Travel discovery and recommendation method and system

A suggestive intelligent recommendation engine enabling customers to discover new travel and entertainment opportunities tied to value enhanced offers from travel service providers through a static or dynamic bid / offer system internal to a travel reservation system. The customer inputs various travel criteria and preferences, and a computer generates travel predictors. A series of master travel itineraries are generated, which include various travel segments for each master itinerary. Each segment includes a number of options for the customer to review, consider, select and delete, and request revisions. The master itineraries are shuffled on an iterative based on the selections of the customer from the segments of the master itinerary. Prices for each selected option are requested form various travel service providers, which are then discounted prior to presentation to the customer. A proposed itinerary payment solution is generated, which may include a monetary portion and a promotional portion.

Segmenting audio signals into auditory events

In one aspect, the invention divides an audio signal into auditory events, each of which tends to be perceived as separate and distinct, by calculating the spectral content of successive time blocks of the audio signal (5-1), calculating the difference in spectral content between successive time blocks of the audio signal (5-2), and identifying an auditory event boundary as the boundary between successive time blocks when the difference in the spectral content between such successive time blocks exceeds a threshold (5-3). In another aspect, the invention generates a reduced-information representation of an audio signal by dividing an audio signal into auditory events, each of which tends to be perceived as separate and distinct, and formatting and storing information relating to the auditory events (5-4). Optionally, the invention may also assign a characteristic to one or more of the auditory events (5-5).

Method and apparatus for channel prediction in wireless networks

Techniques and systems for channel prediction in wireless networks. A base station receives a succession of channel indicators from each of a plurality of mobile units, each channel indicator being received from each mobile unit once per timeslot. A channel predictor uses the channel indicators to generate a channel condition prediction for each mobile unit, the channel condition prediction being based on a balanced estimate using the most recent channel condition indicator and the mean of the succession of channel indicators. A weight is computed based on a gradient of the succession channel indicator values and used to assign relative emphasis to the most recent channel condition indicator and the mean channel condition indicator in order to give greater emphasis to the most recent indicator during slowly changing conditions and greater emphasis to the mean indicator during rapidly changing conditions.

Providing Phase Diversity Combining Of Digital Radio Broadcast Signals

In one embodiment, a method for performing antenna diversity combining for digitally broadcast radio signals includes generating a first signal quality metric for a first signal obtained from an incoming digitally broadcast radio signal received in a first signal path, and similarly generating a second signal quality metric for a second signal obtained from the radio signal received in a second signal path. Then the first and second signals from these paths can be coherently combined based on the signal quality metrics to obtain a combined frequency domain symbol. In some embodiments, this combined frequency domain symbol may be remodulated to a time domain symbol. Also in some embodiments N tuners can be daisy chained to generate a final output that is either a frequency domain symbol of combined sub-carriers, soft bits to a forward error correction (FEC) decoder, or a remodulated time domain symbol. As a further possibility, each of the N tuners can use a different local oscillator (LO) frequency.

Fishing lure

ActiveUS7308773B1Weight optimizationSubstantial motionBaitDecoyEngineering
A flexible artificial fishing lure comprising a lure body and a pair of legs extending from the lure body, wherein each leg has an upper leg portion attached to the lure body and a lower leg portion extending rearward of the upper leg portion. Each lower leg portion tapers inwardly such that the thickness of each lower leg portion gradually decreases from an outer edge toward an inner edge. According to this design, the lower leg portions have greater weight along the outer edge than along the inner edge. In operation, the lower leg portions move multi-dimensionally as the lure is pulled through the water, thereby creating substantial motion and concomitant vibrations for attracting fish.

Image sensing apparatus and method of controlling same

If zoom magnification falls within an optical-zoom application scaling range of zoom magnifications Z1 to Z2, image data that has been enlarged by a zoom lens is recorded on a recording medium. If zoom magnification falls within an electronic-zoom application scaling range of zoom magnifications Z2 to Z3, the image data is subjected to super-resolution processing, super-resolution image data and image data that has not been subjected to super-resolution processing are combined by weighting processing executed such that the higher the zoom magnification, the greater the weight assigned to the super-resolution image data, and the resultant image data is subjected to electronic zoom processing and then recorded. If zoom magnification exceeds Z3, the super-resolution image data is recorded upon being subjected to electronic zoom processing.

Method of operating a wind turbine

In a first aspect, the present invention provides a method of operating a wind turbine having a rotor with a plurality of blades, a nacelle, one or more pitch systems for pitching the blades, a system for determining a speed of the rotor, and a system for determining a fore-aft speed of the nacelle. The method comprises determining the speed of the rotor, determining the fore-aft speed of the nacelle, and calculating a difference between the determined speed of the rotor and a predefined speed of reference of the rotor. After, pitch commands are obtained by performing a PID control of this calculated difference of speeds, said PID control being tuned for adapting the sensitivity of the PID control as a function of the determined fore-aft speed of the nacelle. Then, the one or more pitch systems pitch the blades in accordance with said obtained pitch commands.

Steel stud anchor

A metal anchoring fastener fastens millwork onto walls constructed with wall cladding fastened to steel studs. The load typical of a loaded cabinet is borne by the steel stud anchors owing to the mate between the profile of the steel stud anchor and the layers of millwork and wall cladding and steel stud that said anchor penetrates. The pitch of the thread adorning the profile of the steel stud anchor progresses non-linearly along the length of said shaft, the shaft is generally non-linear in profile, and the thread profile is non-uniform along the length of said shaft. The anchor can also support a secondary screw concentrically penetrating the void at the center of the anchor, in order to hang loads from a wall, with or without millwork. Predrilling of the holes can enable installation of these zinc anchors.

Turbine blade attachment lightening holes

The present invention seeks to provide a turbine blade with increased creep capability for both uncooled and cooled turbine blades while generally maintaining operating stress levels at an interface region between the turbine blade and a turbine disk. A turbine blade is disclosed having an attachment, a neck, a platform, and an airfoil. Extending radially outward from the attachment, through the neck, and terminating radially inward of the platform is a plurality of first cavities. The turbine blade in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention is cast from a high density nickel base alloy with high temperature capability and improved creep capability. A plurality of first cavities are placed in the attachment and neck region to reduce excess weight of the turbine blade due to the higher density, greater creep capable alloy. Reducing the weight of the blade in this region provides increased creep capability in the turbine blade airfoil while maintaining operating stress levels.
