Front light having a plurality of prism-shaped lenses

A front light includes: a light source, a light guide plate, and a plurality of prism-shaped lenses, each being in contact with a lower surface of the light guide plate. A cross-section of each of the prism-shaped lenses, in a plane perpendicular to the side surfaces thereof, has a shape of equally-sided trapezoid. An obtuse angle Φout of the equally-sided trapezoidal cross-section and a critical angle θc for the total reflection of the prism-shaped lenses satisfy the relationship of 90°<Φ out≦90°+θc. When the light emitted from the light source enters the prism-shaped lens, the light is allowed to be reflected at a side surface defined by side-edges of the trapezoidal cross-section and thereafter exit through a lower surface. Thus, the light can illuminate pixel electrodes in a liquid crystal panel from a direction normal thereto.

Graphic-arts laser imaging with reduced-length laser cavities and improved performance

Cavity lasers exhibit a relatively high beam quality (e.g., M2<1.25) despite a relatively small cavity length (e.g., 50-53 mm) for a high (e.g., ≧10 watt) output power device. This enables the construction of physically smaller laser and optical assemblies without sacrificing performance. Reduction of optical photonic interference, which can impair imaging performance, is also facilitated. Laser and optical assemblies may utilize an aperture defined within an optical barrier element to reduce the divergence of the light beam emanating from a diode-pumping laser.

Method and system for the examination of specimen

The present invention provides, according to a first aspect, a method for the examination of specimen with a beam of charged particles. The method provides one or more images of the specimen made with different view angles, so that, compared to a single image of the specimen, a lot of additional information about the specimen can be accessed. The different view angles (angles of incidence) are achieved by tilting the beam between the two images and moving the specimen to a new position so that the displacement of the beam caused by the tilting of the beam is compensated. Accordingly, while displaying / recording the second image the beam scans over the same area as it has scanned while displaying / recording the first image.

Inoculation method for appraising sugarcane mosaic disease resistance

The invention provides an inoculation method for identifying the disease resistance to sugarcane mosaic virus. The method mainly comprises the following steps: inoculating virus source living bodies which propagate are stored on a sugarcane plant; before the inoculation, young disease leaves of the plant are cut into fine pieces, ground into a homogenate in the presence of a phosphate buffer solution and filtered with double-layer gauze to obtain a filtrate which is the virus inoculant; in a cool evening during the sugarcane growth period, the aerial part of the sugarcane plant are rapidly cut along the soil surface with a sharp blade or scissors, a drop of virus inoculant is sucked immediately with a dropper and dropped into the underground wound surface of the sugarcane so that the virus inoculant contacts with the wound surface and viruses invades the plant; and the wound surface is uncovered after being shaded for 24 hours. With the method, sugarcane mosaic virus after being inoculated develops remarkably and uniformly, the sensitivity is high, and the result stability is good. The method has the advantages that the process is simple, rapid, standardized and practical; the manual rubbing of sugarcane leaves is obviated, and the head scuffing is prevented so that the operability is higher and the inoculation efficiency is higher; and the identification result is closer to the field naturally-infected result so that the method is suitable for rapidly carrying out the identifying and the screening of mosaic virus resistance to large-scale material.

Microlithographic illumination method and a projection lens for carrying out the method

A microlithographic illumination method for imaging a pattern arranged in an object plane of a projection lens onto an image plane of the projection lens, under which a special means for optically correcting the optical path lengths of s-polarized and p-polarized light such that light beams of both polarizations will either traverse essentially the same optical path length between the object plane and the image plane or any existing difference in their optical path lengths will be retained, largely independently of their angles of incidence on the image plane, which will allow avoiding contrast variations due to pattern orientation when imaging finely structured patterns, is disclosed. The contrast variations may be caused by uncorrected projection lenses due to their employment of materials that exhibit stress birefringence and / or coated optical components, such as deflecting mirrors, that are used at large angles of incidence.
