A low-latency virtual reality display system that provides rapid updates to virtual reality displays in response to a user's movements. Display images generated by rendering a 3D virtual world are modified using an image warping approximation, which allows updates to be calculated and displayed quickly. Image warping is performed using various rerendering approximations that use simplified 3D models and simplified 3D to 2D projections. An example of such a rerendering approximation is a shifting of all pixels in the display by a pixel translation vector that is calculated based on the user's movements; pixel translation may be done very quickly, possibly using hardware acceleration, and may be sufficiently realistic particularly for small changes in a user's position and orientation. Additional features include techniques to fill holes in displays generated by image warping, synchronizing full rendering with approximate rerendering, and using prediction of a user's future movements to reduce apparent latency.

A makeup simulation enables a high-quality simulation image quickly and simply. A first image generator portion 20 generates n transparency layer images in which the transparency of each pixel is normalized on the basis of n layer images in a use-reference image. A second image generator portion 30 generates n color converted layer images by applying a color conversion on a frame image using color components of the layer images. A method of improving image quality of a digital image is provided. In particular, the motion blur in an image taken in a long exposure time is reduced by dividing the exposure time into several shorter periods and capturing a series of images in those shorter periods. Among the images, one reference image is selected and the remaining images are registered in reference to the reference image by image warping, for example. After identifying the pixels in each of the remaining images and the corresponding pixels in the reference image, a weighting factor is assigned to each of the pixels in the remaining images based on the similarity in the pixel values between the remaining images and reference image. A weight average operation is carried out to sum the corresponding pixels in the reference and the remaining images to generate the final image.

Spreading the gross rotation error ΔR further includes (4) tracing a pixel on the panoramic image to a camera optical center of the images to form a first ray, (5) determining a second ray originating from the camera optical center that would be rotated by the compensation matrix R_c to coincide with the first ray, (6) tracing the second ray to a second pixel on one of the images, and (7) painting the first pixel with color values of the second pixel.

Systems and methods generate a 3D model of a surface of an object immersed in a transparent liquid within a stationary cylindrical transparent tank. First and second laser line projectors and a camera are rotated around a central axis of the cylindrical tank. The first and second laser line projectors each generate a laser line perpendicular to a plane or rotation and aligned with the center of rotation. The camera images the object. An image from the camera is captured at each of several angular positions of the camera relative to a reference position of the stationary cylindrical tank. The captured images are processed to determine, for each laser line within each image, a plurality of 3D positions where the laser line is incident upon a surface of the object. In embodiments, images are corrected with ray tracing or image warping and registration functions.

A method of atlas mapping and an apparatus for image mapping are provided. The invention belongs to the technical field of image detection and recognition, and can be used in the fields related to image sequence processing, such as automatic piloting, detection and recognition of visual objects of unmanned aerial vehicles, and detection of animation video. Firstly, the input image is transformed by Image Warping (Image Warping) based on motion compensation, then the depth convolution feature maps are extracted from the winding images by depth convolution neural network, and then the depth convolution feature maps of the image sequences are fused. Finally, the fused depth convolution feature maps are used in target detection modules such as target location, target recognition or region recommendation. A main technical feature of that invention comprises two partsof a computing module of a winding image based on motion compensation in the early stage and a fusion module of a depth convolution feature map of a front image sequence and a rear image sequence in the late stage. The invention can overcome the problem that the detection accuracy of a single image is low or even cannot be detected due to partial occlusion, motion blur and large deformation of thedetection target.

A real-time low frame-rate video compression system and method that allows the user to perform face-to-face communication through an extremely low bandwidth network. The system and method employs image cropping and morphing to reduce frame rates. At the encoder side, the system is able to automatically select only a few good faces from the original sequence with high visual quality and compress and transmit them. At the decoder side, the system use image-morphing based rendering method to generate a normal frame-rate video. Experimental results show that the system is superior to more traditional video codecs for low bit-rate face-to-face communication.

The present invention is to provide a method for achieving a clear and precise optical zooming mechanism, which is applied to an electronic device equipped with a wide-angle image capturing element and a long-focus image capturing element. The wide-angle image capturing element and the long-focus image capturing element are controlled by the electronic device for capturing a wide-angle image and a long-focus image of a same spot simultaneously and respectively. The method enables the electronic device to sequentially perform an exposure and white balance adjustment process, a robust image matching algorithm and an image morphing fusion process to the wide-angle image and the long-focus image, respectively, so as to generate a clear and precise optical zooming image of the spot without having a significant skipping phenomenon occurred in an object within two zooming images.
