A fully integrated automated laser weld process control system (LWPCS) and method of controlling the fabrication of structural parts, particularly for shipbuilding and other industries. The LWPCS defines joint and weld quality attributes as process control variables and integrates these weld quality variables, along with the more traditional process parameters such as laser power, wire feed, GMAW voltage and active seam tracking, into a closed-loop monitoring and control system. The LWPCS includes a central processor and a plurality of subsystems that control laser beam positioning, vision-based monitoring and image processing, active weld-quality monitoring and inspection, adaptive beam delivery, and seam tracking. Cross-communication between subsystems is managed by the central processor. In addition to process control, the system extracts weld quality attributes during the weld process and provides immediate documentation of the weld quality.

An early warning system for a tractor operator engaged in towing or pushing an aircraft includes two ultrasonic sensors that are used to create a detection area in which the aircraft should be present when the steering angle is well within a safe range. When one of the detectors fails to detect the presence of the aircraft, then the operator is alerted, before over steering can occur, in order that corrective action can be undertaken. Accordingly, complex distance-measuring algorithms can be avoided as can the requirement that an aircraft fuselage have a specially modified detection region.

A tandem exerciser is described with two facing seats and two pedal cranks that cause tandem riders to face each other and pedal forwards. A mutually operable handlebar crank with opposing handles mechanically couples to pedals on both sides of the distal pedal crank. A system and method for collecting, at a central station, utility consumption data from a plurality of sites, by a meter unit and a booster unit for each site. The meter unit includes a measuring device for measuring the utility consumption at the respective site; a storage device for storing the measured utility consumption during successive relatively-short time intervals; and a short-range transceiver. This booster unit includes a short-range transceiver for communication with the short-range transceiver of the meter unit at the respective site via a short-range transmission channel; and a long-range transmitter for transmitting utility consumption data to the central station via a long-range transmission channel. The system further includes a control system periodically activating the booster unit from a relatively long sleep state, to a relatively short active state during which the booster unit receives from its respective meter unit, via the short-range transmission channel, the utility consumption data stored therein during the preceding sleep state of the booster unit; and transmits the received utility consumption data to the central station via the long-range transmission channel.

A next generation performance network management system (30′) includes a first component (34a) that monitors one or more attributes of network elements (11₁–11_n, 12₁–12_m, 20 and 26) as well as peripheral devices (16 and 22) and interconnecting links (18, 24) to establish an historic trend for each monitored element. A second performance management system component (34b) monitors, on a near real-time basis, critical attributes of elements identified from historic trends as undergoing performance degradation. A method for predicting and warning of WAT value includes the steps as follows. A key process is selected and a WAT value after finishing the key process is used as a predictive goal. A predicting model is built. One batch or plural batches of predictive wafers are prepared, and a Fault Detection and Classification data (FDC data) and a metrology data from the predictive wafers of the key process are collected. The FDC data and the metrology data collected from the predictive wafers are inputted into the predicting model for processing a normal predicting procedure, and a predictive WAT value by the predicting model is outputted. The present invention can accurately predict the WAT value, effectively monitor some specific defective wafers and continuously perform the improvement for the specific defective wafer.

A fire suppression system for aircraft storage containers includes a fire suppression unit removably located within each cargo container and a human to machine interface (HMI) located in the aircraft cockpit. Each fire suppression unit includes an identifier so that each unit is identified and correlated with its container. The HMI monitors each fire suppression unit including monitoring internal temperature, presence of chemical fumes, presence of smoke, presence of flammable gases, and presence of fire. Each fire suppression unit is programmed with specific thresholds of temperature, chemical fumes, smoke, and/or flammable gases, whereby when a threshold is reached activation of fire suppression means within the fire suppression unit is accomplished.
