3291 results about "Code word" patented technology

In communication, a code word is an element of a standardized code or protocol. Each code word is assembled in accordance with the specific rules of the code and assigned a unique meaning. Code words are typically used for reasons of reliability, clarity, brevity, or secrecy.

Self-clocking n,k code word without start or stop

A referenceless self-clocking (n,k) bar code word allows conveyance of information without the need of any start and / or stop code pattern or other reference; a code word pattern is repeated at least in part without space therebetween according to a given n,k coding convention so that any k pair of adjacent data code elements sensed by any sensing means according to the n,k coding convention will consist of n units (e.g., bar code modules), thus allowing the data code elements of the code word to be decoded most accurately without any reference pattern. One application of this coding is on round or cylindrical objects like coins, casino chips and the like, and this coding is also well suited for linear or other coding applications wanting to convey coded information without the use of a start / stop code or reference pattern using n,k coding. This coding may or mayn't include error control, for example, as disclosed herein.

Adaptive error correction codes for data storage systems

ActiveUS20140115427A1Error detection/correctionUnequal/adaptive error protectionConcatenated error correction codeData encoding
A data storage system configured to adaptively code data is disclosed. In one embodiment, a data storage system controller determines a common memory page size, such as an E-page size, for a non-volatile memory array. Based on the common memory page size, the controller selects a low-density parity-check (LDPC) code word length from a plurality of pre-defined LDPC code word lengths. The controller determines LDPC coding parameters for coding data written to or read from the memory array based on the selected LDPC code word length. By using the plurality of pre-defined LDPC code word lengths, the data storage system can support multiple non-volatile memory page formats, including memory page formats in which the common memory page size does not equal any LDPC code word length of the plurality of pre-defined LDPC code word lengths. Flexibility and efficiency of data coding can thereby be achieved.

Disk drive employing error threshold counters to generate an ECC error distribution

A disk drive is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a disk. A redundancy generator generates a plurality of redundancy symbols appended to user data to form a codeword C(x) written to a selected data sector on the disk. During a read operation, a syndrome generator generates a plurality of error syndromes in response to a received codeword C′(x) generated by reading the selected data sector. An error detector, responsive to the error syndromes, detects a number of errors in the received codeword C′(x), and a plurality of counters count a number of times the number of errors falls within a predetermined plurality of ranges to thereby provide a distribution of the errors. The error distribution is used, for example, for selecting a track density or ECC depth, or for failure prediction or defect mapping.

Soft bit data transmission for error correction control in non-volatile memory

Data stored in non-volatile storage is decoded using iterative probabilistic decoding. An error correcting code such as a low density parity check code may be used. In one approach, initial reliability metrics, such as logarithmic likelihood ratios, are used in decoding sensed states of a set of non-volatile storage element. The decoding attempts to converge by adjusting the reliability metrics for bits in code words which represent the sensed state. Soft data bits are read from the memory if the decoding fails to converge. Initial reliability metric values are provided after receiving the hard read results and at each phase of the soft bit operation(s). In one embodiment, a second soft bit is read from the memory using multiple subsets of soft bit compare levels. While reading at the second subset of compare levels, decoding can be performed based on the first subset data.

Data detection and decoding system and method

A data detection and decoding system includes a SOVA channel detector that uses single parity (SOVASP) to improve the accuracy with which the detector estimates bits. Each column or row read back from the read channel constitutes a code word and each code word is encoded to satisfy single parity. Because the SOVASP channel detector detects whether each code word satisfies single parity, it is unnecessary to use both a column decoder and a row decoder in the channel decoder. Either the row decoder or the column decoder can be eliminated depending on whether bits are read back on a column-by-column basis or on a row-by-row basis. This reduction in components reduces hardware complexity and improves system performance. The output of the row or column decoder is received by a second detector that processes the output received from the decoder to recover the original information bits.

Simplified decoding using structured and punctured LDPC codes

A communications transceiver for transmitting and receiving coded communications, with the coding corresponding to a low-density parity check code, is disclosed. A set of available code word lengths and code rates are to be supported by the transceiver. These available code word lengths and code rates are implemented as a subset of starting code word lengths, which are length-reduced by shortening and puncturing selected bit positions in the starting code word length to attain the desired one of the available code word lengths and code rates. The bit positions to be shortened and punctured are selected in a manner that avoids interference between the shortened and punctured bit positions, and that attains excellent code performance.

Method for decoding data in non-volatile storage using reliability metrics based on multiple reads

Data stored in non-volatile storage is decoded using iterative probabilistic decoding and multiple read operations to achieve greater reliability. An error correcting code such as a low density parity check code may be used. In one approach, initial reliability metrics, such as logarithmic likelihood ratios, are used in decoding read data of a set of non-volatile storage element. The decoding attempts to converge by adjusting the reliability metrics for bits in code words which represent the sensed state. If convergence does not occur, e.g., within a set time period, the state of the non-volatile storage element is sensed again, current values of the reliability metrics in the decoder are adjusted, and the decoding again attempts to converge. In another approach, the initial reliability metrics are based on multiple reads. Tables which store the reliability metrics and adjustments based on the sensed states can be prepared before decoding occurs.

Linear turbo equalization using despread values

A linear turbo-equalizer for use in a CDMA receiver equalizes a despread received signal (rather than the spread received signal) to suppress self-interference resulting from coupling between transmitted symbols. In an example implementation, a linear equalizer based on a generalized-Rake (G-Rake) receiver design uses decoder feedback in forming Rake combining weights as well as in forming a self-interference estimate removed from the equalizer signal provided to the decoder. Preferably, turbo de-coding is also performed. In that case, each turbo-decoder component preferably executes one pass before feeding back information to the equalizer. This ensures that the turbo-decoder does not prematurely lock onto an incorrect code word before feeding back extrinsic information to the equalizer.

Multiwire group signaling using vector signaling codes simultaneously transmits encoded values on multiple wires, requiring multiple receive signals to be sampled simultaneously to retrieve the full transmitted code word. By misaligning transitions on multiple wires, skew introduces a transient common mode signal component that is preserved by using frequency-selective common mode feedback at the receiver to obtain accurate sampling results.

Feedback to support restrictive reuse

The scheduler in a base station needs CQI information from a terminal for all re-use sets every 5 ms. to decide on which re-use set to schedule a given terminal. For MIMO users, the problem is that the CQI cannot be reconstructed for all re-use sets, using the current design. Solution: (1) For Multiple Code Word MIMO users, a MIMO VCQI connection layer message enables the base station to reconstruct the MIMO-CQI for all reuse sets on a packet-by-packet basis. This will enable dynamic scheduling (RESTRICTIVE REUSE) gains. (2) For Single Code Word users, dynamic RESTRICTIVE REUSE can be obtained by changing the CQI reporting format, and also sending a MIMO-VCQI connection layer message. (3) For Single Code Word design, quasi-static scheduling gains can be obtained by sending a MIMO-VCQI connection layer message.
