What is described here is a power supply unit for plasma systems such as plasma processing or coating devices, wherein electric arcs or disruptive breakdown may occur, which originate from an electrode in particular, comprisinga d.c. voltage or direct-current source whose output terminals are connected via an inductive resistor and a power switch to the electrodes of the plasma system, and possiblya circuit for detecting electric arcs or disruptive breakdown, that operates the switch upon occurrence of an electric arc or disruptive breakdown, in such a way that electrical energy producing a plasma will no longer be applied to the electrodes. The invention is characterised by the provisions that the inductive resistor(s) is (are) each connected to a recovery diode and that the switch is a series switch. In another embodiment of the invention a controller or closed-loop controller, respectively, is provided which, upon occurrence of an electric arc or disruptive breakdown, respectively, extinguishes same by disconnecting the voltage applied to the electrodes or by commutation to an inverted voltage for a defined period of time (deactivation interval), and which, upon occurrence of at least one electric arc or disruptive breakdown event, reduces the activation interval of the voltage causing plasma operation.

Operating method and actuation device for a piston pump

The invention relates to a method for operating a piston pump (10) which is driven by means of a coil (1) of an electromagnet. A piston (2) of the piston pump (10) can be moved in a cylinder (3) for pumping purposes by means of the electromagnet. A voltage (U) is applied to the coil (1) during a switch-on period such that a current flows through the coil (1) and the piston (2) is accelerated, said voltage being applied by means of an actuation device (11). A time curve of an electric state variable (I, U) of the coil (1) is qualitatively detected, and the curve or a curve derived therefrom is analyzed in order to detect an impact of the piston (2) against a stop. The invention further relates to an actuation device and a piston pump.

Power circuit breaker

The invention relates to a power circuit breaker that is suitable for switching electrical voltages. The power circuit breaker according to the invention comprises two main electrodes, to each of which a respective pole of the voltage to be switched can be connected. During the switching process, at least one of said main electrodes follows a switching path. The power circuit breaker is characterized in that secondary electrodes are additionally provided, which protrude into the vicinity of the switching path and are designed and arranged in such a way that arcs can be produced (a) between the main electrodes and the secondary electrodes and (b) between the individual secondary electrodes during the switching process. The power circuit breaker according to the invention can be advantageously used in vehicles and in ultra-high-voltage AC and HVDC (high-voltage direct current) transmission systems and causes arcs to be extinguished as early as possible during the switching process.
