System and method for transmission of medical and like data from a patient to a dedicated internet website

InactiveUS7082334B2Improve mobilitySafe interconnectionElectrotherapyArtificial respirationWeb siteImplanted pacemaker
The invention provides a system and method for easy and reliable connection of patient-originated medical data through a simple port of a computer to a dedicated web site. A device originating medical data, such as an implanted pacemaker, downloads data into a transmit / receive device, and the data is then transformed in an interface unit to be accepted by a simple port of a computer, e.g. a keyboard port or a mouse port. The patient logs on to a dedicated web site, and transfers the data along with typed input to the web site for analysis. Following analysis, a reply message is sent back to the patient, which may include a control instruction for modifying or reprogramming the operation of the device that is used to originate the medical data. For a pacemaker application, the data transformation is done at a simple interface unit that is portable and easily manipulated by the patient. For other applications such as monitoring data from a diabetic, the data is transformed by the interface unit, and may be stored daily in the PC and transmitted to the web site after collection of a predetermined number of days of data.

Electronically agile dual beam antenna system

The present invention provides an improved antenna system that, in one embodiment, includes an antenna array comprised of a plurality of elements, each of which is capable of providing a signal. Also included in the improved antenna system is a multi-beam beamformer for producing two spatially independent overlapping beams from the signals provided by two different subsets of the antenna array. The phase of the two beams is compared to realize an interferometer that can provide high or fine resolution data on the position of an object relative to the antenna system. The amplitude of the two beams can also be compared to obtain coarse data on the position of the object. The beamformer includes a switching network for selecting which elements of the antenna array form the two subsets. This permits, for example, the position of the beams to moved, the baseline of the two beams to be varied, and / or the beam width of the beams to be altered. To reduce adverse aerodynamic effects in certain applications, the antenna array is located conformal to the exterior surface of the body on which the array is mounted. Further, to reduce temperature related problems associated with high speed movement of the body on which the array is located, the array is located on the side of the body, as opposed to the front of the body. The side location also provides space for other types of sensors that are preferably located adjacent to the front surface of the body.

Communication system, digital camera and docking apparatus

Wireless communications between a digital camera and a printer dock are established in a simple manner. A processor (10f) of a digital camera (10) detects a printer dock (12) within communication range via a communications circuit (10e) and its ID is acquired. The processor (10f) uses the acquired ID to transmit a sequential power transmit request to the printer dock (12). In response to this request, the printer dock (12) wirelessly transmits power from a communications circuit (12b) and a transmitting coil (12c). When power is received by a receiving coil (10a), it specifies that printer dock (12) is the communication party, and photographed data is wirelessly transmitted using an ID of the specified printer dock (12).

Stapling device and method

Medical devices and related methods for closing a perforation in a bodily wall are provided. The medical device generally includes an introducer device having a base defining a plurality of recesses formed therein. Visceral staples are disposed within the recesses in a delivery state and are biased toward a deployed state. A holding mechanism retains the staples in the delivery state, and the holding mechanism is moveable relative to the base to allow the staples to extend out of the recesses. The biased nature of the staples will cause them to transition into the deployed state after the staples have been released, such that the staples will thereby pierce adjacent tissue and remain closed. The holding mechanism can be retractable or pivotable out of engagement with the staples. The introducer device can include upper and lower jaws or a slidable cover relative to the base.

Beverage dispenser having selectable temperature

The present invention dispenses hot coffee or other beverage by the cup at a selected temperature, which can be varied from cup-to-cup. The beverage is brewed in a conventional way, and in one embodiment is stored in a conventional holding tank at elevated temperature. The holding tank communicates with two smaller reservoirs. A quantity of beverage is stored in a first reservoir at an elevated temperature, at or above the maximum desired dispensing temperature. A second quantity of beverage is cooled and stored in a second reservoir at a lower temperature, at or below the minimum desired dispensing temperature. When a cup of beverage is to be dispensed, the temperature is selected, and a quantity of beverage is dispensed from each of the reservoirs, proportioned so that the resulting dispensed beverage is at the selected temperature. In another embodiment, the first reservoir is omitted, and beverage from the holding tank provides the elevated temperature beverage for mixing. In several other embodiments, no cooling mechanism is needed. Instead, the holding tank is at a cooler temperature than the lowest vend temperature, and the beverage must be heated to the hot reservoir temperature and, in one embodiment, the cold reservoir temperature. In another embodiment, the holding tank functions as a cold reservoir. In still another embodiment requiring no heaters, the holding tank is eliminated, and the beverage is held in insulated chambers at the higher and lower temperatures.

Two-dimensional touch panel

A capacitive touch panel is provided capable of detecting multiple simultaneous touches. The touch panel delivers sets of capacitance signal values to a processor which computes the coordinates of single or multiple touch locations on the touch panel. The processing of each set is performed by (i) identifying the sensing element having the largest capacitance signal value; (ii) defining a region around that sensing element; and (iii) repeating the process iteratively, wherein each subsequent identifying step excludes signals that lie in previously defined regions. A multi-touch sensor is thus provided in which the signal processing is based on successive definition of regions or sub-blocks in the touch: panel. The touch location in each region can be determined more accurately by then applying interpolation between the adjacent signal values. This allows for position resolution at a finer scale than that defined by the touch panel's electrode patterning.

Coordination system

A peer-to-peer coordination system of distributed programs, services, and data is provided in a computer network where coordination servers run and serves local software systems. Some shared objects are communication objects to exchange messages and transactions. Only processes in reference to a communication object (administrated by replication strategies) are granted access via the local coordination server. The local software systems are capable of controlling transactions; creating, reading, and writing of communication objects; creating and supervising uniquely identified processes. Coordination servers have identical basic functionality for distributed object, transaction and process management, and taken together, form a global operating system. The network operates like a single global super computer and new processes and sites are dynamically added. The updateable objects has a non-resettable logical time stamp, is capable of storing data, and are coordinated by an optimistic concurrency control without utilizing explicit locks on the objects. The updateable object data is writeable on distributed peer nodes.

A method of configuring power tool electronics in a hand-held power tool (10) having sensor means (20) for acquiring measurement data, a control unit (50) for processing measurement data and for controlling power tool functions, and a data transmission unit (30), includes transmitting data between the data transmission unit (30) and an evaluation location (62) by means of a mobile wireless network, with the power tool electronics being awakened from a quiescent mode (70) and activated at a time stored as a time parameter in a control program, retrieving a configuration file provided by the evaluation location (62) by the data transmission unit (30) via the mobile wireless network, and checking the response received from the mobile wireless network to determine whether or not it contains a new configuration file. If a configuration file was received, the parameters contained in the configuration file are implemented (77) in the control program for the power tool electronics. The power tool electronics is then returned to the quiescent mode (70) again.
