Methods for modifying electrical currents in neuronal circuits

Disclosed herein are methods for modifying electrical currents in brain circuits through the simultaneous use of focused ultrasound pulse (FUP) and an existing brain-imaging system, such as a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) system. The methods are used for research, treatment and diagnosis of psychiatric, neurological, and neuroendocrine disorders whose biological mechanisms include brain circuits. The methods include the simultaneous steps of applying FUP to a live neuronal circuit within a brain and monitoring a brain image produced by a brain imaging system during the application of FUP.

Tab-free thermoplastic T-Shirt bag system

A bag and system for dispensing thermoplastic bags or the like from a stack of bags. The preferred, exemplary embodiment of the present system teaches a configuration which minimizes the probability of stress fractures in the dispensed bag, and tearing associated therewith, while providing a system which leaves no "throw away" product on the rack after dispensing a bag stack, as the present system has no central tear-off tab, thereby providing a more environmentally attractive alternative to other, prior art systems. Further, the bag of the present invention also contemplates a non-removable central mouth support raised area, wherein there is provided a support cut configured to accept a rack central support piece, the cut configured to provide maximum ease in separation of the dispensed bag from the pack, with clean separation of the area above the support cut of the pack, thereby preventing tearing of the bag upon dispensing. Situated in spaced relationship above the medial portion of support cut is a dispense cut formed between the upper edge of the raised area formed in the bag mouth area of the bag, the dispense cut configured to facilitate removal of the bag from a bag rack support piece, dispensing an individual bag from a pack of bags, while not affecting the support strength of the support cut in its operation of retaining the stack of bags upon the bag rack.

Dual optic, curvature changing accommodative iol having a fixed disaccommodated refractive state

An IOL includes a fluid optic body having a cavity defined by a sidewall, a deformable optical membrane intersecting the sidewall around an anterior circumference of the sidewall, and a posterior optic intersecting the sidewall around a posterior circumference of the sidewall. The posterior optic includes a central protrusion extending anteriorly into the cavity and the deformable optical membrane includes a ring-shaped protrusion extending posteriorly into a space between the sidewall and the central protrusion. A second optic body is spaced apart from the fluid optic body and coupled thereto via a plurality of struts. Axial compression causes the plurality of struts to deform the sidewall in a manner that increases the diameter of the cavity, modifying a curvature of the deformable optical membrane is modified. Contact between the ring-shaped protrusion and the central protrusion defines a maximum modification to the curvature of the deformable optical membrane.

Glide modulator system and method for a ram air parachute

A system and method is provided for shortening specific suspension lines near the center of a ram air parachute in order to distort the airfoil section only in the center section of the canopy. This distortion of the center section results in a significant alteration of the glide ratio of the parachute by simultaneously reducing the forward speed and increasing the rate of descent. Meanwhile, because the canopy is only distorted in the center section, the wingtips remain extended and pressurized so that the steering apparatus at the trailing edge of the canopy remains fully functional to direct the heading.

Dynamic pallet dimensioning with forklift taring

Cargo objects, in a freight-related environment, are dynamically dimensioned while being held at a cargo-handling position of a vehicle. A three-dimensional model is obtained comprising points representing surfaces of the vehicle. Using the model, the position of a point of reference of a first wheel of the vehicle is obtained, as is the position of a split point relative to the position of the first wheel point of reference. A driving direction of the vehicle is obtained. A splitting plane is determined, which passes through the split point and is perpendicular to the driving direction. A three-dimensional model of the cargo is detrmined by subtracting, from the vehicle three-dimensional model, the points that are positioned on the side of the splitting plane opposite to the side of the splitting plane that make up the first wheel point of reference. The volume is then determined from the cargo three-dimensional model.
