An endoscopic accessory medical device is provided. The device can include a handle, a flexible shaft, and an end effector. The handle can include an actuator for operating the end effector through a wire or cable pulling member that extends through the flexible shaft. The handle and actuator can be operable with a single hand, such that the operation of the end effector can be accomplished with the same hand that is used to hold the handle and advance the end effector through an endoscope. The handle can include an actuation mechanism that is decoupled from operation of the end effector when the actuator is in a first open position, which becomes operatively coupled to the end effector when the actuator is moved to a second position, such as by squeezing the actuator, and which operates the end effector when the actuator is moved further to a third position.

Geogrid or mesh structure

To make an oriented plastics material geogrid 10 in which oriented strands 6, 9 form triangular meshes with a junction 11 at each corner and six of the strands 6, 9 meet at each junction 11, a plastics material sheet starting material 1 has holes 2 in an array of hexagons 3, opposite holes 2 of each hexagon being aligned in the machine direction, and the starting material 1 is stretched first in the machine direction and secondly in the transverse direction. In the eventual geogrid 10, the centre portions of the hexagons in the starting material 1 form the junctions 11. The centres of the junctions 11 are slightly biaxially oriented, but at the edges of the junctions 11, the orientation of the edge of substantially each strand 6 or 9 runs around the edge of the respective junction 11 and into the edge of the next strand 6 or 9. During the second stretch, restraint can be applied in the first stretch direction and discontinued before the material is allowed to relax in the second stretch direction. If desired, the procedure can be terminated after the first stretch, to produce a uniaxially-oriented geogrid. By using a starting material 21 which has through holes 22 and weakened zones 23, it is possible to form the geogrid of the invention from a starting material 21 having a rectangular array of through holes 22.

System and method of tetherless insufflation in colon capsule endoscopy

A system and method of wireless controlled CO2 insufflation for use in colon capsule endoscopy. The system includes a device to inflate the colon through the use of a swallowable capsule including a first compound and a second compound for generating a biocompatible chemical reaction that provides a level of insufflation to enhance visualization and to allow for magnetic locomotion within the colon. The chemical reaction achieves relevant colon insufflation (enough to enable diagnostic relevance) by producing CO2 (carbon dioxide).

The present invention relates to recombinant microorganisms comprising biosynthetic pathways and methods of using said recombinant microorganisms to produce various beneficial metabolites. In various aspects of the invention, the recombinant microorganisms may further comprise one or more modifications resulting in the reduction or elimination of 3 keto-acid (e.g., acetolactate and 2-aceto-2-hydroxybutyrate) and / or aldehyde-derived by-products. In various embodiments described herein, the recombinant microorganisms may be microorganisms of the Saccharomyces clade, Crabtree-negative yeast microorganisms, Crabtree-positive yeast microorganisms, post-WGD (whole genome duplication) yeast microorganisms, pre-WGD (whole genome duplication) yeast microorganisms, and non-fermenting yeast microorganisms.

Goal Determination Using Remotely Detected Location in Space and Magnetic Flux-Based Goal-Proximity Sensing

A location-and-event-tracking system includes radio-enabled anchors and tags on a field of play, and magnets attached to a goal (e.g., a basketball net). Tags are attached to players and to balls (“game-play objects”), and a magnetometer is embedded within the ball. The system uses the radio-enabled tags to track the position of player and the ball in space, and the system determines whether a basket (i.e., a goal) has been made using both the location of the ball in space and magnetic flux-related data received from the magnetometer. The system also determines whether the ball has gone out of bounds, and it sends a STOP message to the game-clock control system if the ball goes out of bounds or if a shot is made successfully.

Multi-point Multiple Sensor Array for Data Sensing and Processing System and Method

A method for enhancing sensor measurements includes performing measurements utilizing sensors of wireless earpieces, analyzing the measurements to determine statistical confidence in the measurements, and determining whether the measurements are accurate utilizing the statistical confidence. The measurements may be biometric measurements of a user utilizing the wireless earpieces. The measurements may be environmental measurements. A wireless earpiece may include a frame for fitting in an ear of a user, a tonic engine controlling functionality of the wireless earpiece, and a plurality of sensor performing biometric measurements of the user. The logic engine perform measurements utilizing a plurality of sensors of the wireless earpiece, analyzes the measurements to determine a statistical confidence interval of the measurements, determines whether the measurements are accurate utilizing the statistical confidence interval, and optimizes the measurements to determine a biometric reading of the user in response to determining the measurements are not accurate.

Video observation of a patient's face during a medical procedure while the patient is in a prone position

Apparatus that allows at least one feature of a patient's face to be observed while the patient is in a prone position includes a facial cushion, a video camera and a monitor. A self supporting facial cushion provides cranial support for a patient in a prone position during a medical procedure. The cushion has a frontal aperture that is dimensioned so that the facial feature of a patient wearing the facial cushion and in a prone position are visible through the at least one aperture. A portion of the facial cushion that contacts a supporting surface when the facial cushion is self supported defines a tunnel through which at least the lens of the video camera can be inserted for movement from outside the facial cushion to a position beneath the patient's face.
