A system and method for managing the workflow for processing Service Orders among a variety of organizations within a telecommunications company. The system and method coordinates all of the tasks and activities related to order processing among the various entities within the telecommunications company. Workflows are used to model business procedures used for processing Service Orders. Each workflow comprises a plurality of workflow steps. Business process models are depicted as workflow diagrams. Upon receipt of a Service Order, an appropriate Work Plan is selected based on information within the Service Order. Each workflow step is assigned a Resource and is scheduled for completion. The Workflow steps are then placed in In-boxes associated with the selected Resource. Once the processing steps have been scheduled, a current work step is calculated. Notification messages are sent to the appropriate systems to notify them to begin activity associated with the current work step. The system is automatically notified when the current work step is complete, so that the next work step can be processed in a similar fashion. Detailed statistical information is maintained for audit and reporting purposes. Users log-on to remote workstations coupled with a company-wide Intranet or the like. From the remote workstations, users from various organizations view their In-boxes and other detailed information about Service Orders according to selectable requests. Workflow steps can be transferred and re-assigned using the remote workstations. Detailed statistical information is maintained for audit and reporting purposes. Reports reflecting the effectiveness of workforce management and work administration is obtained.

A workflow server can receive requests, each for a business process workflow conforming to a business process model. Each business process workflow can include a set of interdependent tasks. The workflow server can satisfy received requests by assigning tasks to different service providers that provide software services. Each of the tasks can be assigned to corresponding ones of the software services. For each task, the workflow server can also defines an allocated cost per software service, and a time allocation per software service for completing the corresponding one of the tasks. Work plans comprising a plurality of Workflow steps and associated data and are derived from information found in the Workflow diagrams. Upon receipt of a Service Order, an appropriate work plan is selected based on information within the Service Order. Each Workflow step is assigned a resource and is scheduled for completion with a start and a stop date and placed in the in-boxes associated with the selected resource. In accordance with one such method, the event type and the activity are tokenized by determining event tokens for event type labels in the event type and determining activity tokens for activity labels in the activity. In addition, a score matrix is generated for pairs of the event tokens and the activity tokens indicating a degree of similarity between the event token and the activity token in each of the pairs. The method also includes determining whether the event type and the activity are correlated by determining scores of the pairs of event tokens and activity tokens that are ranked highest in said score matrix. Methods and systems for integrating process perspectives and abstraction levels into business process modeling are described. In one example embodiment, modeling business processes for an enterprise can include selecting a segmented view of an enterprise meta-model. The segmented view is associated with a business process to be modeled. The enterprise meta-model is a machine-readable representation of business rules and policies for the enterprise. A business process model is created using a set of visual modeling tools, which are limited by the segmented view. A business policy having some relevance to the process being modeled can be selected for annotation to the business process. Once completed, the business process model is transformed into a machine-readable representation and stored in a repository.

In an exemplary embodiment of a method of executing business processes via a computer network, the method comprises the steps of creating and installing software resources available over a network, browsing a database of software resources using a process model builder to identify software resource definitions, loading the software resource definitions identified by the process model builder to create a business process model comprising the software resources from the database of software resources, mapping inputs and outputs of the database of software resources to allow the business process model to be executed, saving the business process model on a storage medium accessible by the network, and initiating a collaborative business process by loading the business process model into a process interpreter and executing the software resources defined within the business process model.

A modelling system to provide a computer based business process for an enterprise, allows the enterprise to input values for a plurality of non functional requirements (760) for the deployment, and allows at least some of the values to be varied independently of others of the values, and creates a design of software application components (770) and a design of computing infrastructure (780), for running the software application components, so that the business process operates according to the values input for the non functional requirements of the business process. By modelling the underlying computing infrastructure, it becomes feasible to create models with greater certainty that they will deploy successfully, and with greater predictability of how well they will meet given non functional requirements. This enables more freedom to be allowed to vary the values of these non functional requirements and get greater customisation to suit the needs of the enterprise.

A business process modeling framework is used for data quality analysis. The modeling framework represents the sources of transactions entering the information processing system, the various tasks within the process that manipulate or transform these transactions, and the data repositories in which the transactions are stored or aggregated. A subset of these tasks is associated as the potential error introduction sources, and the rate and magnitude of various error classes at each such task are probabilistically modeled. This model can be used to predict how changes in transactions volumes and business processes impact data quality at the aggregate level in the data repositories. The model can also account for the presence of error correcting controls and assess how the placement and effectiveness of these controls alter the propagation and aggregation of errors. Optimization techniques are used for the placement of error correcting controls that meet target quality requirements while minimizing the cost of operating these controls. This analysis also contributes to the development of business “dashboards” that allow decision-makers to monitor and react to key performance indicators (KPIs) based on aggregation of the transactions being processed. Data quality estimation in real time provides the accuracy of these KPIs (in terms of the probability that a KPI is above or below a given value), which may condition the action undertaken by the decision-maker.
