Short range lidar apparatus having a flat spatial response

A flat spatial response LIDAR apparatus for detecting particles within a short range is provided. The apparatus includes a light source projecting a light beam which is back-scattered by the particles to be detected. The back-scattered light is received, detected and analyzed. A spatial filter spatially filters the received back-scattered light in order to flatten the spatial response of the apparatus, so that a same concentration of particles at any distance within the short range will generate a signal of substantially the same intensity. This is for example accomplished by a properly profiled mask disposed in front of the detector, or a plurality of spatially distributed waveguides. As a result, the LIDAR apparatus can compensate for the 1 / r2 dependence, or other dependences of the back-scattered light on the distance r.

Micro-machined suspension plate with integral proof mass for use in a seismometer or other device

An accelerometer or a seismometer using an in-plane suspension geometry having a suspension plate and at least one fixed capacitive plate. The suspension plate is formed from a single piece and includes an external frame, a pair of flexural elements, and an integrated proof mass between the flexures. The flexural elements allow the proof mass to move in the sensitive direction in the plane of suspension while restricting movement in all off-axis directions. Off-axis motion of the proof mass is minimized by the use of intermediate frames disbursed within and between the flexural elements. Intermediate frames can include motion stops to prevent further relative motion during overload conditions. The device can also include a dampening structure, such as a spring or gas structure that includes a trapezoidal piston and corresponding cylinder, to provide damping during non-powered states.

Fabry-Perot filters are disclosed. having micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) parts operable for tuning of the filters. The filters of the present invention are particularly useful in WDM and DWDM optical communication systems for multiplexing and demultiplexing channels of electromagnetically-carried data traversing the system. The filter can be miniaturized by etching or photolithographing the filter on silicon wafers utilizing MEMS technology. A MEMS device fabricated on the wafer is operative for moving a variably positioned mirror to change the length of the cavity or etalon of the Fabry-Perot filter, thereby tuning the filter to multiplex or demultiplex the channels.

First-order loudspeaker crossover network

A first-order crossover network having low-pass and high-pass filters to respectively drive first and second loudspeakers in a loudspeaker system is designed such that the phase difference at a crossover frequency between output signals of the first and second loudspeakers is no greater than 60 degrees, so that the output signals are at least partially in phase. Preferably, the phase difference should be about 40 degrees to create a near in-phase effect. The polarity in which the first loudspeaker is coupled to the first-order crossover network is an inverse of the polarity in which the second loudspeaker is coupled to the crossover network. Optionally, the input signals can be equalized to flatten the magnitude responses of the crossover network.

System and method for wideband high current RF choke network

A high current RF choke network comprising a high current RF choke combined with an all-pass T-bridge filter. The high current RF choke may be connected to a grounded capacitor in the serial branch of the all-pass filter. In this case the parasitic capacitance of the RF choke practically becomes an integral part of the all-pass filter capacitor. The added capacitance in parallel to the parasitic capacitance of the high current RF choke practically neutralizes the resonances of the high current RF choke and thus extends significantly the operating frequency range of the network. The operating frequencies bandwidth range of the high current RF choke network is extended from the legacy range of 5 MHz to 1 GHz up to an extended range of at least 5 MHz to 3 GHz.
