512 results about "Lectin" patented technology

Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that are highly specific for sugar groups of other molecules. Lectins have a role in recognition on the cellular and molecular level and play numerous roles in biological recognition phenomena involving cells, carbohydrates, and proteins. Lectins also mediate attachment and binding of bacteria and viruses to their intended targets.

Biotype diets system: predicting food allergies by blood type

The invention is a diet-typing system for humans, including novel methods for diagnosis and treatment of food allergies and hypersensitivities. The diagnostic method correlates blood types (immunologically reactive antigens on RBC, skin and membranes) to four kinds of food allergies / hypersensitivities (IgE antibodies, IgG antibodies, T-cells, and Lectins). The results are used to identify and predict food allergies and hypersensitivities for six biological types (blood types A1, A2, B, O, A1B, and A2B), plus diet modifications for three subtypes (blood type Rh-negative, males and females). The treatment method uses the results to make food recommendations (to eat, limit, or avoid), based on the strength or classification of allergy scores, to mitigate the risk of food allergies and hypersensitivities in future persons. The diet-typing system presents the results on six diet cards, one for each blood type. The methods and resulting diets are unique, and differ substantially from prior inventions.

Extract method for lectin of leguminous plants

A method for extracting bean phytohemagglutinin belongs to the extraction technical field of useful constituents of plants. The method is a water extraction method in which the extraction is performed at 40-60 DEG C based on the following steps: crushing bean seeds to 40-100 meshes, adding soak solution to extract bean husk at the temperature of 40-60 DEG C for 60-180min and then fish the bean husk, performing rough separation to remove bean dregs, centrifugally separating to obtain supernatant with the bean phytohemagglutinin, further performing separation and purification on the supernatant, condensing or drying the supernatant to obtain the phytohemagglutinin. Ultrasonic wave or microwave can be exerted in the whole or part of the extraction process, or the ultrasonic wave and the microwave are alternately exerted to perform auxiliary extraction. A traditional low-temperature soaking and low-temperature treatment method is completely discarded in the method, and practice proves that the method is a simple and efficient method for extracting the phytohemagglutinin in short time. Related detection proves that the obtained phytohemagglutinin can meet conventional experimental needs and medicinal needs. The method helps overcome the disadvantage of more chemical reagent composition residue and long extraction time of the products obtained by the prior art.

Method for the characterization of intermolecular interactions

The invention relates to a method for identifying in a sample molecules with the capacity to bind to the different members of a molecule library, wherein the molecules which are in the sample are fractionated based on a physicochemical property of the sample and subsequently transferred from the support in which said molecules have been separated to a second support in which the different members of the molecule library are grouped into microarrays such that they uniformly coat the surface of the support. This technique is especially interesting for the identification in a sample of glycoproteins with affinity for a lectin library as well as for the identification of compounds capable of modulating the glycosylation of proteins and for the rapid characterization of alterations in the glycosylation pattern of a sample of proteins, which can be useful in the diagnosis of diseases in which there are alterations in cell glycosylation.

Adjuvant immune therapy in the treatment of solid tumors through modulation of signaling pathways following engagement of humoral and cell mediated responses

The invention combines a novel combination with two especially important aspects: first, the invention proposes to simultaneously stimulate response in white blood cells and a patient's tumor cells with a mitogen-challenging compound, preferably a lectin, in the preferred mode the selected lectin being phytohemagglutin ("PHA"), and second, to generate heat shock protein. A method of treatment is set out. The method of manufacturing proposed utilizes a system calculated to better insure sterility and streamline production of the cytokine modulator. A method of testing in conjunction with the therapy is also claimed utilizing clinical assessment of disease activity, patient performance status, and quality of life questionnaire. Should efficacy of a treatment fall off, particularly because of mutation or adaption, the composition and method may be re- applied. The invention is not limited to humans, but is also applicable to mammals. The composition is usable as a stand-alone composition, but preferably is used in conjunction with standard therapy such as radiation, chemotherapy or surgery, particularly surgical therapy, and in conjunction with the administration of cystine, as later defined, to enhance immune system competency.

Novel Modified Galectin 8 Proteins and Use Thereof

InactiveUS20080044385A1More stabilityOrganic active ingredientsFungiEscherichia coliNeutrophil adhesion
Recombinant galectin 8 (rGal 8), produced in host Escherichia coli, exerts hemagglutinating activity, neutrophil adhesion inducing activity, integrin αM-binding activity, proMMP-9 binding activity, active form MMP-9 production promoting activity, superoxide production promoting activity, apoptosis inducing activity for a particular cell, suppressive or inhibitory activity against the metastasis / invasion of tumor cells, etc. In the rGal 8, however, a link domain linking two CRDs is highly susceptible to protease and, therefore, is very easily digestible with the enzyme, thereby losing the above activities. Thus, there is a need for a more stabilized molecule in view of further studies. Modification of the link domain linking two CRDs in galectin 8 provides a modified molecule having an elevated activity without any undesirable effects on the above activities.

Magnetic particle tagged blood bank reagents and techniques

Magnets and magnetic particle-labeled reagents are used to capture and / or release magnetic particle-tagged entities for immunohematology diagnostic testing purposes, especially tests performed in blood banking. The magnetic tagged entities may be tagged antibodies, tagged blood cells, tagged universal binding partners, especially tagged lectins and tagged Coombs reagent, and other binding agents such as biotin-avidin, Protein A or G, ligands and their receptors and the like. Separation of unbound material from bound material is effected through the use of one or both the magnetic field effect on the magnetic labeled reactants and the density gradients of layers of an assay construct. Constructs such as chromatographic strip lateral flow format, and liquid phase reactions in suitable vessels with end point determinations that do not require centrifugation to detect reacted entities. Readable labels such as enzymes, fluorophors, chemiluminescent materials, radioactive isotopes, and other labels may be attached to Coombs reagent to provide a readable product of the Coombs reagent with any antibody participating in the assay.
