The surgical tool portion has two rotating members disposed in opposing relation to each other. An aiming sight includes a controller, a power supply, an LED array, and a collimator. The power supply powers the LEDs to turn-on and turn-off, and powers the collimator to rotate. The LEDs are positioned such that one LED and the collimator are at a constant angle and separated by a constant focal distance for each collimator position. The controller controls the collimator to rotate to a collimator position to generate an aiming dot at an angular position corresponding to the collimator position. The controller turns-on the LED which is at the constant angle and separated from the collimator by the constant focal distance and turns-off the remaining LEDs such that the collimator collimates light from the turned-on LED into the aiming dot at the angular position corresponding to the collimator position.

Surface mounted and scanning spatially periodic eddy-current sensor arrays

Inductive sensors measure the near surface properties of conducting and magnetic material. A sensor may have primary windings with parallel extended winding segments to impose a spatially periodic magnetic field in a test material. Those extended portions may be formed by adjacent portions of individual drive coils. Sensing elements provided every other half wavelength may be connected together in series while the sensing elements in adjacent half wavelengths are spatially offset. Certain sensors include circular segments which create a circularly symmetric magnetic field that is periodic in the radial direction. Such sensors are particularly adapted to surround fasteners to detect cracks and can be mounted beneath a fastener head. In another sensor, sensing windings are offset along the length of parallel winding segments to provide material measurements over different locations when the circuit is scanned over the test material. The distance from the sensing elements to the ends of the primary winding may be kept constant as the offset space in between sensing elements is varied. An image of the material properties can be provided as the sensor is scanned across the material.

Thermally assisted magnetic recording device

There is provided a thermally assisted magnetic recording device capable of preventing collision between a thermally assisted magnetic recording head and a disk due to thermal deformation of a near-field transducer. The thermally assisted magnetic recording device includes a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature in the vicinity of the near-field transducer, a table that stores the relationship between temperature and deformation in the vicinity of the near-field transducer, and a control unit. The control unit calculates the deformation in the vicinity of the near-field transducer, from the temperature measured by the temperature sensor and the relationship between temperature and deformation stored in the table. Then, the control unit drives the flying height control actuator according to the calculated deformation to control the distance between the thermally assisted magnetic recording and the disk in order to avoid contact between them.

The light-emitting layer and the electrode which are formed over the spacer are irradiated with laser light through the coloring layer, so that at least the bonding layer among the light-emitting layer, the electrode, the coloring layer, and the bonding layer is melted to form a fixed portion where the bonding layer and the spacer are bonded by welding.
