Multiplex electrophoretic display driver circuit

A multiplex electrophoretic display driver circuit comprises a memory unit, a display controller and a voltage driving unit. The memory unit has two registers respectively storing the current and former gray-level matrix signals. The gray-level matrix signal contains gray-level data corresponding to electrophoretic pixels. The display controller has an encoding circuit and a counting circuit. The encoding circuit generates a difference-value matrix signal containing difference values according to a difference between the current and former gray-level matrix signals and then generates a voltage-difference matrix signal containing voltage-difference signals corresponding to the electrophoretic pixels. The counting circuit receives the difference-value matrix signal and counts to generate refreshing values corresponding to the difference values. The encoding circuit adds the refreshing values to a next-cycled difference-value matrix signal to generate a new voltage-difference matrix signal. The voltage driving unit drives the electrophoretic pixels according to the voltage-difference matrix signal.

System and method for reducing power consumption during extended refresh periods of dynamic random access memory devices

A dynamic random access memory (“DRAM”) device is operable in either a normal refresh mode or a static refresh mode, such as a self-refresh mode. A cell plate voltage selector couples a voltage of one-half the supply voltage to the cell plate of a DRAM array in a normal refresh mode and in the static refresh mode when memory cells are being refreshed. In between refresh bursts in the static refresh mode, the cell plate voltage selector couples a reduced voltage to the cell plate. This reduces the voltage reduces the voltage across diode junctions formed between the source / drain of respective access transistor and the substrate. The reduced voltage reduces the discharge current flowing from memory cells capacitors, thereby allowing a reduction in the required refresh rate and a consequential reduction in power consumption.

Method and device for encoding and reconstructing computer-generated video holograms

A method and a device for encoding and reconstructing computer-generated video holograms using a conventional LC display: it provides holographic reconstruction of three-dimensional scenes using electronically controllable pixel in a holographic array (3) with a conventional resolution, and is reasonably free from flickering and cross-talk. Reconstruction is in real time, and for both eyes at the same time, over a large viewing zone. The method takes advantage of an optical focusing means (2) in order to image vertically coherent light emitted by a line light source (1) into viewing windows (8R, 8L) after modulation by the pixel array (3). The holographic reconstruction (11) of the scene is rendered visible from viewing windows (8R, 8L) for both eyes of an observer by way of diffraction at the pixels. According to the invention, the controllable pixels are disposed in vertical pixel columns (15, 16), which encode separate holograms of the same scene for each of the viewer's eyes (R, L), where said holograms are one-dimensional in the vertical direction and horizontally interleaved. An image separation means (7) with separating elements arranged parallel to the pixel columns reveals the respective pixel columns (15, 15′ or 16, 16′) for one eye and covers them for the other eye.
