Reduced length tissue shaping device

ActiveUS20050137685A1Maximize therapeutic effectReduction of mitral valve regurgitationHeart valvesCoronary sinusCatheter device
One aspect of the invention is a method of treating mitral valve regurgitation in a patient. The method includes the steps of delivering a tissue shaping device to the patient's coronary sinus in an unexpanded configuration within a catheter having an outer diameter no more than nine or ten french, with the tissue shaping device including a connector disposed between a distal expandable anchor comprising flexible wire and a proximal expandable anchor comprising flexible wire, the device having a length of 60 mm or less; and deploying the device to reduce mitral valve regurgitation, such as by anchoring the distal expandable anchor by placing the distal expandable anchor flexible wire in contact with a wall of the coronary sinus, e.g., by permitting the distal expandable anchor to self-expand or by applying an actuating force to the distal expandable anchor and possibly locking the distal expandable anchor after performing the applying step. The invention also includes a device for performing the method.

Percutaneous transmyocardial revascularization (PTMR) system

Percutaneous transmyocardial revascularizaton systems are disclosed for creating thin, linear incisions through the endocardium and partially into the myocardium. The systems mitigate the deficiencies of current approaches that position a distal tip channeling mechanism against the endocardial surface. The systems position a catheter body lengthwise along the endocardial surface and incorporate a cutting mechanism movable radially relative to the catheter body to create one or more elongate thin, linear incisions along one or more windows through the catheter body. Flexible support strands are used to urge each window into intimate contact with the endocardial surface. Each cutting element is adapted to protrude radially outward from the catheter body to contact tissue adjacent each window. The cutting mechanism incorporates a mechanical cutting element or an electrode designed to transmit direct current or radiofrequency energy into tissue to simultaneously cut and coagulate tissue. The catheter also can infuse a therapeutic agent directly into the incisions to encourage angiogenesis. The catheter also cuts thin, linear incisions capable of ablating arrhythmia substrates by disrupting electrical propagation through the affected myocardium.

Dynamic motion therapy apparatus having a treatment feedback indicator

An apparatus and method for providing treatment feedback relating to a patient undergoing therapeutic treatment of tissue during dynamic motion therapy are provided. The apparatus includes a platform configured to support a body of the patient; an oscillator connected to the platform and configured to impart an oscillating force at a predetermined frequency on the platform for transmitting mechanical vibration energy through the patient's body; and a processing device in operable communication with the platform for processing data related to the therapeutic treatment and for determining the amount of mechanical vibration energy transmitting through the patient's body. The apparatus further includes a treatment feedback indicator for indicating (e.g., displaying) the amount of mechanical vibration energy transmitting through the patient's body.
