Communication transceiver architecture

A free-space communication transceiver includes a telescope for transmitting and receiving laser beams, a tunable laser transmitter for generating a transmit laser beam modulated with data, a tunable optical receiver for processing a receive laser beam received from the telescope to recover data, and a tunable beamsplitter that directs the transmit laser beam to the telescope and directs the receive laser beam from the telescope to the optical receiver. Between the telescope and beamsplitter, the transmit and receive laser beams travel along a common optical axis as collinear collimated free-space beams. The transmit and receive laser beams operate at different wavelengths that can be interchanged, thereby support full-duplex operation. The beamsplitter employs a tunable etalon filter whose wavelength-dependent transmission characteristics are adjusted according to the transmit and receive wavelengths. Optionally, RF signals can additionally be couple to the common optical axis and transmitted and received by the telescope.

Implantation of cartilage

InactiveUS20090024224A1Promote recellularizationRestrict subsequent apoptosisBone implantSurgeryRepair cartilageViable cell
The invention is directed towards a process for implanting a cartilage graft into a cartilage defect and sealing the implanted cartilage graft with recipient tissue by creating a first bore down to the bone portion of the cartilage defect, creating a second shaped bore that is concentric to and on top of the first bore to match the shape and size of the cartilage graft, treating the first bore and the second shaped bore at the defect site with a bonding agent, treating the circumferential area of the cartilage graft with a bonding agent, inserting the cartilage graft into the defect site and wherein the superficial surface of the cartilage graft is at the same height as the surrounding cartilage surface. The first and second bonding agents may be activated by applying a stimulation agent to induce sealing, integration, and restoration of the hydrodynamic environments of the recipient tissue. The invention is also directed towards a process for repairing a cartilage defect and implanting a cartilage graft into a human or animal by crafting a cartilage matrix into individual grafts, cleaning and disinfecting the cartilage graft, applying a pretreatment solution to the cartilage graft, removing cellular debris using an extracting solution to produce a devitalized cartilage graft, implanting the cartilage graft into the cartilage defect with or without an insertion device, and sealing the implanted cartilage graft with recipient tissue. The devitalized cartilage graft is optionally recellularized in vitro, in vivo, or in situ with viable cells to render the tissue vital before or after the implantation. The devitalized cartilage graft is also optionally stored between the removing cellular debris and the recellularizing steps. The invention is further directed toward a repaired cartilage defect.

Apparatus for and method of operating a furnace blower to evaporate condensate within an exhaust flue

A blower for a furnace is provided where the blower has an impeller that is configured to create a primary air flow of combustion air into the blower housing and a secondary air flow of cooling air through the blower motor. The primary air flow of combustion air into the furnace generates hot exhaust gases for a heat exchanger in the furnace. The secondary air flow cools the blower motor. The secondary air flow is mixed with the hot exhaust gases in the blower housing and cools the exhaust gases before being discharged from the blower housing. A control operates the blower for a time period after each combustion cycle to introduce ambient air into the exhaust flue and chimney to ensure the evaporation of any condensate forming from the products of combustion contained in the exhaust. The blower may be a variable or multi-speed motor so that a different motor speed may be used for combustion than for the run time after combustion.

Methods and systems for providing information to mass localized mobile users over a limited bandwidth are described. Short text messaging system messages, e.g., SMS, may be used to transmit coded data between mobile terminals and content providers, while a client application resident on each mobile terminal can decode the messages received from a content provider and display information in human-understandable formats on the display screen of the mobile terminal. The client application can also encode messages to send to the content provider to request specified information on demand. Users can also specify criteria that, when met, the content provider automatically sends an encoded SMS message to the user's mobile terminal with the requested information, provided the user has prepaid to receive SMS messages.

Image processing system via network

The technique of the present invention ensures output of an image subjected to image processing, which does not depend upon the output environment but reflects the color reproduction characteristics of a shooting device and the intention of a photographer in shooting. The process generates an image file that includes picture data generated by a digital still camera, as well as control data and output specification information attached thereto. The control data controls the details of image processing according to the color reproduction characteristics of the camera and the intention of the photographer in shooting. The output specification information specifies, for example, the address of a printing device used as an output resource, the type of printing paper used for printing, and the number of copies. The image file is transmitted to an image processing system on a network. The image processing system carries out image processing of the picture data based on the control data, generates an output file, and transmits the output file to an specified output device via the network. Even in the environment that can not perform image processing based on the control data, the arrangement of the invention ensures output of the image that has been subjected to such image processing.

Surge protected coaxial termination

A surge-protected coaxial termination includes a metallic outer body, a center conductor extending through a central bore of the outer body, and a spark gap created therebetween to discharge high-voltage power surges. A pair of dielectric support insulators support the center conductor on opposite sides of the spark gap. High impedance inductive zones surround the spark gap to form a T-network low pass filter that nullifies the additional capacitance of the spark gap. An axial, carbon composition resistor is disposed inside the outer body, and inside the dielectric insulator to absorb the RF signal, and prevent its reflection. The resistor extends co-axially with the center conductor, and one end of the resistor is electrically coupled thereto. A blocking chip capacitor extends radially from the opposite end of the resistor to the grounded outer body. The opposing second end of the resistive component may protrude from the metallic outer body and related dielectric material; the DC blocking capacitor preferably extends radially between the second end of the resistive component and the metallic outer body, or to a grounding post secured thereto.

Garden waterbed

The Garden Waterbed is constructed of a durable tube of flexible UV protected material. The ends of the tube have been sealed, enabling it to hold water. Circular holes have been cut out and sealed down the center length of the tube, at regular intervals. A valve is installed at one end of the tube, allowing water to be filled into the large single chamber and hold it with a tight seal. There are multiple purposes of the Garden Waterbed. The water bed's intended use is; to be rolled out in a agriculture environment or garden area, to be filled with water, and to have plants buried in the soil within the growth units. The surrounding water increases the thermal mass surrounding the plants in the circular holes. The thermal mass absorbs the suns energy and increases soil temperature, thus increasing the growing season and boosting production. The opaque plastic stops sunlight from reaching the ground and eliminates weeds and undesirables from competing with your crop. At the same time insulating the ground and shading the soil, decreasing crop water consumption and increasing earthworm populations, increasing overall cleanliness of the subject grown, and increasing disease and insect infestation protection. The flexible design allows for quick and easy installation and roll away storage.
