The invention provides an edible
sunflower breeding method of sterile, maintainer and restorer lines. The method has the advantages of light
workload and fast stability of sterile, maintainer and restorer lines. In a first year, an edible
sunflower farmer species is used as a female parent, a cenospecies is used as a male parent for hybridization, and at the same time self-breeding is carried out for the cenospecies; in a second year, an excellent sterile
single plant is separated from self-bred progenies of the cenospecies as a female parent, and an excellent
single plant which is selected from
hybrid progenies of the farmer specie and cenospecies is used as a male parent for
test cross; self-breeding is carried out for a
branch type fertile
single plant which is selected from cenospecies segregating progenies; in a third year, materials of
test cross varieties which show semi-
sterility are eliminated; at the same time, self-breeding is continuously carried out for an excellent single
plant which is selected from the
branch type fertile progenies; in a fourth year, backcross in pairs is carried out for an excellent single
plant which is selected from the sterile line and the
maintainer line whose fertilities are stable; the
branch type materials inbreed continuously; after 4-5 generations of backcross, the sterile line and the
maintainer line whose agronomic properties are stable are generated; after 4-5 generations of self-breeding of the branch type fertile single
plant, combining ability is detected, and a stable restorer line is obtained.
