1207 results about "Fft fast fourier transform" patented technology

The fast Fourier transform (FFT) is a discrete Fourier transform algorithm which reduces the number of computations needed for points from to , where lg is the base-2 logarithm. FFTs were first discussed by Cooley and Tukey (1965), although Gauss had actually described the critical factorization step as early as 1805 (Bergland 1969, Strang 1993).

Detecting Software Attacks By Monitoring Electric Power Consumption Patterns

Software attacks such as worms and viruses are detected in an electronic device by monitoring power consumption patterns. In a first embodiment, software attacks are detected by an increase in power consumption. The increased power consumption can be caused by increased network traffic, or by increased activity in the microprocessor. Monitoring power consumption is particularly effective for detecting DOS / flooding attacks when the electronic device is in an idle state. In a second embodiment, a power consumption signal is converted to the frequency domain (e.g., by fast Fourier transform). The highest amplitude frequencies are identified. Specific software attacks produce characteristic frequencies in the power consumption signal. Software attacks are therefore detected by matching the highest amplitude frequencies with frequencies associated with specific worms and viruses. Identification of a particular software attack typically requires matching of 3 or more of the highest amplitude frequencies, and, optionally, amplitude information.

Information-processing device and information-processing system

For an information terminal to be operated by users for collecting predetermined pieces of information from remote information devices by free-space optical communication, the present invention provides a technique for suppressing the power consumption of the information terminal by minimizing the amount of calculation performed to collect the aforementioned information. According to the present invention, each information device emits ID light on which a low-frequency pilot signal is superimposed. The information terminal captures a series of frames of images including the ID light and locates the ID light within the images by the following steps: (1) creating multiple levels of binned images having different resolutions for each frame of the image; (2) calculating an evaluation index for each pixel within a target range of the binned images at each level, from the lowest to the highest resolution, where the target range is narrowed every time the process switches over to a lower level. In (2), the evaluation index is calculated by an evaluation function including fast Fourier transformation performed throughout the series of frames of images. The evaluation index thus calculated is compared with a threshold to determine whether the pixel concerned is receiving ID light. The present technique significantly reduces the number of pixel to be analyzed and evaluated, thereby decreasing the total number of arithmetic operations to be performed using the evaluation function. Thus, the power consumption is suppressed.

Modulator, demodulator, and transmission system for use in OFDM transmission

An input of an OFDM signal containing known pilot carriers among given subcarriers is separated into subcarriers through Fourier transform in a fast Fourier transform unit. A data carrier phase error estimating unit obtains an amount of phase correction of each subcarrier on the basis of the pilot carriers in the separated subcarriers. A data carrier phase correcting unit corrects the phase of the separated subcarrier signal on the basis of the amount of phase correction. Thus, the phase errors of the subcarriers can be corrected and the OFDM symbols can be demodulated even if a frequency error and a timing error are occurring between the transmitter and receiver.

OFDM transceiver structure with time-domain scrambling

A method and transceiver for wireless multicarrier communications. At the transmitter side, conventional OFDM symbols, after inverse fast Fourier Transform, are scrambled in time domain and then guard-interval (GI) inserted, up-converted at the carrier frequency for transmission. At the receiver side, after GI removal and frequency domain channel equalization, the received signal is transformed into time-domain by inverse fast Fourier Transform. The time-domain equalized signal is descrambled in time domain and then transformed back to the frequency domain before it is rate-matched, demodulated and decoded. This time-domain scrambling and descrambling method can be used in a wireless OFDM system such as WLAN, cellular OFDM, and MC-CDMA.

Multi-path equalization for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication system

A multi-path equalization system for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication (OFDM) system includes a first estimator for estimating the channel characteristic using pilot signal. A divider is coupled to the estimator for dividing each sub-carrier with the channel characteristic to get the equalization to the data signal. A de-mapper uses the phase and amplitude correction of the channel estimate to recover the data signals. An improved channel estimation is provided by a repeat channel estimation feedback loop that includes the de-mapper a multiplier, an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), a low pass filter and a fast Fourier transform (FFT). The improved channel estimation is obtained by multiplying at the multiplier the conjugate of the de-mapped data to the input sub-carriers and applying inverse FFT, low pass filtering and FFT to get the new channel estimate. Each sub-carrier is divided with new channel characteristic to get new equalization to the data signal. The channel estimation is repeated until there is convergence. The output is provided after the de-mapper. In the case of channel decoding to improve performance a Viterbi decoder and convolutional encoder is coupled in loop between the de-mapper and the multiplier.

Sliding yardsticks fingerprint enrollment and verification system and method

A fast position tolerant and economical fingerprint verification algorithm and software implementation is disclosed. The algorithm has very important advantages in comparison to existing fingerprint verification algorithms like minutia extraction or full image analysis based on a series of two dimensional fast Fourier transforms (FFT's) and two dimensional cross correlation in speed, compactness of the biocript and finger positioning for verification. It is based on a small "yardstick" pattern being moved inside the image to be verified, and when a match is found the rest of the verification process is started. The software code implements the algorithm in the most efficient way for utilization on a digital signal processor architecture. A main area of application is in fingerprint identification and verification, but it could be implemented with same success in other image verification systems like iris, eye, face etc., where two images should be compared. The algorithm is adaptive, so various false acceptance and false rejection coefficients could be utilized very easily. It also produces a very compact biocript, which leads to better memory utilization in fingerprint databases.

Several techniques are disclosed for isolating either heart or breath rate data from a photoplethysmograph, which is a time domain signal such as from a pulse oximeter. The techniques involve the use of filtering in the frequency domain, after a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) has been conducted on a given photoplethysmograph also references as a given set of discrete time-domain data. The filtering may be applied to an identified fundamental frequency and one or more harmonics for heart related parameters. The filter may be truncated to the frequency data set and further applied multiple times to improve roll off. After filtering, an Inverse FFT (IFFT) is used to reconstruct the time-domain signal, except with undesirable frequency content eliminated or reduced. Calculation or measurement of parameters is then conducted on this reconstructed time-domain signal.

Correction of magnetic resonance images

Spatial encoding in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques is achieved by sampling the signal as a function of time in the presence of magnetic field gradients, e.g., X, Y, and Z gradients. The gradient magnets have in the past been assumed to generate a linear gradient, and typical image reconstruction techniques have relied upon this assumption. However, to achieve high speed performance, gradient magnets often sacrifice linearity for speed. This non-linearity, in turn, results in distorted images, the distortion often being sufficiently large to compromise the usefulness of MRI images for stereotaxy or longitudinal studies, where precise volumetric information is required. The disclosure provides practical methods for correcting distorted images resulting from such non-linearity in the gradient fields, as well as distortions resulting from translational, rotational, and / or winding / design errors in the field generating devices. The methods employ spherical harmonic expansions of the gradient fields and fast Fourier transform techniques to provide well-corrected images without undue computational burdens.
