crystal composition comprises one or more compounds represented by a formula I, one or more compounds represented by a formula II, and one or more compounds represented by a formula III, wherein each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently represents an
alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms, a
fluorine-substituted
alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms, an
alkoxy group having 1-10 carbon atoms, a
fluorine-substituted
alkoxy group having 1-10 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms, a
fluorine-substituted alkenyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms, an alkenyloxy group having 3-8 carbon atoms, or a fluorine-substituted alkenyloxy group having 3-8 carbon atoms;each of R and R' represents a cyclopropyl group, a cyclopentyl group or a 2-tetrahydrofuranyl group; each of a ring A and a ring B independently represents a 1,4-
phenylene group or a 1,4-cyclohexylenegroup. The liquid
crystal composition is especially suitable for
active matrix displays, especially displays based on VA, PSA, PA-VA, SS-VA, SA-VA, PS-VA, PALC, IPS, PS-IPS, FFS or PS-FFS effects.
