In a structured workflow system, a configurable workflow engine provides mechanisms for executing and scheduling the work items in a defined way. End users use their discretion and define their own “local” processes and “local” rules for processing work items, or deviate from predefined processes. The configurable workflow engine might be installed at a server to organize workflows and business processes where end users can define processing steps for incoming work items by setting up rules and defining workflows as part of a local workflow structure. By defining these rules and workflows, the further processing steps of future incoming work items can be automated. When an administrator directs the workflow engine to move from a current phase to a next phase, the workflow engine deals with the incomplete items by allowing the administrator to carry over work items (or might do it automatically). End -user consultation might be included in the carry-over decisions. The carried over work items are added as parallel activities to the next phase. The workflow engine handles imposing and executing control flow dependencies between tasks, thus providing a smooth transition from totally unstructured work to semi-structured or completely structured work. When the workflow engine encounters semantically correlated work items / tasks, the process engine assumes that these work items / tasks belong to the same process instance.

Engine Sound Processing System

Microphones are provided at an air inlet of the engine and a vehicle-cabin-side wall surface of an engine room, and engine sounds are picked up. The engine sound is processed by a signal processing section, and the processed engine sound is output from a speaker provided in a vehicle cabin. The signal processing section is provided with a filter which simulates a sound insulation characteristic of the vehicle cabin and a transformation section for processing the engine sound according to driving condition. A spectrum transformation characteristic of the transformation section is determined according to values detected by a vehicle speed sensor, an engine speed sensor, and an accelerator depression sensor, and a spectrum of the engine sound is transformed by means of specification of the spectrum transformation characteristic, thereby enhancing an engine sound.

Assisted mainframe data de-duplication

Data de-duplication (“de-dupe”) offers IT organizations the opportunity to replace aging tape systems with disk-based backup solutions and minimize the storage allocated to backup and data protection. The effectiveness of de-dupe technology is extremely dependent on the data being protected. Data streams with little data repetitiveness will provide disappointing results when processed through a block-level de-dupe engine. To avoid this problem, Assisted Mainframe De-Dupe (AMDD) technology can be used to insure that filesystem block-level de-dupe products efficiently and effectively de-dupe tape backup streams received from IBM and or compatible mainframes. By pre-processing backup tape volumes before sending the data to storage, AMDD will insure that large amounts of unchanged data will line up on de-dupe block boundaries each time the data is sent to the de-dupe process engine. By providing “well-behaved” data to the de-dupe process, AMDD can significantly improve the effectiveness of de-dupe processing and substantially reduce the storage is used to backup critical mainframe DASD resources.
