Techniques are provided for handling failures of DNS (domain name system) servers to respond to DNS queries. A DNS resolver is configured to resolve domain names, and includes a time-to-live (TTL)-based cache, a negative cache, and a long term store cache. The TTL-based cache is configured to temporarily store domain names with resolved IP addresses. The negative cache is configured to store negative entries that include information indicating domain names that were failed to be resolved. The long term store cache is configured to store domain names with resolved IP address for an indefinite time period. The caches are accessed in a manner that enables fewer DNS query retries to be performed when a DNS server is non-responsive, to reduce delays and network traffic. Furthermore, the DNS resolver may reduce a number of DNS queries performed the longer the DNS server stays non-responsive.

Systems and/or methods for dynamic anomaly detection in machine sensor data

Certain example embodiments relate to techniques for detecting anomalies in streaming data. More particularly, certain example embodiments use an approach that combines both unsupervised and supervised machine learning techniques to create a shared anomaly detection model in connection with a modified k-means clustering algorithm and advantageously also enables concept drift to be taken into account. The number of clusters k need not be known in advance, and it may vary over time. Models are continually trainable as a result of the dynamic reception of data over an unknown and potentially indefinite time period, and clusters can be built incrementally and in connection with an updatable distance threshold that indicates when a new cluster is to be created. Distance thresholds also are dynamic and adjustable over time.

Sensing armature motion in high-speed solenoids

The invention relates to a technique for discerning a status of an armature of a high-speed solenoid at any time during its operational cycle. In high speed solenoids, motion of an armature does not occur until after a finite and indeterminate lapse of time after application of a driving voltage. In the present invention, a pulsed driving voltage is used to drive the solenoid. A resultant current in a coil of the solenoid exhibits discontinuities in its rate of change when the armature moves. Occurrences of the discontinuities are used to produce control signals and coordinate operation of the solenoids and other controllable events. Occurrence of these discontinuities exactly correlates with armature motion. Consequently, time lapse between application of voltage and motion of the armature becomes inconsequential in design of a control system. In other words, control and coordination of operation of high-speed solenoids can be performed without consideration of uncertainties of the time lapse. In an exemplary illustration, the invention is applied to controlling speed of a turbine generator of a type used in space vehicles. High-speed solenoids are used to control bursts of hydrogen and oxygen flow into a combustion chamber of the turbine generator. Speed control is maintained by controlling a rate and duration of the bursts.

According to the method and the simulator, problems of failure of generalization of different operating wavelengths, small quantity of optical echo channels, poor distance resolution, and indefinite time-delay etc. in the conventional target echo signal simulation technical scheme can besolved, and the method and the simulator are mainly applied to a laser imaging radar guidance weapon hardware-in-the-loop simulation system.

The first microinstruction receives as an input operand the instruction floating-point input operand and generates an intermediate result from the input operand. The second microinstruction receives as an input operand the intermediate result of the first microinstruction and generates the floating-point result of the instruction from the intermediate result. The intermediate result is the same predetermined size as the instruction floating-point input operand. The microprocessor executes the first and second microinstructions such that the commencement of their executions may have indeterminate separation in time.

Method and apparatus for releasing bus control by a device connected to the bus

In a digital bus, such as the IEEE 1394 serial bus, the procedure for sending data from a link layer IC onto the data bus is that the link layer IC requests access to the bus and then waits until the physical layer IC grants the desired access. Upon detecting the grant status, the link layer IC is free to send data onto the bus. But if in the meantime the link layer IC refrains from sending data onto the bus, the granted bus access will not be given up. As a consequence the bus is blocked for an indefinite time period because the bus access granted cannot be overwritten by the physical layer IC. According to the invention an additional timer function is implemented in the link layer IC. This 'bus grant missed' timer function controls the link layer IC in such a way that it automatically gives back the bus control to the physical layer IC after a predetermined time period has elapsed during which the link layer IC has sent no data onto the bus.

Method and apparatus for transferring data on bus to or from device to be controlled by said bus

The IEEE1394 bus communication protocol has three layers: physical layer, link layer, and transaction layer. A link layer IC implements the interface to an external application and prepares data for sending on the bus, or interprets incoming data packets from the IEEE1394 bus. A physical layer IC implements the direct electrical connection to the bus and controls many functions including arbitration for sending data on the bus. The procedure for sending data from a link layer IC onto the bus is that the link layer IC requests access to the bus and then waits until the physical layer IC grants the desired access. Upon detecting the grant status, the link layer IC is free to send data onto the bus. But if in the meantime the link layer IC refrains from sending data onto the bus, the granted bus access will not be given up.
