3422 results about "Data migration" patented technology

Data migration is the process of selecting, preparing, extracting, and transforming data and permanently transferring it from one computer storage system to another. Additionally, the validation of migrated data for completeness and the decommissioning of legacy data storage are considered part of the entire data migration process. Data migration is a key consideration for any system implementation, upgrade, or consolidation, and it is typically performed in such a way as to be as automated as possible, freeing up human resources from tedious tasks. Data migration occurs for a variety of reasons, including server or storage equipment replacements, maintenance or upgrades, application migration, website consolidation, disaster recovery, and data center relocation.

Backup mechanism for a multi-class file system

System and method for performing backups of a multi-class file system are described. In one embodiment, more recently modified data may be assigned and / or migrated to higher storage classes and less recently modified data may be migrated at time intervals to lower storage classes in the multi-class file system. Backups of each of the storage classes may be performed at time intervals. In one embodiment, the backups may be image-based backups of the storage devices in the storage classes. In one embodiment, the lower storage classes may include one or more read-only storage classes including less-recently modified data that are backed up less frequently than higher storage classes including more-recently modified data. In one embodiment, files migrated to lower storage class(es) may be compressed.

Computer system with transparent data migration between storage volumes

A computer system includes a transparent data migration facility (TDNff) to accomplish automated movement of data (migration) from one location to another in the system. A data migration program includes a main module to control the start of a migration session when said application programs are using data accessed to and from the source volume, to migrate data from the source volume to the target volume, and to end the migration session whereby the application programs are using data accessed to and from the target volume. The data migration program includes a volume module to control the volumes during the migration session. The data migration program includes a copy module to control the copying of data from the source module to the target module during the migration session. The data migration program includes a monitor module for monitoring I/O transfers to the data volumes during the migration sessions. The computer system may have a plurality of operating systems associated with instances of the data migration program which allows for concurrent data migrations. The plurality of instances of the data migration program may also be controlled in a master slave relationship. A migration session may include a plurality of migration phases such as activation, copy, refresh, quiesce, synchronize, redirect, resume and termination phases.

Remote disaster recovery and data migration using virtual appliance migration

A technique efficiently creates and serves a backup data set on a backup filer located at a remote site from a primary filer by essentially moving an entire operating environment of a primary data set to the backup filer. The primary filer is organized into one or more virtual filers (vfilers), one of which (the primary vfiler) is configured to serve data, such as the primary data set, for a client. In the event that the primary filer or primary vfiler becomes unavailable, the technique may be implemented as a disaster recovery or data migration sequence to enable efficient instantiation of a backup vfiler to serve the backup data set for the client.

Apparatus and method for data virtualization in a storage processing device

A system including a storage processing device with an input/output module. The input/output module has port processors to receive and transmit network traffic. The input/output module also has a switch connecting the port processors. Each port processor categorizes the network traffic as fast path network traffic or control path network traffic. The switch routes fast path network traffic from an ingress port processor to a specified egress port processor. The storage processing device also includes a control module to process the control path network traffic received from the ingress port processor. The control module routes processed control path network traffic to the switch for routing to a defined egress port processor. The control module is connected to the input/output module. The input/output module and the control module are configured to interactively support data virtualization, data migration, data journaling, and snapshotting. The distributed control and fast path processors achieve scaling of storage network software. The storage processors provide line-speed processing of storage data using a rich set of storage-optimized hardware acceleration engines. The multi-protocol switching fabric provides a low-latency, protocol-neutral interconnect that integrally links all components with any-to-any non-blocking throughput.

Apparatus and method for dynamically auditing data migration to produce metadata

A computer readable medium includes executable instructions to audit data migration. The executable instructions include instructions to define a data migration path from a source to a target. Audit points are specified within the data migration path. Audit statistics to be generated at the audit points are identified. The audit statistics including data corresponding to individual data values transmitted over the data migration path. Audit rules to be applied against the audit statistics are established.
