Data processing apparatus and method for performing rearrangement operations

A data processing apparatus and method are provided for performing rearrangement operations. The data processing apparatus has a register data store with a plurality of registers, each register storing a plurality of data elements. Processing circuitry is responsive to control signals to perform processing operations on the data elements. An instruction decoder is responsive to at least one but no more than N rearrangement instructions, where N is an odd plural number, to generate control signals to control the processing circuitry to perform a rearrangement process at least equivalent to: obtaining as source data elements the data elements stored in N registers of said register data store as identified by the at least one re-arrangement instruction; performing a rearrangement operation to rearrange the source data elements between a regular N-way interleaved order and a de-interleaved order in order to produce a sequence of result data elements; and outputting the sequence of result data elements for storing in the register data store. This provides a particularly efficient technique for performing N-way interleave and de-interleave operations, where N is an odd number, resulting in high performance, low energy consumption, and reduced register use when compared with known prior art techniques.

Method and apparatus for generating an image coding signal

An apparatus generates an image coding signal comprising for each image a first pixelised picture and a second pixelised picture having a luminance component and a chroma component. The apparatus comprises a first picture processor (203, 211) which includes image encoding data for an encoded first image in the first pixelised picture. A second picture processor (205, 207, 209, 211) includes dynamic range extension data in the second pixelised picture. The dynamic range extension data may be dynamic range extension data included in a chroma component of the second pixelised picture for generating an increased dynamic range image on the basis of the encoded first image. The compensation data may e.g. be compensation data for correcting another LDR-to-HDR transform, e.g. a prefixed global gamma transformation. The dynamic range extension data may be included in a luminance component and comprise data representing a dynamic range extension transform for generating an increased dynamic range image from the encoded first image.

Techniques for generating a trace stream for a data processing apparatus

Trace circuitry, and a method of operating such trace circuitry, are provided for generating a trace stream indicative of activities of monitored circuitry of a data processing apparatus. The monitored circuitry produces data elements indicative of those activities, and the trace circuitry comprises trace element generation circuitry which is responsive to at least some of the data elements produced by the monitored circuitry to generate trace elements representative of those data-elements, with the trace elements generated being dependent on a selected trace mode of operation of the trace circuitry. Compression circuitry is then arranged to apply an encoding operation to a sequence of trace elements in order to produce a packet whose bit pattern represents the sequence of trace elements, and to cause that packet to be output in the trace stream, the encoding operation applied being dependent on a current compression scheme associated with the compression circuitry. Whilst in the selected trace mode of operation, the compression circuitry is responsive to a compression change stimulus to change the current compression scheme from a first compression scheme to a second compression scheme whose bit pattern encoding space overlaps the bit pattern encoding space of the first compression scheme, such that following the change of compression scheme any further packets produced whilst in the selected trace mode of operation are produced in accordance with the second compression scheme. Such an approach has been found to provide improved compression efficiency thereby reducing the volume of trace data produced.

Urine dispersing urinal insert device

A disposable, deodorant and splash proof urine dispersing device for placement in a urinal including a framework made of scented plastic material with a horizontal segmented supporting base and a central raised housing. The supporting base includes a plurality of perforated flexible segments and a central bottom frame with a central opening aligned with an outlet or drain in the urinal. The opening is surrounded by the multiple segments such that the device can flex and adapt to urinals of different sizes and designs. The central raised housing includes a horizontal or inclined top member and an upstanding peripheral wall connecting the top member with the central bottom frame in the supporting base. The peripheral wall includes flush relief openings and tapered for easy unit stacking. The top member includes a frame with a plurality of spaced parallel rods having a unique configuration for dispersing urine flow with reduced back splashing toward the user of the urinal.

Controller and peripheral user interface (PUI) for media event

An apparatus for controlling a media event of a host system, such as a presentation of particular media content by a media device, includes a controller and a peripheral user interface (PUI) having user inputs. The PUI is preferably separable from the controller and communicates with the controller wirelessly or by releasable cabled connection. Optionally, a PUI includes a communications component and a subRUI that is capable of being removably coupled to the communications component or to the controller. Upon actuation of a user input, a program executed by a processor of the controller accesses both Device Independent Instructions that relate to the media event and Device Dependent Instructions that relate to a protocol for controlling the host system.

System and Method for the Automated Brokerage of Financial Instruments

ActiveUS20090037320A1Facilitates migrationIncrease flexibilityFinanceTurnaround timeOrder form
Disclosed herein in a preferred embodiment is an automated financial instrument brokerage system wherein a front end layer interacts with customers to generate activity requests for an intermediate layer. The intermediate layer preferably processes the activity requests and places financial instrument orders on a financial market if appropriate. A backend layer preferably provides data to the intermediate layer for processing activity requests. Multiple heterogeneous front end customer applications may be supported by the same intermediate layer. Further, multiple backend layer applications may interact with the intermediate layer in a manner transparent to the front end layer. Further, scalability can be achieved be partitioning various tasks of the intermediate layer onto separate servers, and more preferably on separate redundant servers. Load balancers may then be used in the intermediate layer to provide distributed access to these servers. Also disclosed herein is a caching technique whereby turnaround time for processing activity requests can be reduced by reducing the number of times that the intermediate layer needs to interact with the backend layer.

Burner for synthesis gas

The present invention relates to a burner, substantially comprising a swirl generator for a combustion air stream and means for introducing fuel into the combustion air stream, the swirl generator having combustion-air inlet openings for the combustion air stream that enters the burner, and the means for introducing fuel into the combustion air stream comprising one or more first fuel feeds having a group of first fuel outlet openings, arranged distributed around the burner axis at a combustion chamber-side end of the burner. The burner is distinguished by the fact that the one or more first fuel feeds having the group of first fuel outlet openings are mechanically decoupled from the swirl generator. The present burner allows reliable and safe use of synthesis gas in both dilute and undiluted form as fuel.
