A business object is an entity within a multitiered software application that works in conjunction with the data access and business logic layers to transport data. For example, a "Manager" would be a business object where its attributes can be "Name", "Second name", "Age", "Area", "Country" and it could hold an 1-n association with its employees (a collection of Employee instances).

Multi-object fetch component

A system, method, and article of manufacture are provided for retrieving multiple business objects across a network in one access operation. A business object and a plurality of remaining objects are provided on a persistent store. Upon receiving a request for the business object, it is established which of the remaining objects are related to the business object. The related objects and the business object are retrieved from the persistent store in one operation and it is determined how the retrieved related objects relate to the business object and each other. A graph of relationships of the business and related objects is instantiated in memory.

Method and apparatus for an improved security system mechanism in a business applications management system platform

The present invention provides a solution to the needs described above through an improved method and apparatus for an improved security system mechanism in a business applications management system platform. The security management system partitions a number of business objects into a number of hierarchical domains. A security list is then created and configured to grant a member the right to perform a security operation on the business object located within the hierarchical domain. The security list is created by adding the security operation to the security list, applying the security operation to one of the multiple domains, and adding members to the security list.

Business application development and execution environment

A business application development environment and a corresponding business application execution environment is disclosed. A graphical user interface based Workflow Designer allows a user to easily create business applications graphically. The business applications are converted into the Business Process Modeling Language (BPML). Existing BPML applications may also be edited with the graphical user interface BMPL designer of the present invention. Created business applications (that are represented in BPML) can then be hosted on any XML based web services server system. Business applications generally operate on business objects. The objects allow for fields to include functions that combine other fields. Once an application has been designed, the BPML code may be executed using a BPML execution engine. The BPML execution engine executes the BPML based applications. One embodiment interprets BPML applications with an interpreter in the execution engine. Another embodiment compiles the BPML applications into directly executable code.

Command line interface for creating business objects for accessing a hierarchical database

A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for generating class specifications for an object-oriented application that accesses a hierarchical database. The class specifications are generated using a command line interface of a class definition tool. A database description and a record layout associated with the hierarchical database are captured and associated to define a specification for the database. Class definitions are then generated from the database specification, wherein the class definitions are instantiated as objects in the objects framework that encapsulate data retrieved from the database.

Method and apparatus for generating consistent user interfaces

A method is disclosed for generating a consistent user interface for an HTML-based application program, without extensive coding of Java Server Pages and other elements. In one approach, business objects each define a user action for the application program, and metadata elements defining parameters for the user actions of the business object. A controller is communicatively coupled to one or more actions, widgets, and panels. A user request is received from a browser and dispatched to one or the actions. Using the actions, one or more parameter values are obtained from the business objects. The business object parameter values are associated with a widget selected from among the one or more widgets. The selected widget is associated with a panel selected from the one or more panels. An HTML user interface page that includes the selected panel is generated. The widgets represent properties of the business objects as HTML elements, automatically generate client-side executable code for performing data validation, and convert values received in users requests into programmatic objects of appropriate data types for use by the application program.

Document management using business objects

A computer-implemented method for processing information includes collecting data objects from one or more data repositories, the data objects having respective properties, which identify the data objects. The properties of the collected data objects are analyzed in order to derive respective identifiers corresponding to the data objects. A text string that matches one of the identifiers of a data object is identified within a context in a document. Responsively to the context, an indication that the identified text string is a valid instance of the data object is generated, and the document is processed responsively to the indication.
