In the invention, the compression region of the shock wave is designed, and the growth region of liquid drops is divided into the supersonic speed region and the subsonic speed region, and the total length of the pipeline is effectively shortened by optimizing the length of the two parts, thereby the loss of frictional resistance caused by the interaction of the air current and the pipeline is reduced; the shape of shock wave in the compression region of the shock wave are designed as the oblique shock wave and the normal shock wave, thereby the strength of a single shock wave is weakened, the loss of the resistance of the shock wave is reduced, and the separation of boundary layers induced by the strong shock wave is avoided.

The disclosed energy absorption device is a novel combination of interaction between various components (e.g., piston head, shock tube, cylinder end, external cylinder, and adjustment mechanism) within a single shock absorber. When the components disclosed herein are considered together and designed as an interrelated assembly, the ability to incorporate such a diverse range of uses within a single device emerges. The ability to combine dashpot, square wave, progressive wave, and self-compensating damping in a single device is unprecedented, as is the ability to deliver sublinear damping force vs. input velocity performance in an adjustable device. The disclosed device allows a user to make simpler sizing calculations and decisions, and provides the user with the ability to adjust the shock absorber to a specific application, for example, with the turn of an adjustment knob.

The subvehicles may be separated from the main body in radial directions substantially perpendicular to a central axis of the main body. This may provide for smoother disengagement, with less tipping, and may provide for greater, more uniform spacing between the disengaged subvehicles.

Suspension systems must tradeoff multiple purposes including contributing to the vehicle's road holding / handling and braking for good active safety and driving pleasure as well as keeping vehicle's user(s) comfortable and reasonably well isolated from road noise, bumps, and vibrations, etc. Over the past 100 years many suspension systems have evolved but have in common the disposition of the hock absorber between the wheel and the fulcrum point of the wheel mounting to the vehicle. It would be, however, be beneficial to provide a suspension exploiting a dual-shock system wherein the two shock absorbers are in opposite states so that even under absorption of the vertical shock from the road surface there was still applied additional force for road contact to be maintained. It can also be shown to be beneficial in single-shock systems to place the shock the opposite side of the fulcrum point of the suspension system, counter to previous prior art solutions.
