Some embodiments provide a system for charging devices. The system includes a master device and a slave device. Some embodiments provide a method for charging devices in a system that includes a slave device and a master device. The slave device includes (1) an antenna to receive a radio frequency (RF) beam and (2) a power generation module connected to the antenna that converts RF energy received by the slave antenna to power. The master device includes (1) a directional antenna to direct RF power to the antenna of the slave device and (2) a module that provides power to the directional antenna of the master device.

A radio-over-fiber (RoF) wireless picocellular system adapted to form an array of substantially non-overlapping individual picocells by operating adjacent picocells at different frequencies is operated to form one or more combined picocells. The combined picocells are formed from two or more neighboring picocells by the central head-end station operating neighboring picocells at a common frequency. Communication between the central head-end station and a client device residing within a combined picocell is enhanced by the availability of two or more transponder antenna systems. Thus, enhanced communication techniques such as antenna diversity, phased-array antenna networks and multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) methods can be implemented to provide the system with enhanced performance capability. More specifically, the invention relates to a low or ultra-low temperature storage device comprising an antenna for transmission of data between a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag and an RFID tag transceiver and its use for item identification, organization, classification, databasing, tracking or locating.

Embodiments of the present disclosure is directed to the use of spatially diverse multiple antenna structures and associated radio transmitters and receivers in a sensor for accurate proximity detection. In a retail environment, a system based on a network of such (smart) sensors can accurately detect presence and location of a shopper's wireless mobile device as the shopper moves along the shopping aisles carrying the wireless mobile device (e.g. smartphone). The present invention is directed to a wireless communication system capable of keeping a level of a wireless signal received by a relay apparatus (20) within a predetermined dynamic range. In a control apparatus (10), a transmitting section (102) converts a downstream electric signal into a downstream optical signal and transmits the downstream optical signal to the relay apparatus (20) via an optical transmission path (40). The relay apparatus (20) converts the received downstream optical signal into a downstream electric signal and transmits the downstream electric signal as a wireless signal to a wireless communication terminal (30) from a transmitting/receiving antenna section (204). In the relay apparatus (20), a level adjustment section (207) adjusts the level of the wireless signal transmitted by the relay apparatus (20) such that the receiving level of the wireless signal received by the relay apparatus is kept within a predetermined range.

The cognitive controller is configured to automatically focus the system's attention on a region of interest within the surveillance volume in response to an attention request, by selecting the transmitter's waveform, selecting the receiver's processing mode, and controlling the transmitter's antenna. The cognitive controller learns from the environment by exploiting the repository's historical receiver information and further learns from the consequences of its past decision.
