A communication system architecture (SA) for a vehicle which may be integrated into the vehicle's multiplexed electronic component communication system, and a process for communicating with the vehicle to provide information for and about the vehicle's operational status and coordinating the vehicle's activities. The communication system will include a multi-functional antenna system for the vehicle that will have the capability to receive AM/FM radio and television signals, and transmit and receive citizens band (CB) radio signals, satellite and microwave and cellular phone communications. The antenna may be installed as original equipment or as a back-fit part in the after-market. In either case the multi-functional antenna will be integrated with the vehicle's multiplexed electronic component communication system. The process for communicating with the vehicle will involve a communication service for which the vehicle's driver will enroll for and service will continue so long as maintenance fees are paid. The service will be capable of providing various levels of information transfer and coordination. The levels may include vehicle information such as (1) the need for servicing and location of the nearest service center with the necessary parts in stock, (2) routing, and (3) load brokering and coordination. The modular design of the system architecture (SA) will allow it to be employed with the vehicle platform that does not possess a full multiplexed electronic component communications system. The resulting vehicle, using an after-market application package, will be able to participate in some of the services.

Steering method for vehicle and apparatus thereof

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for steering a vehicle, and more particularly to an apparatus and a method for steering an autonomous vehicle. One aspect of the present invention provides a method of steering a vehicle in an apparatus for steering the vehicle, the method comprising: (a) determining a first path by using a starting point and a destination of the vehicle; (b) generating an obstacle position signal when a plurality of obstacle sensors mounted on the vehicle detect an obstacle during an operation of the vehicle; (c) generating a parallax information using the obstacle position signal received from the plurality of the obstacle sensors; and (d) determining a second path avoiding the obstacle by using the parallax information. According to the method and the apparatus for steering a vehicle of the present invention, a vehicle may avoid obstacles in real-time in complex environments.

Robot vision system and detection method

A robot vision system for outputting a disparity map includes a stereo camera for receiving left and right images and outputting a disparity map between the two images; an encoder for encoding either the left image or the right image into a motion compensation-based video bit-stream; and a decoder for extracting an encoding type of an image block, a motion vector, and a DCT coefficient from the video bit-stream. Further, the system includes a person detector for detecting and labeling person blocks in the image using the disparity map between the left image and the right image, the block encoding type, and the motion vector, and detecting a distance from the labeled person to the camera; and an obstacle detector for detecting a closer obstacle than the person using the block encoding type, the motion vector, and the DCT coefficient extracted from the video bit-stream, and the disparity map.

Road cleaning system and method through intelligent robot

The invention discloses a road cleaning system and method through an intelligent robot for mainly solving the problem of frequent happening of accidents of environmental sanitation workers due to large effects of prior road environmental sanitation cleaning systems on traffic. The system comprises a controller (2), a binocular camera (7), a central processor (3), a supersonic distance measurement unit (6), a cleaning mechanism (4) and a moving mechanism (5). The controller (2) reads data of the supersonic distance measurement unit (6) and uploads the encoded data to the central processor (3); the central processor (3) reads images shot by the binocular camera (7), signal lamp states of a road section where the central processor (3) is in and the data of the supersonic distance measurement unit (6), performs recognition processing to determine the moving direction and cleaning actions of the system and transmits the moving direction and cleaning actions to the controller (2); and the controller (2) controls the moving mechanism (5) to drive the whole system to move towards the garbage direction and the cleaning mechanism (4) to clean cleaning mechanism (4). By means of the intelligent robot road cleaning system and cleaning method, roads can be cleaned automatically and actively, environmental sanitation workers can be replaced or assisted to check and study roads for cleaning in heavy-traffic or high-vehicle-sapped dangerous sections.
