2999 results about "Hydraulic ram" patented technology

A hydraulic ram, or hydram, is a cyclic water pump powered by hydropower. It takes in water at one "hydraulic head" (pressure) and flow rate, and outputs water at a higher hydraulic head and lower flow rate. The device uses the water hammer effect to develop pressure that allows a portion of the input water that powers the pump to be lifted to a point higher than where the water originally started. The hydraulic ram is sometimes used in remote areas, where there is both a source of low-head hydropower and a need for pumping water to a destination higher in elevation than the source. In this situation, the ram is often useful, since it requires no outside source of power other than the kinetic energy of flowing water.

Well Service Pump System

A well service pump system supplies high pressure working fluid to a well. The pump system is a linear design which incorporates a diesel engine, a hydraulic drive gear box, open loop hydraulic Pumps, hydraulic ram cylinders, controls for the hydraulic system hydraulic cylinders, working fluid end cylinders and a coupling to connect the hydraulic cylinders and the working fluid ends. The engine powers the hydraulic system which, in turn, provides hydraulic fluid to operate the hydraulic ram cylinders. Each of the polished rods of the hydraulic ram cylinders is connected axially to a plunger rod end of a working fluid end cylinder. There is no crankshaft or automatic transmission required. The linear design allows for a longer plunger stroke length while still allowing highway transport on a truck or skid.

Well service pump power system and methods

A well service pump system supplies high pressure working fluid to a well. The pump system is a linear design which incorporates an electric motor, a variable frequency drive (VFD), a pump drive, closed loop variable flow rate hydraulic pumps, hydraulic ram cylinders, working fluid end cylinders, and a coupling to connect the hydraulic ram cylinders and the working fluid end cylinders. The electric motor powers the hydraulic system which, in turn, provides hydraulic fluid to operate the hydraulic ram cylinders. The VFD is connected to a single one of the hydraulic pumps at a time and applies power to the connected pump, via the pump drive, to drive the connected pump from a cold start to an operating speed. The VFD is connected sequentially, one pump at a time, to each of the hydraulic pumps and disconnected from each pump once the pump reaches the operating speed. Once the pump reaches operating speed, the pump is connected to receive power directly to the electric motor.

Method and apparatus for converting ocean wave energy into electricity

A power-generating device located in or on the surface of the ocean for generating power utilizing the energy in ocean wave motion. The device is moored to the bow and stern at ˜45° to incoming ocean waves, and with a yawing capability to adjust to change in wave direction. The device delivers power to a shore grid via a submarine cable from a generator. A rotational driving torque to the generator is produced by two long counter-rotating drive tubes, which are held by bearings in the bow hull and the stern hull of the device. As an alternative, hydraulics may be employed for energy capture and power smoothing and used to provide the rotational torque through a hydraulic motor to drive a generator. The main body is partially submerged and has multiple pod floats connected to the structure by rocker arms with bearings through which the drive tubes pass or double-acting hydraulic rams between the arms and the main body, which capture energy through pod displacement and store it in accumulators. Rotary torque of the drive tubes is produced when the pods move up and down according to motion of the waves and is transmitted to the generator to generate power. In the hydraulic case, energy is stored in accumulators as pressure due to the double-acting hydraulic pistons pumping when the pods move up and down according to the motion of the waves. Hydraulic pressure drives a pump, which provides torque to the generator.

Adjustable snow making tower

Method and apparatus for making snow by generating water spray from a triple array of multiple nozzle sub-boom branch-pipes transversely protruding from the upper end of a main boom of a pivotably adjustable snow making pipe tower. Three air jet streams, one for each branch pipe, are simultaneously discharged under high pressure into and sequentially through the throats of each associated multiple stack of water sprays issuing from each set of branch pipe nozzles to thereby form multiple spray plumes of atomized and seeded water all directed forwardly from the upper end of the tower pipe. The water pipe may be an elliptical aluminum extrusion with two interior air tubes respectively controllably feeding large and small diameter air jet arrays to thereby provide a range of air jet water spray interaction. The pipe tower may be pivotally raised and lowered by a block-and-tackle or chain fall type drive mechanism that may be recoupled to the tops of a lifting pole and tower pipe for bodily raising the entire tower pipe and its support pipe telescopically on a ground support pole. Spreader-supported guy wires may be used to brace the tower pipe and also provide an electrical deicing circuit. Air jet control, blow-out valving and water drain conduit arrangements are disclosed, and also universally adjustable ground support systems for the pipe tower, including an underground-fed combined telescopic hydraulic ram forming air and water conduits.
