System and method for providing mediator services between service provider and service purchaser, and computer program for same

A method and system that enables a mediator server to provide opportunities for individuals to sell and buy services between them. Mediator server acts as an intermediary agent to support the service transactions occurring between service providers and service purchasers. Mediator server is connected to a service provider terminal and to a service purchaser terminal over a network. The mediator server contains a database for a list of service providers, and the mediator server presents the list of service providers to the service purchaser for display on the service purchaser terminal, from which the service purchaser selects the service provider expected to offer the service desired. Responsive to selection of the service provider by the service purchaser, the mediator server transfers a service purchase request to the appropriate service provider for display on the service provider terminal, to allow the service provider to decide on whether to accept or decline the request, based on the information in the request. This decision is communicated to the mediator server, which transfers it to the service purchaser.

System and method for auctioning services over an information exchange network

InactiveUS20080208733A1Reduce competitionEncouraging fierce price competitionFinanceCommerceRating systemService provision
The present invention is directed to an improved system and method for auctioning services, which overcomes some of the drawbacks in the prior art systems and methods. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, buyers request and specify at the start of the auction the number of lowest bids the buyers would like to see. By requesting to see more bids, the buyers would have greater opportunity to evaluate service providers based on factors other than price, thereby encouraging less price competition among providers. By requesting to see fewer bids, the buyers would have less opportunity to evaluate service providers based on factors other than price, thereby encouraging fierce price competition. The number of bids requested by the Buyer is made known to the bidders. The net effect is that the buyers can control the price / quality tradeoff at the onset of the auction process, and encourage the bidders to provide their lowest bids when pricing is important. This lets the buyers make their final decision based on factors in addition to price, at the lowest price possible. In another aspect of the present invention, a rating system is employed to rate the buyer's transaction history, with respect to their frequency of following through with the bids for jobs that they submitted for auction. This rating system deters those buyers that casually shop for pricing with little chance of following through with the auction. Buyers who frequently submit jobs without executing them will get a low rating. A low rating discourages service providers from bidding, thereby decreasing the competitiveness of an auction and increasing the cost of obtaining the service. Consequently, buyers will be reluctant or discouraged to submit for auctioning jobs that have a low chance of occurring, because it affects their rating. The buyer follow-through ratings give the bidders a better sense of the buyers' commitment prior to deciding on allocating resources to participate in bidding at the auction. In one embodiment of the present invention, the system and method for auctioning services are implemented over an information exchange network. In a more specific embodiment of the present invention, the information exchange network is the Internet. This facilitates bringing together the many service providers in a centralized auction market using standardized, electronic bid forms to communicate prices publicly, and service providers have a chance to adjust their prices in real time. For purpose of illustrating the inventive concept, the present invention is described using the example of document services, and more particularly printing services.

Storage Tank For A Cryogenic Liquid And Method Of Re-Filling Same

A storage tank defines a cryogen space for storing a cryogenic liquid. The storage tank comprises a combined fill and vent assembly, which comprises a conduit having a first end with an opening disposed within an upper part of the cryogen space, and a second end outside of the cryogen space that is connected to a receptacle, to which a re-filling nozzle can be attached. A check valve disposed in the conduit allows flow only in the direction of filling the cryogen space with cryogenic liquid from the receptacle. A by-pass line is provided around the check valve with a valve disposed in the by-pass line that is operable to open or close to control flow through the by-pass line. The method comprises attaching a re-filling nozzle to the receptacle and opening the by-pass valve to vent vapor from the cryogen space to reduce vapor pressure therein and to cool the conduit, receptacle, re-filling nozzle, and fill line. After venting the storage tank, the by-pass valve is closed, and the storage tank can be re-filled through the receptacle and conduit.

Systems and methods for optimizing the crystallization of amorphous silicon

In a thin beam directional Crystallization System configured anneal a silicon layer on a glass substrate uses a special laser beam profile with an intensity peak at one edge. The system is configured to entirely melt a spatially controlled portion of a silicon layer causing lateral crystal growth. By advancing the substrate or laser a certain step size and subjecting the silicon layer to successive “shots” from the laser, the entire silicon layer is crystallized. The lateral crystal growth creates a protrusion in the center of the melt area. This protrusion must be re-melted. Accordingly, the step size must be such that there is sufficient overlap between successive shots, i.e., melt zones, to ensure the protrusion is melted. This requires the step size to be less than half the beam width. A smaller step size reduces throughput and increases costs. The special laser profile used in accordance with the systems and methods described herein can increase the step size and thereby increase throughput and reduce costs.

Autobalance roping and drive arrangement

An autobalancing roping and drive arrangement for elevators which continuously balances the weight of an elevator cab and the weight of a counterweight such that the force on the drive motor necessary to move the cab from floor to floor is minimized. A weighting device connected to a drive sheave imparts a downward force on the drive sheave and creates a tension in a force section, causing traction contact between the drive sheave and the drive rope. The tension in the force section includes a downward vertical component of force. This component and the weight of the counterweight combine to create a downward force on one side of the suspension sheave section. The downward force balances the downward force created by the weight of the cab on the opposite side of the suspension sheave section. The tension in the force section automatically compensates for the difference in weight between the cab and the counterweight and thereby maintains the elevator in balance.

Systems and Methods for Implementing Iterated Sealed-Bid Auctions

The present invention is directed to implementing iterated sealed-bid auctions of several types of products or several varieties of a single product simultaneously in order to encourage select bidders to place more and higher bids. Sellers therefore receive higher prices and products or services are more likely to be efficiently assigned. In general, iterated sealed-bid auctions are auctions in which bidders may make a variety of offers involving different prices and the final prices and allocation are determined according to the rules of a sealed-bid auction, but in which bidders may receive some feedback from initial rounds of bidding in the iterated sealed-bid auctions and have some opportunity to improve their price offers.
