1092 results about "Social network" patented technology

A social network is a social structure made up of a set of social actors (such as individuals or organizations), sets of dyadic ties, and other social interactions between actors. The social network perspective provides a set of methods for analyzing the structure of whole social entities as well as a variety of theories explaining the patterns observed in these structures. The study of these structures uses social network analysis to identify local and global patterns, locate influential entities, and examine network dynamics.

System, method and apparatus for connecting users in an online computer system based on their relationships within social networks

A method and apparatus for calculating, displaying and acting upon relationships in a social network is described. A computer system collects descriptive data about various individuals and allows those individuals to indicate other individuals with whom they have a personal relationship. The descriptive data and the relationship data are integrated and processed to reveal the series of social relationships connecting any two individuals within a social network. The pathways connecting any two individuals can be displayed. Further, the social network itself can be displayed to any number of degrees of separation. A user of the system can determine the optimal relationship path (i.e., contact pathway) to reach desired individuals. A communications tool allows individuals in the system to be introduced (or introduce themselves) and initiate direct communication.

System and method for home energy monitor and control

The invention generally concerns systems and methods for monitoring and controlling the power consumption of a power-consuming device. The system and method may connect to a power source and a power-consuming device, connecting the power-consuming device to the power source. The power usage of the power-consuming device may then be measured and monitored. This monitoring data may then be stored and optionally sent to a controlling device on a data network. The location of the power-consuming device may also be determined, recorded, and sent to a controlling device. The system may also control the power usage of the power-consuming device. In some cases, a remote server may connect multiple energy monitoring systems in order to gain additional efficiencies and foster a community-based social network.

Method and systems for online advertising to users using fictitious user idetities

Various methods, systems and apparatus for associating fictitious user identities (e.g. screen names, user names, email addresses, handles, etc.) used in electronic communications (e.g. over the internet or mobile network via instant messenger, e-mail, social networks, ecommerce, auction websites, etc.) with real personal information (e.g. the true identity of an individual such as their name, address, credit score, driving record, mobile number, etc.) are disclosed. One such method may include discovering, verifying and storing real personal information, associated with fictitious user identities and email addresses. The method may further include allowing a remote user or service to submit a fictitious user identity and a query requesting real-user information associated with the submitted fictitious user identity. In one possible embodiment, a targeted-advertising service may utilize real user information, associated with a fictitious user name, to target advertisements at the user of the fictitious user name.

Method of and system for creating, maintaining, and utilizing an online universal address book

A method for creating and maintaining a social network system using a computer system includes constructing a first database for storing identification information and a second database for storing contact information of a user, the second database being connected to the first database; receiving registration from users in the computer system, the registration containing identification and contact information of the users; sending invitation initiated by a first user to a second user specified by the first user; if the second user accepts the invitation, creating a direct link between these two users, the direct link allowing the two users to access the other's contact information. The method may further include creating an address book containing identification information and contact information of users that are directly connected to a user A for the user A. Any amendment of the information of a user initiated by the user who is directly connected to user A will be reflected in user A's address book. The invention also provides a computer system for implementing the method for creating and maintaining the social network system.

Algorithms for identity anonymization on graphs

InactiveUS20090303237A1Preserving individual privacy and basic structure of networkDrawing from basic elementsTransmissionGraphicsRe identification
The proliferation of network data in various application domains has raised privacy concerns for the individuals involved. Recent studies show that simply removing the identities of the nodes before publishing the graph / social network data does not guarantee privacy. The structure of the graph itself, and in is basic form the degree of the nodes, can be revealing the identities of individuals. To address this issue, a specific graph-anonymization framework is proposed. A graph is called k-degree anonymous if for every node v, there exist at least k−1 other nodes in the graph with the same degree as v. This definition of anonymity prevents the re-identification of individuals by adversaries with a priori knowledge of the degree of certain nodes. Given a graph G, the proposed graph-anonymization problem asks for the k-degree anonymous graph that stems from G with the minimum number of graph-modification operations. Simple and efficient algorithms are devised for solving this problem, wherein these algorithms are based on principles related to the realizability of degree sequences.

Systems and methods for delivery of an item

Generally, embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods that can identify the location of a consignee and propose one or more alternative delivery location(s). The proposed delivery location may be based on the current location of the consignee, current address on the package to be delivered, information located in a social network (private or public), “to-be” location as determined by the consignee which would be transmitted to the carrier and / or a predicted consignee location. In other embodiments, the consignee or “carrier” may suggest an alternative fixed location or alternative mobile location. In some embodiments, the consignee may indicate an alternative recipient of the item.

Analysis, Inference, and Visualization of Social Networks

A method and system for automated generation of social networks. A graphical user interface receives a user query for an entity of interest, and outputs a graphical network showing entities and associations related to the entity of interest. A search engine interface transmits the query to a search engine, and receives references to documents. A named entity extractor downloads a selection of the documents, and generates a list of named entities referenced in the downloaded documents. A network inference module receives each list of named entities, and generates associations between the named entities in each list. An entity matcher operates on the associations to consolidate them in instances wherein differently named entities are determined to be the same named entity, and provides a consolidated list of named entities and associations to the user interface for display as a graphical network.

Method and apparatus for collecting and storing information about individuals in a social network. A member account is created by verifying a user's identity and collecting user identity data from the user. The user sends an invitation to one or more members or non-members. The one or more members or non-members can accept or decline the user's invitation. If the one or more non-members accept or decline, they must create a member account. The one or more members post paid comments or free comments about the user and one or more user weight values are calculated based on one or more of the following: a number of members in a user's group and their one or more user weight values, a total value of posted paid comments about the user and volume of posted comments about the user. The user can post a reply to the posted comment by the one or more members.

Targeting users based on categorical content interactions

During a targeting technique, a machine model is generated based on content-interaction data that specifies interactions of users of a social network, with categorical content corresponding to predefined interest segments. The content-interaction data may include viewing of the categorical content and sharing of the categorical content with other users of the social network. This machine-learning model is then used to calculate scores for the users based on the attributes in their profiles that indicate probabilities of their interest in additional categorical content. Moreover, based on the calculated scores, a subset of the users is associated with an interest segment. For example, the users may be ranked based on their calculated scores, and the subset may be those users having scores exceeding a threshold or a predefined value. Furthermore, advertisements may be targeted to the users in the subset based on the association with the interest segment.
