabling an RFID card

A radio operated data card whose outer jacket forms a sealed protected housing for internal electrical components, including an RFID integrated circuit which incorporates data storage and a radio frequency transceiver, an on card antenna, and manually operated, normally open electrical switch contacts connected between the on-card electronic circuitry and the antenna. The open switch contacts normally disable the card, protecting the data on the card from being surreptitiously read until the switch contacts are intentionally closed by the cardholder to enable data transfer to occur. The cardholder may activate the card by applying external pressure to the surface of the card at a predetermined position, closing the switch contacts which open again automatically when pressure is removed. A tactile indicia on the surface of the card allows the cardholder to determine by touch where the card should be pressed to enable data transfers to occur. In an alternate embodiment, a mating key in the possession of the cardholder may be brought into proximity with the card to close the normally open switch to permit information to be read from the card.

Display apparatus, method of driving the same, and sensing driver of display apparatus

In a display apparatus, a display panel includes touch sensors that make contact with a common electrode by an external pressure to output a common voltage, and a sensing driver receives the common voltage from the touch sensors to generate a sensing signal. A controller receives the sensing signal from the sensing driver and calculates position information to which the external pressure is applied based on the sensing signal. The sensing driver includes a switching circuit that receives a switching signal from the controller to switch the common voltage. Thus, the display apparatus prevents the common voltage from being input during a period where a voltage level of the common voltage is abnormally high, thereby preventing a logic circuit of the sensing driver from being damaged.

Flexible mixing pouch with aseptic burstable internal chambers

A flexible mixing pouch with aseptic burstable internal chambers for storing a plurality of substances in isolated, hermetically sealed aseptic chambers therein in order to maintain the freshness and integrity of each pre-measured substance until ready for combining into a desired solution. The interior pocket of the outer pouch contains one or more internal storage chambers adjacent a mixing chamber. Impermeable sheets bonded to the outer pouch define the sealed storage chambers and include a frangible portion thereon forming burst ports. The user squeezes the desired storage chamber and the pressure applied thereto creates a disparity between the internal pressure against the impermeable sheet and the external pressure in said mixing chamber and compromises the integrity of the associated burst port causing it to rupture and discharge the contained substance into the mixing chamber where it is combined with the contained substance to create the desired solution having a precise, predefined ratio of the first substance to the second substance.
