An image correction apparatus, an image correction method and a transformation map making method are disclosed. The apparatus includes an imaging device, a memory section, a corrected image creation section and a display device. The imaging device has an optical axis inclined upward or downward with respect to a ground surface, and captures an image. The corrected image creation section transforms the captured image into a corrected image in accordance with a transformation map stored in the memory section, thereby making a correction on inclination of a display object with respect to a vertical direction. The display device displays the corrected image.

Image display apparatus comprising an internally reflecting ocular optical system

An image display apparatus which enables observation of a clear image at a wide field angle with substantially no reduction in the brightness of the observation image, and which is extremely small in size and fight in weight and hence unlikely to cause the observer to be fatigued. The image display apparatus includes an image display device and an ocular optical system for projecting an image formed by the image display device and for leading the projected image to an observer's eyeball. The ocular optical system (3) has three surfaces, and a space formed by the three surfaces is filled with a medium having a refractive index larger than 1. The three surfaces include, in the order in which light rays pass in backward ray tracing from the observer's eyeball (1) to the image display device (4), a first surface (5) which functions as both a refracting surface and an internally reflecting surface, a second surface (6) which is a reflecting surface facing the first surface (5) and decentered or tilted with respect to an observer's visual axis (2), and a third surface (7) which is a refracting surface closest to the image display device (4), so that reflection takes place three times in the path from the observer's eyeball (1) to the image display device (4).

An image display device prevents display abnormality due to the corrosion and / or disappearance of the testing electrodes and / or and the conductive film for leading lines with a simple structure. Leading lines, which are in the wiring terminal section, electrically connect internal wiring lines to a driver IC. Each of the leading line has a mounting electrode and a testing electrode. A patterned first conductive film, which is separate from the testing electrode, connects electrically the mounting electrode to the corresponding internal wiring line in the display section. A patterned connecting conductive film is formed on an insulative film to contact with the mounting and testing electrodes, thereby making electrical interconnection between the mounting and testing electrodes. The connecting conductive film is made of a material (e.g., ITO) whose corrosion resistance is greater than a material (e.g., Cr) for the testing electrode.

Planar light source and image display

A plane source of light (back light) of the type of emitting light from both surfaces featuring a good light utilization efficiency and without permitting the external light to transmit through a display device even when it is combined with display panels of the transmission type. Light is introduced from a point source of light into a light guide plate. Many deflecting patterns of a triangular shape in cross section are formed in a recessed manner in a surface (pattern surface) on the side opposite to a light-leaving surface of the light guide plate. A prism sheet forming a plurality of arcuate prisms is arranged on a position facing the pattern surface of the light guide plate. Light propagating through the light guide plate is totally reflected by the deflecting pattern and goes out from the light-leaving surface nearly perpendicularly thereto. Light propagating through the light guide plate transmits through the deflecting patterns, goes out aslant, and is bent by the prisms into a direction nearly perpendicular to the pattern surface as it transmits through the prism sheet.
