Mass flow rate measuring device

A method for online-determination of at least one characteristic value of a mass flowmeter operating by the Coriolis principal and incorporating a fluid-conducting Coriolis conduit. The method includes the following steps of exciting the Coriolis conduit in a first oscillation pattern, exciting the Coriolis conduit in a second oscillation pattern, the second oscillation pattern being different from the first oscillation pattern, capturing the response of the Coriolis conduit to the excitation in the first oscillation pattern and in the second oscillation pattern and determining at least one characteristic value of the mass flowmeter by evaluating the response of the Coriolis conduit with the aid of a model in real time during operation of the mass flowmeter.

Cordless electrical appliances

A cordless electrical appliance comprises an appliance part comprising at least two functional components (T1, M1) and a base for supplying electrical power to the appliance part. A cordless electrical connector (6) makes electrical connection between the appliance part and the base part in use. Both of the functional components (T1, M1) are connected between a pair of electrical connections provided by the connector (6) and arranged such that at least one of the functional components (T1, M1) is selectively energised in response to a change in the relative polarities of the two electrical connections. A switch such as a diode (D1) may be provided between the two functional components (T1, M1), so as to switch ON or OFF the current to a functional component (T1, M1) depending on the polarity of the connections.

Variable compression ratio engine

A variable compression ratio mechanism for continuously varying the compression ratio of an internal combustion engine while minimizing the power requirement and providing internal clamping to isolate the setting mechanism from the reaction to combustion loads. The mechanism includes a setting cam (1501) actuated via an innovative torque storage system acting on an auxiliary piston (203) in the combustion chamber crown. The mechanism provides very fast and precise transient response without the use of hydraulic control. The invention desirably simplifies the control system and provides an elegant and compact solution for this purpose.

Musical instrument cradle

The present invention is addressed to a cradle for a musical instrument, which consists of a support having a figure-8 configuration including a pair of loops adapted to support the musical instrument without the use of any fastening device. The cradle also consists of a strap having a pair of ends, each of which is connected to a loop of the support. A buckle may be provided to adjust the length of the strap. In use, a musical instrument is positioned in the inventive cradle with the loops supporting the instrument. The strap is secured about a user so that the musical instrument is supported in a substantially horizontal position by the loops. Thereafter, the instrument is removed by lifted the instrument from the support.

Integrated physical activity level (i-pal) measurement and tracking in adolescents and older teenagers

Described are systems that include at least one sub-system to track, measure, monitor and reward adolescents and young adults for performing daily physical activities, which include before-school, in-school, after-school, sports and activities of daily living. The system offers adolescents the opportunity to track their integrated physical activity level (I-PAL) scores over their adolescent years. Also described are systems that include at least one sub-system that supports the four pillars of juvenile diabetes management, which include managing medications, monitoring blood glucose levels, documenting eating habits and tracking integrated physical activity levels. Another embodiment describes systems to manage childhood obesity that includes documenting eating habits, tracking integrated physical activity levels, offering educational and motivational information and managing comorbidities related to childhood obesity. Also included are embodiments that describe a system to help physical education teachers in schools to help students set goals, monitor class progress, objectively grade the students performance and provide a lifetime score that can be carried from one grade level to the next. The system accomplishes this by aggregating physical acidity data from a variety of sources. The described systems also allow adolescents and young adults to form health groups and socialize their progress in a safe environment to motivate themselves and their social peers by setting health goals.

Systems and Methods of Cell Activated, Controlled Release Delivery of Growth Factors for Tissue Repair and Regeneration

This invention provides a composition for controlled-release of polypeptide growth factors useful in tissue repair or engineering. The composition include a polypeptide growth factor covalently cross-linked to a biocompatible substrate by a transgultaminase. The cross-linking tethers the growth factor to a substrate so that it will not diffuse away from the desired site of application. It also concomitantly inactivates the growth factor. Release and reactivation of the growth factor can be achieved by endogenously produced metalloproteinase (MMPs) or exogenously provided proteases such as collagenases. Also provided are scaffolds, transplant devices, methods for using the same and methods for making the same,
