Energy storage system state of charge diagnostic

ActiveUS20050189918A1Avoid damageVehicle operation can be disabled and may become disabledBatteries circuit arrangementsPropulsion using engine-driven generatorsStored energyOperating point
An energy storage system determined to be at an operating point indicative of incipient threat to its condition is permitted to continue power flow for a duration that is a function of the state of charge before a diagnosis of a critical state of charge condition is rendered. If the state of charge returns to an acceptable region before the duration expires, no diagnosis of a critical state of charge condition is rendered. Generally, the duration increases as the state of charge trends toward the region of acceptable state of charge and decreases as the state of charge trends away from the region of acceptable state of charge.

Laser welding control system

A fully integrated automated laser weld process control system (LWPCS) and method of controlling the fabrication of structural parts, particularly for shipbuilding and other industries. The LWPCS defines joint and weld quality attributes as process control variables and integrates these weld quality variables, along with the more traditional process parameters such as laser power, wire feed, GMAW voltage and active seam tracking, into a closed-loop monitoring and control system. The LWPCS includes a central processor and a plurality of subsystems that control laser beam positioning, vision-based monitoring and image processing, active weld-quality monitoring and inspection, adaptive beam delivery, and seam tracking. Cross-communication between subsystems is managed by the central processor. In addition to process control, the system extracts weld quality attributes during the weld process and provides immediate documentation of the weld quality.

Method and system for over-steer avoidance

An early warning system for a tractor operator engaged in towing or pushing an aircraft includes two ultrasonic sensors that are used to create a detection area in which the aircraft should be present when the steering angle is well within a safe range. When one of the detectors fails to detect the presence of the aircraft, then the operator is alerted, before over steering can occur, in order that corrective action can be undertaken. Accordingly, complex distance-measuring algorithms can be avoided as can the requirement that an aircraft fuselage have a specially modified detection region.

Tandem exerciser and power generator

A tandem exerciser is described with two facing seats and two pedal cranks that cause tandem riders to face each other and pedal forwards. A mutually operable handlebar crank with opposing handles mechanically couples to pedals on both sides of the distal pedal crank. A single sprocket wheel concentrically attached to the proximal pedal crank is coupled by a twisted, figure-eight looped chain to one of two sprocket wheels coupled to the distal pedal crank. These opposing sprocket wheels are mounted to their respective pedal cranks so as to have opposite offset angles relative to vertical plane of frame. These offset angles prevent damaging physical contact between sides of chain. The remaining sprocket wheel of distal pedal crank is conventionally chain coupled to freewheel coupled to hub of flywheel. Optionally, a power generator is belt-coupled to outer rim of flywheel, to produce electrical, fluidic or motive power.

System and process for supply management for the assembly of expensive products

A method and system are described for managing component supply for complex products by monitoring the delivery performance of component suppliers and optimizing the times at which orders are placed. Performance of component suppliers is monitored by setting supply delivery performance targets for each supplier, and then monitoring and managing supply delivery performance for each supplier. Component order times are optimized by 1) optimizing safety stock for each component, 2) calculating optimal times to place supply orders for each component in order to maintain the safety stock level, and then 3) iterating safety stock calculations in order to minimize overall inventory costs and maximize supply availability, taking into account supply lead times, component costs, and target tolerances for delays in the assembly of components. The method also provides projections of effects of changes in supply lead time performance on assembly schedules so that managers can seek delivery improvements from component suppliers.

Continuous feeding and decompressing device, tube assembly, and methods

A decompressing and feeding device for safely feeding in the gastrointestinal tract of a recovering patient continuously aspirates and feeds at a rate commensurate with the ability of the intestines to absorb fluids including nutrient. Air is also aspirated in the process so that neither air nor excess fluids cause distension in the gastrointestinal tract. Digestive juices and nutrients that are aspirated are continuously refed together with unused feeding material into the gastrointestinal tract at a location that more efficiently moves and digests the food. The device may include two aspirate reservoirs to and from which aspirate is alternatingly transferred. To provide the continuous and alternating flow, a solenoid valve and timer switch device is provided. Alternatively, a device with a single aspirate reservoir to which and from which aspirate is transferred can be used. A feeding and aspirating tube assembly having a plurality of separable lumens can be incorporated.

Proactive predictive preventative network management technique

A next generation performance network management system (30′) includes a first component (34a) that monitors one or more attributes of network elements (111–11n, 121–12m, 20 and 26) as well as peripheral devices (16 and 22) and interconnecting links (18, 24) to establish an historic trend for each monitored element. A second performance management system component (34b) monitors, on a near real-time basis, critical attributes of elements identified from historic trends as undergoing performance degradation. If such performance degradations persist, as detected by such near real-time monitoring, then the network operator can repair or replace the element in question to maintain network performance.

Method and system for presenting a video call management console

Management information for plural video calls is presented through a user interface that displays a list of calls prioritized based on one or more parameters, such as alarms, so that the most important calls are prominently displayed as they need attention. An alarm tracker tracks alarms associated with video device parameters, such as jitter, latency and linearity, and an alarm priority module determines the priority of video calls for display by comparing the alarms associated with the video calls. In one embodiment, the user interface has a locking option to lock a call's display position, for instance when a particularly important call with a lesser number of alarms nonetheless has a need for closer monitoring.
