A communication system architecture (SA) for a vehicle which may be integrated into the vehicle's multiplexed electronic component communication system, and a process for communicating with the vehicle to provide information for and about the vehicle's operational status and coordinating the vehicle's activities. The communication system will include a multi-functional antenna system for the vehicle that will have the capability to receive AM / FM radio and television signals, and transmit and receive citizens band (CB) radio signals, satellite and microwave and cellular phone communications. The antenna may be installed as original equipment or as a back-fit part in the after-market. In either case the multi-functional antenna will be integrated with the vehicle's multiplexed electronic component communication system. Controlled steering of a flexible needle

A robotic system for steering a flexible needle during insertion into soft-tissue using imaging to determine the needle position. The control system calculates a needle tip trajectory that hits the desired target while avoiding potentially dangerous obstacles en route. Using an inverse kinematics algorithm, the maneuvers required of the needle base to cause the tip to follow this trajectory are calculated, such that the robot can perform controlled needle insertion. The insertion of a flexible needle into a deformable tissue is modeled as a linear beam supported by virtual springs, where the stiffness coefficients of the springs varies along the needle. The forward and inverse kinematics of the needle are solved analytically, enabling both path planning and correction in real-time. The needle shape is detected by image processing performed on fluoroscopic images. The stiffness properties of the tissue are calculated from the measured shape of the needle.

Collision avoidance involving radar feedback

Collision avoidance systems and methods are implemented on unmanned mobile vehicles to supplement map-based trajectories generated by the vehicles' navigation systems. These systems include radar, which detect obstacles in the path of the unmanned mobile vehicles, and collision avoidance modules, which enable the vehicles to avoid unexpected obstacles by adjusting their trajectories and velocities based on feedback received from the radar. In general, when an obstacle is detected by the radar, the collision avoidance module modifies the commanded velocity of an unmanned mobile vehicle by subtracting from the nominal commanded velocity the component that is in the direction of the obstacle. The magnitude of the velocity modification typically increases as the distance between the mobile vehicle and the obstacle decreases.

The controller (2) reads data of the supersonic distance measurement unit (6) and uploads the encoded data to the central processor (3); the central processor (3) reads images shot by the binocular camera (7), signal lamp states of a road section where the central processor (3) is in and the data of the supersonic distance measurement unit (6), performs recognition processing to determine the moving direction and cleaning actions of the system and transmits the moving direction and cleaning actions to the controller (2); and the controller (2) controls the moving mechanism (5) to drive the whole system to move towards the garbage direction and the cleaning mechanism (4) to clean cleaning mechanism (4). By means of the intelligent robot road cleaning system and cleaning method, roads can be cleaned automatically and actively, environmental sanitation workers can be replaced or assisted to check and study roads for cleaning in heavy-traffic or high-vehicle-sapped dangerous sections.
