A data storage system configured to adaptively code data is disclosed. In one embodiment, a data storage system controller determines a common memory page size, such as an E-page size, for a non-volatile memory array. Based on the common memory page size, the controller selects a low-density parity-check (LDPC) code word length from a plurality of pre-defined LDPC code word lengths. The controller determines LDPC coding parameters for coding data written to or read from the memory array based on the selected LDPC code word length. By using the plurality of pre-defined LDPC code word lengths, the data storage system can support multiple non-volatile memory page formats, including memory page formats in which the common memory page size does not equal any LDPC code word length of the plurality of pre-defined LDPC code word lengths. Flexibility and efficiency of data coding can thereby be achieved.

Gigabit ethernet performance monitoring

A method for analyzing Gigabit Ethernet (GBE) and fiber channel protocol communications is provided which provides a more detailed understanding of the errors, than that provided under the IEEE 802.3z standard. The method creates an additional parity error signal which is not specified under the IEEE 802.3z standard. The parity error signals and IEEE 802.3z invalid code word signals are used to provide an analysis of whether the underlying communication errors are a result of 8B / 10B coding word errors or running disparity errors. A system and apparatus to monitor performance in accordance with the above-mentioned method is also provided.

The DCI sending method can be used for enhancing the efficiency of the uplink transmission.

Disclosed is a method and communication device for suppressing interference. The method comprises performing, with a turbo decoder (314), at least one turbo decoding attempt (1106) on a received signal (1104). The turbo decoding attempt generates at least one whole word code bit therefrom (1108). The whole word code bit (1108) corresponds to a group of bits comprising a transmitted symbol. The method determines if the whole word code bit (1108) has a confidence level exceeding a given threshold (1110). If the whole word code bit (1108) does have a confidence level exceeding the given threshold, the whole code word bit is selected for use in data symbol recovery (1114).

Continuous-time linear equalization of received signals on multiple wire channels while maintaining accurate common mode signal values. Multiwire group signaling using vector signaling codes simultaneously transmits encoded values on multiple wires, requiring multiple receive signals to be sampled simultaneously to retrieve the full transmitted code word. By misaligning transitions on multiple wires, skew introduces a transient common mode signal component that is preserved by using frequency-selective common mode feedback at the receiver to obtain accurate sampling results.

The scheduler in a base station needs CQI information from a terminal for all re-use sets every 5 ms. to decide on which re-use set to schedule a given terminal. For MIMO users, the problem is that the CQI cannot be reconstructed for all re-use sets, using the current design. Solution: (1) For Multiple Code Word MIMO users, a MIMO VCQI connection layer message enables the base station to reconstruct the MIMO-CQI for all reuse sets on a packet-by-packet basis. This will enable dynamic scheduling (RESTRICTIVE REUSE) gains. (2) For Single Code Word users, dynamic RESTRICTIVE REUSE can be obtained by changing the CQI reporting format, and also sending a MIMO-VCQI connection layer message. (3) For Single Code Word design, quasi-static scheduling gains can be obtained by sending a MIMO-VCQI connection layer message.

Method and apparatus for run length limited TMDS-like encoding of data

A serial data transmission system in which a transmitter encodes data in accordance with a TMDS-like encoding algorithm and transmits the TMDS-like encoded data over a serial link to a receiver. The encoded data are transmitted as a run length limited (“RLL”) code word sequence, including transition-minimized code words. In some embodiments, the RLL code word sequence includes only Min words, including both DC balancing Min words and DC unbalancing Min words. In other embodiments, the RLL code word sequence includes both transition-maximized code words and transition-minimized code words. Other aspects of the invention are circuitry and methods for TMDS-like encoding of data for transmission as an RLL code word sequence.
