Internal mixing atomizing spray nozzle assembly

A nozzle for atomizing and spraying liquid is provided. The nozzle includes a longitudinal liquid flow passageway that terminates in a liquid orifice for directing a stream of liquid along a predetermined axis. A plurality of intersecting, transverse passageways extend perpendicular to and intersect the predetermined axis. Each of the transverse passageways terminates at either end in an outlet. The transverse passageways define a first impingement surface downstream of the liquid orifice for breaking up a stream of liquid impinging thereon into a laterally spreading dispersion which disperses through the transverse passageways. An air annulus is arranged in surrounding relation to the outlets of the transverse passageways and oriented to discharge air in a downstream direction so as to strike the fluid dispersed through the outlets of the transverse passageways. An expansion chamber is arranged downstream of the transverse passageways and air annulus. The expansion chamber communicates with a nozzle discharge orifice.

Device for generating a mixture of reducing agent and air

The device is a component of a system for posttreatment of the exhaust gas of a self-igniting internal combustion engine; by means of the mixture of reducing agent and air that it generates, the action of a reduction catalytic converter is improved. The device has a mixing chamber (22), into which reducing agent, via a reducing agent supply means controlled by a metering valve (24), and air, via an air supply means, can be introduced. The mixing chamber (22) is embodied in a mixing chamber body (20), with which a valve body (26) of the metering valve (24) is connected. The mixing chamber (22) discharges, toward the metering valve (24), into a connection stub (42), and the metering valve (24) has a valve member (74), which to control the reducing-agent / air mixture supply means into the mixing chamber (22) cooperates at least indirectly with the face end (43) of the connection stub (42) as a valve seat. The valve body (26) is screwed into a bore (38) of the mixing chamber body (20). The result is a simpler design of the device, with only a few components which are simple to assemble.

Burner with high-efficiency atomization

A burner has a nozzle formed of generally concentric inner and outer pieces. The inner piece defines a fuel conduit, and the outer piece defines an annular gas conduit which tapers down towards the outlet end of the nozzle. The inner piece has a rounded edge near the outlet end. The inner piece is longitudinally translatable, within a limited range of movement, relative to the outer piece, and can be locked into a desired position. The nozzle promotes efficient mixing of fuel and air (or oxygen) outside the burner. The stream of air creates a partial vacuum in the vicinity of the outlet end, serving to draw fuel out of the fuel conduit. Longitudinal adjustment of the inner piece allows the shape of the flame to be optimized. The burner can be used with virtually any fuel that can be provided in fluid form, whether solid, liquid or gas.

Spray dry method for encapsulation of biological moieties and chemicals in polymers cross-linked by multivalent ions for controlled release applications

Microencapsulation of bioactive and chemical cargo in a stable, cross-linked polymer matrix is presented that results in small particle sizes and is easily scaled-up for industrial applications. A formulation of a salt of an acid soluble multivalent ion, an acid neutralized with a volatile base and one or more monomers that cross-link in the presence of multivalent ions is atomized into droplets. Cross-linking is achieved upon atomization where the volatile base is vaporized resulting in a reduction of the pH of the formulation and the temporal release of multivalent ions from the salt that cross-link the monomers forming a capsule. The incorporation of additional polymers or hydrophobic compounds in the formulation allows control of hydration properties of the particles to control the release of the encapsulated compounds. The operational parameters can also be controlled to affect capsule properties such as particle-size and particle-size distribution.

Method and device for separation of liquid mixtures without thermal distillation

A method and device is presented for separating liquid mixtures using ultrasonic atomization and without subjecting the mixture to heat or thermal distillation. The process of ultrasonic separation does not involve liquid heating and saves up to 75% of the energy required as compared to thermal distillation. The method involves high throughput fixed bed atomizers with a specially designed carrier gas flow for aerosolization, extraction, and transport of mist. The mist richer in the desired component is then collected and condensed by electrostatic or other de-misting means. Repeated processes can achieve high separation efficiency. The efficiency of separation can be controlled by varying the ultrasonic frequency, power, and number of arrays, liquid surface tension and interfacial tension of mixtures.
