A system incorporates notification aspects of a presence system with content distribution capabilities of a content delivery network to both notify subscribers of the presence of content from a host and provide relatively fast and efficient delivery of the content to the user. A content host provides content, such as streaming audio or video media, to a content delivery network. The content host also provides notification of the availability of the content to a central site or presence server. A subscriber to the content host receives, from the presence server, notification as to the availability of content by the content host. The subscriber also receives notification as to the location of the content in the content delivery network. Based upon the notification, the subscriber retrieves the content from the content delivery network.

System, method and program for migrating files retrieved from over a network to secondary storage

Disclosed is a system, method, and program for caching files retrieved from a server over a network. A computer system receives a request from a requesting computer system for a file maintained on the server. The computer system is capable of communicating with the server via the network. The computer system retrieves the requested file from the server over the network and stores a copy of the requested file in a primary storage. The computer system further returns another copy of the requested file to the requesting computer system. The computer system determines retrieved files to migrate from the primary storage to a secondary storage and migrates the determined retrieved files from the primary storage to the secondary storage. To determine the files to migrate from primary storage to secondary storage, the computer system may determine a distribution of file requests per unit of time according to file size for files maintained in the primary storage and the secondary storage. The computer system then processes the determined distribution and a provided maximum number of file requests per unit of time to determine a minimum file size for migration. Files having a size greater than the minimum file size for migration are migrated from the primary storage device to the secondary storage device.

In an embodiment, the method comprises receiving a social network user context associated with a user of the social network; generating, through a semantic operation, an interest network based on the user context information; and filtering, ranking or augmenting, using at least one processor executing stored program instructions, a retrieval of information related to the social network based on the interest network; wherein the interest network comprises concepts represented by a data structure associated with the concepts in the interest network. In another embodiment, the method further comprises representing the interest network as an interest graph. In yet another embodiment, the semantic operation is a synthesis operation or retrieval operation performed on a knowledge representation.
