Vinyl siding is plastic exterior siding for houses and small apartment buildings, used for decoration and weatherproofing, imitating wood clapboard, board and batten or shakes, and used instead of other materials such as aluminum or fiber cement siding. It is an engineered product, manufactured primarily from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin. In the UK and New Zealand a similar material is known as uPVC weatherboarding.

Extruded variegated plastic siding panels

A variegated polymeric article such as a variegated siding panel having improved depth of color and a three-dimensional appearance is formed having a substantially clear, methacrylic acid based capstock coextruded to a tinted polyvinyl chloride based substrate material. A specially formulated streaker pellet provides accent color streaks within the capstock to simulate a wood grain appearance. The use of a clear capstock material eliminates the need for capstock tinting necessary in the prior art to color match the capstock to the substrate material in post formed variegated vinyl sidings. Titanium dioxide may also be introduced in small amounts to the capstock to provide further ultraviolet light protection to the underlying tinted polyvinyl chloride based substrate material.

Locking laps for vinyl siding

The locking laps for vinyl siding secure adjacent siding panels and prevent them from being removed from a building structure during strong wind conditions. A locking lap assembly is secured at the two ends of each siding panel to securely connect each siding panel to adjacent siding panels. The locking lap assembly comprises a locking lap and a spacing member. The spacing member is secured to the rear surface of the siding panel. The locking lap member is secured to the spacing member and extends beyond the end of the siding panel. The spacing member provides a space between the locking lap and the rear surface of the siding panel, to allow a locking lap of an adjacent panel to be received between the locking lap and the siding panel. The locking laps of two adjacent panels overlap one another to provide a secure attachment of the adjacent panels.

An acoustical and thermally absorbent composite formed of thermoplastic bonding materials and reinforcing fibers is provided. The reinforcing fibers are preferably wet use chopped strand glass fibers (WUCS). The thermoplastic bonding materials may be any thermoplastic or thermosetting material having a melting point less than the reinforcing fiber. The composite material may be formed by partially opening the WUCS fibers and bonding fibers, blending the reinforcement and bonding fibers, forming the reinforcement and bonding fibers into a sheet, and bonding the sheet. The composite material is a lofted insulation product that may be used as a reinforcement backing for cladding such as vinyl siding. The composite material may be affixed to the siding by ultrasonic welding. After the composite material has been affixed to the siding, the siding product may be vacuum packaged within an air-impervious material to reduce the storage and / or shipping space required for the siding product.

Films or structural exterior materials using coating composition having self-cleaning property and preparation method thereof

Disclosed is a coating composition that can provide structural materials having hydrophilicity, excellent self-cleaning property and long service life. The present invention also discloses a method for preparing the composition, a substrate, such as a film or structural exterior material like vinyl sidings, with the applied coating composition, and a method to prepare a substrate with the coating composition. The coating composition has hydroxy group-containing inorganic particles that improve the initial hydrophilicity of conventional coating agents. Additionally, by using two types of inorganic particles having different particles diameters, the coating composition can form a hydrophilic coating layer having a contact angle with water of 30° or less. Additionally, a low boiling point organic solvent having erosive property to a substrate to be coated may be used to allow the application of the coating layer to a conventional production line for structural exterior materials without adding a separate coating line.
