Collective procurement management system

A collective procurement management system which permits multiple potential purchasers of a specific item or service to submit orders for the item or service on an ongoing basis. As orders enter the system, they are grouped such that potential purchasers are may “cooperate” in generating a collective bulk order so that all participants may obtain discount / volume pricing. Once a threshold level of order volume is obtained as a result of multiple orders, the grouped order is submitted to the supplier for fulfillment. The order is then fulfilled at a volume pricing level although individual portions of the collective order are routed to a plurality of purchasers. The present invention also includes a Reverse Auction Process (RAP) which, in one embodiment, operates to allow potential purchasers to select a product or service and set a maximum price that they are willing to pay for the same. Following submission of this information to the system, possibly including orders for the same item from other potential buyers, potential vendors bid to supply the item to the relevant buyers requesting the item.

Apparatus and methods for simultaneous operation of miniaturized reactors

The present invention provides a variety of microscale bioreactors (microfermentors) and microscale bioreactor arrays for use in culturing cells. The microfermentors include a vessel for culturing cells and means for providing oxygen to the interior of the vessel at a concentration sufficient to support cell growth, e.g., growth of bacterial cells. Depending on the embodiment, the microfermentor vessel may have various interior volumes less than approximately 1 ml. The microfermentors may include an aeration membrane and optionally a variety of sensing devices. The invention further provides a chamber to contain the microfermentors and microfermentor arrays and to provide environmental control. Certain of the microfermentors include a second chamber that may be used, e.g., to provide oxygen, nutrients, pH control, etc., to the culture vessel and/or to remove metabolites, etc. Various methods of using the microfermentors, e.g., to select optimum cell strains or bioprocess parameters are provided. The invention provides microreactors having a variety of different designs, some of which incorporate active stirring and/or have the capability to operate in batch or fed-batch mode. The invention further provides an apparatus and methods for simultaneous operation of a plurality of microreactors, with monitoring of the individual microreactors during a run. The invention further provides methods of performing gene expression analysis on cells cultured in microreactors.

Method of playing a matching bonus game

The method includes a bonus game associated with a base game that allows players to use skill and memory to determine the outcome of the bonus game. Players are prompted at the beginning of the bonus game to select at least a first and then a second game space from an array of game spaces, revealing previously hidden indicia. The player continues the selections for a predetermined period of time or until some event occurs, terminating the selections. Bonus payouts are awarded in the event the revealed indicia match. Alternative embodiments include allowing players to qualify for a “sneak peek”, wherein all or some hidden indicia on the game space array are revealed for a short period of time, and random shuffling of the indicia to different game spaces.

Connector configuration for electrochemical cells and meters for use in combination therewith

A substantially planar electrochemical test strip for determination of the presence and / or quantity of an analyte in a sample is provided that has a first electrode, a first connector including two contact pads, and a first conductive lead extending between the first electrode and the first connector to establish a path for conduction of an electrical signal between the first electrode and the first connector; a second electrode, a second connector including one or more contact pads, and a second conductive lead extending between the second electrode and the second connector to establish a path for conduction of an electrical signal between the second electrode and the second connector, and a sample chamber for receiving a sample. The first and second electrode are disposed to contact a sample within the sample chamber such that an electrochemical signal is generated. The contact pad or pads of the second connector are between the contact pads of the first connector when viewed in the plane of the test strip. A meter having contacts for use with the electrochemical test strip, and a combination of a meter and an electrochemical test strip are also provided.

System and method for displaying images of virtual machine environments

A system and method for displaying thumbnail images of the video output of one or more software applications in a window or similar graphical interface to allow the user of a computer system to conveniently and quickly monitor the overall status and progress of several software applications that are running simultaneously. The thumbnail images are generated from the VRAM associated with the software application and are preferably displayed with information corresponding to the associated software application. The thumbnail images may be static or generated at regular intervals according to user preference and the status of the software application.

Respiratory breathing devices, methods and systems

A powered air purifying respirator system for use with at least one filter system includes: a housing including at least one inlet port and at least one outlet port; a motorized air flow system to draw air into the housing via the at least one inlet port; a control system in communicative connection with the motorized air flow system; and a filter system sensor in communicative connection with the control system. The filter system sensor provides information to the control system relating to the type of the at least one filter system upon fluid connection thereof with the housing. The control system can control the motorized air flow system at least in part on the basis of the type of filter system sensed by the filter system sensor. Another powered air purifying respirator system for use with at least one filter system includes: a housing including at least one inlet port and at least one outlet port; a motorized air flow system to draw air into the housing via the at least one inlet port; a control system in communicative connection with the motorized air flow system; and a pressure sensor in communicative connection with the control system to provide information to the control system relating to ambient pressure. The control system can, for example, control the motorized air flow system at least in part on the basis of the information relating to ambient pressure.
